I'm still holding out hope for more Star Fox amiibo... Slippy, Peppy, General Pepper, the Star Wolf guys, Arwing, and Landmaster amiibo please?

Are those medals Star Fox's version of NSMB Star Coins?

HHHHHHNNNG! First time I actually consider the possible existence of a Peppy amiibo. I want one now. Ironically. Or maybe not.

I've tried and tried, I just can't see any way that this is a good thing.

With second screen, you can aim out of TV bounds and shoot previously unreachable enemies. Most of boss fights, from the look of it, were designed around the possibility to fly in one direction while keeping an eye on what's on your tail.

To me, it seems like Nintendo wanted to give Star Fox its The Force Awakens equivalent. Something that's heavily based on a previous installment as a way to get the series back on track after years of middling/mediocre/bad installments.

That's a good way to put it actually.

A SFZ thread that isn't yet full of doubt and dislike. Will wonders never cease.

Well...check some posts below you for doubts 😏

The game is looking decent and I can't wait to see more playthroughs from streamers so we can definitely see how the controls translate to the average gamer.

In Star Fox 64 and Assault, medals were obtained by scoring a certain number of points and not letting a wingman die. To me, this screen either indicates there's way more consecutive stages per planet than we thought, or that there are now multiple layer of medals for a single stage.

It's unfortunate for me that it's Wii U only. I never could justify buying one. Looks really good, too. I mean, anyone who likes Star Fox pretty much just wants more Star Fox 64.

Saw a Falco amiibo for £5 while out today, now I'd probably have ignored it but suddenly the Black Arwing mode came to mind and then minutes later I realised that I'd fallen into their dastardly trap as I parted with a fiver.

Hmmmmm, interesting. I would welcome if medals were some sort of side objectives and you can play through the level without worrying about them if you want to, or decide to collect them and have the difficulty raised by it (kinda like the Star Coins, :p)

Yas!!! This looks amazing. So glad they took time to update the graphics a bit. Will be a while until I get to play it, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Really hope this does well

The medals imply like an achievement system

Or maybe a timing system like the one in Pilotwings Resort?

Either way, it will quench Miyamoto's obsession with re-playability nowadays to make the game last longer for some.

Just look at Steeldiver for example.

I like the risk/reward amiibo functionality. I would love amiibo become the default "skulls" for every Nintendo game.

It's not so different from what Nintendo always does imo. New Mario, Zelda, Mariokart always have a lot of elements from previous entries.

On the Nintendo site, only Fox is listed as compatible.

Fox gives you the old-school graphics and sounds, right?

Only applies to the Arwing. When the Fox amiibo is used, you get the Arwing models used in the original SNES StarFox game. Unsure if the old sound effects are used, but it wouldn't surprise me if they are as well to really sell the authenticity.

As one unsure about the game, I have to admit that is a rather neat throwback.

Think its kinda funny they went from flying under the rock formations to turning into a chicken to press a button

Im guessing the logic was the hard path should be for those who know how to turn into a chicken? I dunno.. pretty uncreative

You need to have access to the chicken walker in order to access this path, You cannot do this on a fresh save. Hence the hard path only being accessible on a second playthrough of Corneria. In this video, he finished the game once already.

I think I can live without the Fox enhancements, but the Falco seems to alter gameplay, so I will get that...

Just to double-check. If I bought the Falco amiibo at a Best Buy store, I'd still get the code for Mario vs. DK early access, right?

I don't know why I keep looking at star fox shit, I get drawn in to every damn thread though and continue to see 0 things that interest me

I hope fans of star fox are very happy with this one though. They are long time sufferers

what the fuck is this?

popgaf is a disease that you cannot treat or contain

Now that I've actually watched the video, your hunch was corrects. The medals are NSMB Star Coin-style pickup, you can view the reviewer pick up one here

Really curious if we can stack falco w/ glass canon, like ganondorf amiibo, or if they're one and the same. I'd like to imagine there's a mode where you can double lock on, double/triple damage, but you die in one hit.

Wow this turned me around completely for the game. VERY excited now, preordered it 10 minutes in the video.

See Nintendo, streamers are good for you!

Bit of a shame tbh. Would've much preferred set tasks to complete in the missions

Hopefully some of the coins are hidden behind stuff that would normally be considered a 'task,' like killing a certain enemy in a certain amount of time or taking an alternate path, that kind of thing.

This keeps looking better and better. I can't wait to play it! It definitely looks faster than the last video that I watched. Going for all the medals is going to be awesome. Only three weeks to go!

Wait, all the voices come out of the Gamepad?
But I play my Wii U with a headset connected to my TV and the gamepad audio muted (since I can't really hear it anyway) >_<

The bit I linked to shows that actually: he gets the medal by opening the alternate path.

Still, I hope there are score-based rewards as well.

Sorry, didn't watch the clip, I'm avoiding as much footage of the game as possible.

I'm sure certain enemies spawn at certain kills or something and killing those enemies drops a coin. Nintendo has done similar stuff before.

Wait, all the voices come out of the Gamepad?

Hopefully it's a setting ;_;

There may be an option to change it.

Damn I cannot wait for this game.
