If you can, send some suggestions to this kid as to what he can do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REHOdqYkX4Y

He only puts up videos of him talking, doesn't even include audio or video, but had a copyright strike occur on one of his videos just for reviewing something.

His problem is always gonna be thumbnails. As trivial as you think that might be (and it is), I've seen channels get taken down from thumbnails before (though because they were misleading, which his aren't)

Companies (and specifically Japanese ones) still gonna use strikes for thumbnails of their content. Hell, when people were doing discussion videos as Street Fighter V was leaking, Capcom was handing out strikes left and right for people just talking about it... because the thumbnail was from the leaked footage.

More importantly, at over 100k subs, that kid should already have a YouTube rep, I'm shocked that he doesn't. Maybe he ignored the "channel consultation" emails?

People are making react videos to the Fine Bros video and are being blocked for copyrighting. This is going go get really interesting.

Was this pointed? If you join their React World cult, they will make money of ALL your video, and not just React videos that you might make. From their FAQ:

Does it cost money to join/license?
-- There are no upfront costs when you license from us. When you join React World you enter into a revenue share agreement based on actual revenue generated by your videos. There are two kinds of revenue, that which is generally YouTube adsense, and the other is more premium brand deals. If you connect your channel to React World on Youtube, your split is 80% of adsense and 70% of premium brand deals. If you are independent on YouTube or in an MCN, your split is 60% of adsense and 50% of premium brand deals.

What if I want to create non-React content on my channel? How does that work?
-- You retain full ownership and operation over your channels and as such can post non-React content any time you like. You may find that your channel does well making some React content and some of your own original programming. However, if you don’t plan to make ANY React content then we generally don’t recommend you join React World.

I wish life was fair so they'd completely fuck up their channel and lose the trust of their fanbase, and they're forced to admit they were wrong and beg the fans to forgive them. This is ridiculous

correct about everything
You know what. I'm getting off the middle ground. The Fine Bros are fucking nuts for trying to pull of this initiative.

And serves them right that they're loosing subs like crazy. They were on 14.09k subs before the announcement. Now they're at 14.07k subs.

Take a look at this live sub stat counter. http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/thefinebros/realtime

that doesn't really strike me as "losing subs like crazy."

That's not bad at all for something like this. A month from now they'll probably be at 14.1

I really want to know who the heck is actually ripping of the Fine Bros format, because theirs is so specific. Or maybe they really are just greedy jerks.

Nah they're just greedy jerk as people are starting to do their own reaction videos, for example Nintendo direct reaction or Korea boy/girls reacts.

They know that it's easy for anyone do a reaction video and they don't like the idea of sharing the pie with other people.

Yep, they are steadily losing subscribers every few seconds.

Well it's starting to look like that will happen as they are steadily loosing subscribers. I wonder how long it will take for them to backtrack.

I just don't get how this benefits youtube at all. You'd think they'd want as many videos on their site as possible generating as much revenue as possible. This initiative does the opposite of that.

edit: If every popular youtube channel decided that they owned the format they work in, there would be no other channels left to watch anymore. Setting this kind of precedent could mean the death of youtube.

You don't get to bring friends.
I wonder how long it will take for them to backtrack.

I'd say by Monday they'll backtrack. They'll probably frame it as a "sorry we got caught up in the moment" and how "ungrateful" everyone has been. Throw in the word "opportunity" again for some reason.

Maybe we should contact the moderators and suggest for them to take down any future threads about their reaction videos, or do a PSA preventing them until they reverse this. That could stop them from getting potentially thousands of views in the future, which is not much but in the grand scheme of things but at least is something.

Looks like they're gonna be down to 17.06m within 2-3 hours.

While I doubt that there will be any sort of mass exodus, at least it's a Stat they can directly notice. Given how valuable subscribers are to YouTube channels - even more than just views if I remember correctly - and how easy it is to quickly hit unsubscribe as a form of impulse protest, they are feeling a direct impact of their announcement, however small it might be.

Their biggest demographic are kids and teens. I doubt they even bother to check out all this hoopla about them. But once they see video pop up on their subscriber feed about something negative about the FineBros. They may consider unsubbing.

I'm betting they're not dumb about losing subscribers and knew it would happen. Would probably only need 10 or so channels that sign up to this to make it a slight success and make up that revenue.

Considering the Fine Bros stuff is the only reaction videos worth watching, Im okay with it.
Why? These two seem to believe that they are the inventors of "react videos",even though reaction videos have been around for decades in some form or another.Pure arrogance on their part.

You'd be surprised how many of these youtubers get delusional with the slightest sign of "fame". And now with many of them getting deals/money by other formats be it books, [dog shit] movies or [dog shit] netflix series. It's the PewDiePie effect.

I stopped following these asshats' videos ages ago; it was fun when it started with a couple of cute kids reacting to viral videos but it's gotten pretty lame pretty quick, and you know, reaction videos are worse than trash TV. Let me point out that (according to Forbes) those greedy fucks are actually millionaires (worth $8.5 million!), but that's not enough for them, they wanna make more through using their mostly kids and tweens followers, who'll most likely fall for this and start joining this "Revolutionary Entertainment" bullshit.

PewDiePie is an alright guy. Don't lump him in with these mercenary shitbags.

"Adam reacts to Eva"

"People react to Eva biting the apple"

Adam:"I can't fookin' believe it, I gave my rib for her"
God:"Wow I give you everything and this is how your repay me? You touched my goddamn apples you heathens."
Satan:"It's a tassssssty apple! I don't blame her for eating it"

14m now. Wow.

This proposition is hilarious. No one is going to revenue share a fucking reaction show with these clowns when they can make it themselves.

I don't follow him but his videos are fine..actually, among the top YT earners, The Fine bros. are probably the ones with the most worthless laziest content (reaction videos with some trivia stamps). The other "millionaires"-who I don't follow either- are video games players/commentators, comedians, a make-up artist and a musician..you know, people who actually do stuff.

If their reaction videos are 'mediocre' I'm really fucking interested in seeing what's considering good or 'great.' They're showing their true, ass-brown colors with this move and I'm critical of them for it but c'mon. Their content isn't mediocre in context of the larger 'reaction' community on youtube.

Sure, in comparison to other reaction videos I agree, their production value is great. But the reactions from most people on the show are so fake and so forced. It's as if the Fine Bros hired teen actors or teen models or something and got them on contract. And that's what makes them mediocre and not above average.

And why are you so invested in that I called them 'mediocre'?

That's exactly what they did.

Most of the kids they get to do the show have their own youtube channels and they do their own thing(IE Skits or...whatever.)

I don't think I'm quite harping on the word mediocre. I just thought mediocre reaction video is a weird angle of attack given that most reaction videos (I'm talking 99%) are hot garbage. I think we agree that context is fairly important here. Quality content? Maybe not. Quality content in comparison with the general 'reaction vid' landscape? Clearly.

The licensing premise might have had some appeal if the premise of their content didn't consist of entirely ripping off other people's content.

I do agree that a lot of reaction videos are dumpster fire but I found h3h3 and I think their reaction videos are great. Here's an example.
