Aonuma on Zelda Wii U: "I think we’ll be able to make ‘something new’ like OoT was."

Can't wait for the true ending DLC after the base game ending makes Link choose between Din, Farore and Nayru, despite having no effect on the outcome of the story!

I have zero doubts or fears about this game. But I hope to God they don't delay it again. They did say again this year that it would really release this year, but nothing is certain until it's actually here.

If NX is out this year then the game will be out this year too, there's no way they don't make it a launch title
Think of all the people who are waiting for this zelda to release just to buy a Wii U. You could have them buy an NX instead.

he "thinks"? aren't they at a development stage where they should already know if they can or not?
That's beyond their control, as it's something that the audience will decide, unlike what AAA PR tries to tell us.

If he wasn't sure that they've deviated from OOT enough he wouldn't habe stated it.

Pls don't be a ubisoft tower climbing check list game :(( my worst fear from new Zelda.

Also if expecting the game to release this year and he's still writing dialog. Um no voice acting prolly.

Might just be a case of Poe's law but I think some people are taking his food analogy a little too literally. I don't think he's implying that the game will be more western in style, he's just phrasing his analogy in a way that makes sense from from a Japanese perspective (Japanese food = same old, every day comfort food, Western food = different from the normal). I mean this is EPD, there's no way this game won't be Japanese as fuck.

Well if the game feels like Zelda game it's gonna be great no matter what. One of the best series in gaming history and usually everything they touch turns to gold. After just playing Wind Waker HD and starting Twilight princess HD I'm definitely ready for a new Zelda game this year.

Guys, this is exactly what the series needs. It needs to go back to the first game and re-envision those conventions for modern gaming. Zelda has always been more popular in the west, and a lot of western games take inspiration from the original LoZ. They're returning to their roots. Ocarina of Time is legendary, but I agree that it's time the series moved towards something else since Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword have taken Ocarina's formula and expanded on it in different ways.

He's giving us a massive world this time. It will have the charm and polish of a Zelda game and be open world which seems too good to be true. It will play with the tightness of an eastern game in the style of a western game with the art of an eastern game with the freedom of a western game.

My hype is reaching critical mass. And while Zelda has always had puzzles, the first two games had less "puzzles" and more "secrets" if you k ow what I mean. If he is hinting that this game will focus more on combat I am all for it. Zelda has perfected what it used to be in the early 3D era, and it's time to shake things up. This game could be game of the decade material if done properly, and it could bring Zelda back to the mainstream in a scale that it hasn't been outside of memes for some time now.

I think he is refering to open world for the western style.
Also the new like OOT was has something to do with the elektric energy.
He is also refering about that to zelda TP...
Maybe you can change some of the worlds/landscapes/... using those energy.

Maturity, bitches.

Well he can't know how people will react to it. He obviously thinks it's new but will the general population think the same? Can anyone really guess how people will respond to a new Zelda game, they are one of the most divisive games out there?

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
It feels like they've gone to the OoT well way more than four times the past 20 years, I guess because that's how stale it's become.

GOOD. I've gotten really tired of the formula after 20 years, mostly with the 3D Zeldas. I hope it shakes up enough.

I believe this game was complete last year (complete as in good enough to be released on wii u).

they then pulled it back to make it a cross gen release which in turn game them a year to improve on an already complete game.

this is barely new news, he already said yeard ago, skyrim was a huge inspiration and they wanted to do something based on that.

basically what he is saying is, we dont have anything new to update but we are still working on the game.

The upgrade system in SS was taken straight out of western games and it was a great addition (you had a reason to fight enemies that goes beyond rupees).

I hope they won't include some silly EXP system or something, but I trust the Zelda team to make a great game

I think it could have been released but it would have been a stretch. I also have a feeling the See U version might not be 1080p as the NX may have allowed for them not to compromise on their initial vision.

Like OOT's impact? Not a chance. Unless the next Zelda (after U of course) heavily uses cutting edge technology like all motion VR or whatever, there's no chance at all.

There better still be a lot of puzzles. That's my jam.

I'd rather have good puzzles than a lot of them. I'm kinda tired of the "here are switches" or "incinerate these pillars" kind of tedious stuff.

Make it like a sort of A Link Between Worlds in 3D and I'll be your sexual slave for life, Aounuma san.

Also, really curious about the "blue energy" that seems very important in the game.

My hope for this more open world zelda is that they don't leave out some of the best parts of an open world game. Yes, it's 'open world' because you can explore more freely in a world that is bigger and feels more connected and real than in older styles, but they tend to have a lot more interaction with the world as well, such as being able to add items found in the world to your inventory and use them for crafting or trading, things like that.

Will it only be open world in terms of how you traverse, or will it have more advanced things such as crafting? I can't wait to find out

Sounds like he's taking some more western influence than we thought. Wonder which ones. Already seen link w/ a larger sword, which could imply more western rpg elements, like finding various weapons. Will be really refreshing to play something brand new again. Can't wait. Media blackout, here I come.

Ah fuck no, no item rental/buying

I don't think that'll be the thing that crosses over. If anything, it'll be the ability to tackle dungeons in more than one order. Ocarina let you do a few out of order, as did ALttP and Zelda 1. Just do something like the ice cave, which is a mini dungeon with no item requirement to enter that unlocks an item that you need to enter another dungeon. Makes every dungeon roughly 1.5 dungeons and lets you tackle them in any order, as long as you find the corresponding mini dungeon. That's another possible solution to tackling in any order without having to rent.

Any order at all, however, means no difficulty progression and locks dungeons to using only 1 item, which is a problem. A better solution might be dungeon 'clusters' where you can only do 2 or 3 at a time before moving on to the next 2 or 3. This way cluster 2 assumes you have all items from cluster 1 and can as a whole be more difficult than cluster 1. Same with cluster 3, which knows you have all items from clusters 1-2

That's what I want to hear. I like the older games but it's been feeling like it needs a change up to formula for the main ganes. ALBW was quite the surprise so more changes like that will be cool to see on such a big scale.
