Far Cry Primal uses the same map (heavily updated) as Far Cry 4.

Alright, it was so expensive that they fired the production staff because of the huge expense.

That better? Making everything from scratch is expensive, and AAA production is insanely expensive as it is. The more asset reuse, the more games we get in general.

No it's not better because we don't even know what really happened between Kojima and Konami, it is not confirmed that Kojima and his team got fired.

Does Primal have like seven or eight missions as a 3-4 hour campaign? If not, I'm wondering why people keep comparing it to Blood Dragon.

Blood Dragon felt great to me and the main missions were designed very well with an old shooter feel to them. Wish they would focus more on that aspect and make the open part smaller.

Does primal have missions like that?

I imagine that the people who bought this game won't care. This is the kind of thing expected from this game. So it's kind of a nonissue.

And us Ubisoft critics can just sit there with a satisfied and smug look on our face.

Feels good, man.

I haven't noticed any similar mapping at all. The world is much more dense in detail and design so it is pretty easy to miss.

Played FC4, playing Primal now, never noticed.
So it doesn't bother me. The game is excellent, map filled with a lot of content and plenty to do.

Ok, can someone who has far cry 4 go to a specific spot on the map shown and take a screenshot? (don't have my copy on hand)

I'll go to the same spot, take a screenshot and we will see just how close they really are.

And us who are actually playing the game and know better can do the same. Feels good, man.

I'd say it has about 75% of the "content" of Far Cry 4. Which is plenty. These games always have too much to do, bloated open world collectathons and all.

Is the game good?
Yes. It could very easily be many people's favorite game in the series.

There's been a rumor going around that Primal was originally supposed to be 4's BD equivalent, but Ubi needed another $60 game for the year since AC isn't coming out. Don't know the amount of truth to it.

Fun game and definitely worth the $60 FWIW.

I just assumed the location was the same? Although after thousands and thousands of years, granted, no location is really 'the same'.

Primal is Central Europe, 4 is the Himalayas.

It's definitely not light on content, but the campaign to be fair is pretty bare bones. That can be seen as a positive or negative depending on who you ask.

Many open world games follow that formula because there are a shit load more things to do. Fortunately in this game, most of that stuff ties in with what is going on and trying to survive in the stone age rather well. So you are kind of motivated to hunt, gather, craft and do side missions that help grow the tribe and such. It just works.

"Far Cry Primal uses a heavily modified version of the map in Far Cry 4."

Yeah, I think this is kind of pointless altogether. They share some features. But are really not alike in any meaningful way.

People gotta have something to get upset about though, so have at it.

Do you really need to go so deep to find critics and feel intelligent ? Don't you think buyers noticed the similarities with FC4, like the fucking obvious reuse of animations ?

Being satisfied for that, that's to be expected for haters, but still sad.

Doesn't Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 share some animations and sounds?

There's being lazy and then there's being smart and efficient. You don't have to re-invent everything all the time.

That time you save some place can help you polish somewhere else.

I'm pretty sure they had to remake the animations and therefore models because the animations were more complicated.

More like theories than actual sourced rumors. And FC4 did receive its own expansion, so Primal was probably a full price spin-off from the beginning.

They used the height map. The world is extremely different, as is the game itself. Not to mention how much nicer it looks and runs as well.

Yep it feels different , find the game so much better than FC4 , the setting is good and the sense of always be on danger well done. Maybe just a little easy , I am playing on the hardest difficulty and do not have trouble advancing on the game

If no one saw the minimap, this never, ever would have been noticed. It's not lazy (this word should be bannable considering how often it gets thrown around), and not a copy/paste job.

I have the 40 hours and the platinum in FC4 and 17 hours and 90% trophies in Primal and would have never guessed the maps were the same. Any complaints about this seem purely for the sake of argument, I'd say.

That said, there are some chunks of Primal I'd call straight up lazy. Dumping the skill tree from 4 in, almost verbatim, is a good example. Although not quite lazy, almost the entirety of the game has a forgettable sameness as though the missions and objectives are procedurely generated.

I'm struggling to understand how it's even possible that nobody noticed this until now. And I'm not just saying that. Someone more knowledgeable than I please explain the magic fuckery Ubisoft is employing to pull that off, especially since the rivers/lakes and mountains appear to be in the exact same place, and AFAIK a bunch of assets are being reused for this game.

As someone who platinumed FC4, consequently dumping a lot of hours into it, will I really not notice?

This thread has been laughably predictable. People who have no interest in the game with drive by shit posts while posters who have actually played Primal are left to explain that it is in fact for more than a "FC 4.5".

Now that you are aware of this and actively paying attention to it, I'd say there's a 1% chance. It just looks incredibly different.

I've been to several places now that featured this game, yet I still have no idea what this game actually looks like. I can truly understand Ubisoft being masters of the Art of Ninja. It stands to reason this game is a master of disguise. It would answer everything.

They made the whole game in less than a year. They had to cut corners somewhere.

Also, it's not like you really recognize the spots when in game.
