Makes sense to me.

Niflheim tracks Luna's location to Altissia. They take over the city and arrest her. Something happens that makes her guardian, Gentiana, go berserk. She turns into her Leviathan form and destroys everything.
In Mortal Kombat, this would be considered beastiality.

I assumed those four in the center were the founders of the four nations, given that the painting seems to portray some sort of historical legend or creation myth. The guy summoning the swords would be the first king of Lucis, who passed that ability on through his line.

I wonder, if that power was indeed given to the Caelum line by the goddess, were the other three also given similar powers? Would tie in with the idea that Lucis had the "last remaining crystal," or whatever it was in Versus. The other nations have sacrificed or otherwise lost their own power/crystal.

The four in the center very much symbolize Noctis and co. It may not be them but it is actually pretty clear when you look at it. It may not be them in present day but like artsi said that it is a prophetic painting.

The line of kings are those Knights most likely who could be interpretated as Knights of the Round or the line or both. (Would love to see it be both)

Probably because Ignis
turns on them at some point but they take him back into the crew

Yep. Look at my other posts. I am speculating that as well.

Maybe so, but it really does seem to portray something that happened in the past, and seems deliberately drawn to evoke renaissance-era religious art. I'm just speculating, but there's definitely a story being told by the artwork, something that has an ending – in other words, something that has already happened.

It could be both. Perhaps there's some significance in the four nations corresponding to the four main characters. Maybe their journey will be a reflection of the founding of nations (as much as I feel that whole trope has been beaten to death).

I digress. I'm excited to learn more about the world; hopefully the March reveal will shed some light on what the artwork means.

Was thinking perhaps Nomura might show at the event for one of these reason:

-To credit his work as character designer or scenario concept
-Have a feeling they might bundle a FF7R demo with the game, if that did happen it would be a nice touch to have Nomura announce it.

Would be a nice dream anyway...

There are (were) five nations with crystals :p

Lucis, Niflheim, Solheim, Tenebrae, Accordo

I thought Tenebrae was in Niflheim? Maybe I'm remembering wrong...

The four great nations that originally received protection from the crystals are Lucis, Tenebrae, Solheim and Accordo – and together with Niflheim and several other cities and villages – make up the vast world of FFXV. Lucis is based on a modern day Tokyo while Accordo – the new city seen in the trailer – is modeled after Venice.

If this still holds true, then there were four originally. Maybe Niflheim is more recent? Considering it's conquering the others, it's obviously upsetting the status quo.

A FF7R demo with FF XV would be pretty huge. Just huge megaton right there. It would shoot XV sales even higher than what they already would be.

I think Solheim is the only one that they haven't touched upon at all.

For Lucis and Accordo we have see the capitals. With Nifelheim we have seen enough characters and imagery to kind of get a general idea about it.Tenebrae, they have shown that piece of concept art.

I wonder how much of a role that kingdom will have in the game. (if any?).

Hope it's still in! Mystery is always nice.

Well on the ATR and at TGS they keep having Main Characer Designer: Tetsuya Nomura in the corner in pretty plain sight. So it's not like they are hiding it.

I think it would be cool for him to show up at the March event.

EDIT: Ah yeah, I misunderstood. You meant the dev team, not Niflheim, lol.

I thought Tenebrae was in Niflheim? Maybe I'm remembering wrong...

Luna is from Tenebrae, when FFXV happens Niflheim has occupied it (like all the other nations) and taken the crystal. Dawn trailer hints that it happened when Luna was a young girl, but not confirmed.

It's interesting that we haven't seen anything from Tenebrae or Solheim yet, but it's good to have some surprises.

Except for this, SAF probably stands for Solheim Air Force which Niflheim is using for their war effort.

Oh, good catch!

Yeah Kagari would be awesome, but you got folks like Ishida, Med, M_Night, a lot of cool people who can do it or at least contribute to help Lady K.

Sounds like Bruce and Kagari have got it covered. I'm sure they will both create something great as per usual.

I would like to suggest a small section with some member stories. Perhaps talking about significant milestones in their lives from when the game was announced in 2006 to now. 10 years is a long time.

With a strong marketing campaign, solid reviews and a FF7 Remake demo, the FF community would at large would struggle to ignore the game.

I think they would consider it for that reason.

that last bit would be cool. With stories of us that have been waiting for this game forever.

I still can't believe it will come out this year :)

Ten years is 1/3 of my life M_Night. Think about that!

I'm currently 21... So Versus was announced when I was 11?! Are you freaking serious? It's been THAT long? 10 years?!

We should have a section for listing how old we were versus (heh) how old we will be.

That alone is a crazy read.

Haha, I was 10 when Versus XIII was originally announced. It was actually why I got into Final Fantasy so long ago. :) I'll be 20 before it releases.

But yeah, crazy how long it's been. I'm just glad XV will be out this year, though. I wanna see how Noctis' story will unfold.

Dayum! I won't think about it...because thinking about it is freaking me out!

16>26 here.

From my early teens to adulthood I've been following the game with many of you. Back when I was a young luker and reading yours and duckroll translated Famitsu interviews on a different forum, haha. Eventually lead me to GAF!

Caraaazay. It's all come full circle. ;_;

Wow, we got similar stories. I'm 21 and I'm really just now getting into Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy Type-O HD is the first ever FF game I ever played and that was on my PS4. My second FF is Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD on my PS4. Third is Final Fantasy 7 on my Vita. 4th is Final Fantasy 8 on my Vita. I just recently jumped in FF and I can easily see why the series is huge.

When I was younger, I didn't really know who developers were. But that all changed in high school when I jumped online for gaming news.

It boggles my mind that this will be the first Final Fantasy game for some kids out there... Nomura died for our sins and many won't know this.

Go play IV and VI

Well in the other thread we have proof that him and Tabata just absorbed one another

:) I'm glad you're enjoying the series so far. Just curious, but have you played Episode Duscae? If you haven't yet, I'd recommend it.

Anyways, I've been gaming since I was 3/4 years old due to my older brother. Though, I was never allowed to play the PS1 as a child since he was always afraid that I would break or lose the discs, haha.

It wasn't until 2004/2005 when I got into Sony. I was given a PS2 and played Kingdom Hearts a lot. So, I was familiar with the Final Fantasy characters, but I was never interested in the games until Versus XIII was originally announced.

I got into the series a few months afterwards. Started with my brother's copy of VII, and have loved the series ever since. :)

Brace yourselves. 10 years ago I was.... 10 years younger than I am now! That means 120 months, 3,650 days, 87600 hours, over 5 million minutes, and about 300 million seconds. Which, incidentally, if seconds were pennies, would be enough to get to the moon and back... XV times! (But of course not nearly enough to get to the nearest star, make of that what you will).

I don't mean to be a spoil sport. Sharing these stories is a nice way for a community to mark the changes in their lives. But I just don't think they add much to the discussion of the game (in the OP of an OT anyway).

A Noctis time lapse superimposed over the dev timeline would be far more illustrative of the now absurd amount of time this game has been worked on (I guess I'd make a grudging exception for a wmlk ultrasound pic circa 2006).

I guess this is how people who played the original Final Fantasy on the NES must feel about kids who played Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation as their first.

Seriously though, in the last 10 years since Versus XIII's original reveal, you would think that people who were interested in it would have at least ONE Final Fantasy game between 2006 and 2016.

That boggles my mind.

Altus just needs to casually reveal the P5 release date a few days before if they might release around the same time.

Atlus' inability to put out P5 in the last 8 years since P4 is almost as baffling. Winter 2014, delayed to Summer 2015, now it's 2016. P4 was released July 2008 for Japan and December 2008 in NA. It will be 8 years in July.

P4's Scooby Doo gang was somewhat milked but the cast is just so goat people didn't mind.

P4 was milked to death just like FFVII. P5 will probably be milked as well.

I hope Final Fantasy XV is just one game. They say it will be, but part of me still doesn't trust SE. Then again, FFVII:Remake will be the multi-part game series. I can't even imagine them finishing all of FFVII: Remake's episodes during this console cycle. Unless this is going to be a really long console cycle.

I really want to know what Ito has been doing in the cellar SE keeps him in.

Probably one of the most influential and important figures in Square. It's a shame that we don't know what he is up to these days.

I hope he is working on Final Fantasy XVI's Battle System. One can dream.

10 years ago I was... 8. I started following this game after it was reintroduced as Final Fantasy 15, so I don't know the suffering that you all have been through.

Same. I really hope we see XVI presented to us by E3 2017. I can dream that it is this E3 but I think it will be all about XV and if we see XVI the soonest would probably be TGS

My guess would be announced at E3 2017 releasing late 2018 if they don't have any troubles in development.
