Three in April - Dark Goals III

The challenge is to finish three or more games a month.

I find that having this goal can be a good reminder to pick up some old saves, and motivation to continue games through the occasional frustrating times. Some months can be harder than others, and different people have different circumstances, but three can often be an achievable goal to push for.

What counts as finishing a game can sometimes be fuzzy, so you can use your own judgement. There aren't any hard rules.

Please post your goals for the month, and please share your triumphs and setbacks and impressions of the games you play as the month goes by.

How Long to Beat is a big help, as a guide to how much longer a game will take.

Backloggery can be used to keep track of the games you have and haven't finished, to prevent a game from falling through the cracks.
Does anyone have other tools they use?

52 Games. 1 Year. 2016. is a thread for if you're looking for a bigger challenge.

Good luck to everyone chipping away at their backlog. :)

I thought it would be difficult for me to reach 3 this month, but I have so far finished 5:
The Book of Unwritten Tales 1: Finished on the 10th. I bought the first game and a side-story called Critter Chronicles ages ago, but before recently I hadn't played far into it. The sequel being on sale on PS4 motivated me to play through the series. Puzzles make sense. There were some bugs and one was game-breaking but I had a save file from not far back. The ending chapter started with an exciting premise but that chapter was surprisingly short.
Ratchet & Clank: The new one, finished April 22nd. I was disappointed by some of the story changes, and don't care about the new ally characters. Maybe the controls didn't quite play as well as most of the other games in the series. A lot of people really like it but it didn't click for me as much as the other games.
The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles: Finished on the 23rd. Well, it reproducibly crashes when loading in the end credits which some other people also encountered. The story got some emotion to it that I cared about but there were more puzzles which weren't so logical, which was unfortunate.
Puzzle Agent 2: I played through it from beginning to end on April 25th. The puzzles were overall not very good. Many were too easy or not fun.
King's Quest: Chapter 3: Finished on the 27th. It has good characterisation. The structure of the chapter was more a series of mini-games than before, which was disappointing at times but the good character writing helped them.

Have a pool of games I want to finish this month. Don't think I'll get all done but after a rather slow last month, I hope I can get at least four this month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Wii U)
Nier (Xbox 360)
Final Fantasy XIII (PC)
Ryse (PC)
King's Quest (PC)
Steins;gate (Vita)

Dark Souls III will probably put my plans on hold but I'm somehow optimistic.

This month the plan is:

Hard West (PC) – have finished the first chapter but have a lot left (and DLC) to do.

Lego Jurassic Park (PS4) – just need to finish the third film and Jurassic World, then I'm done.

Boot Hill Heroes (PC) – have got it ready, just waiting for a decent controller to arrive next week.

Link's Awakening (3DS) – have done a little but want to get it beat before starting Super Metroid.

Sold a huge amount of games last month so my backlog is well under control for the time being...and then I look at Steam.

I've only got three games I want to even play this month:
  • Day of the Tentacle Remastered
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC
  • Ratchet & Clank

Honestly, if I can finish TitS SC and R&C this month, I'll be happy.

Just finished Talos principle. So that's one.
Bastion
Res evil 6
Ratchet and clank.

Will try and do dark souls 3 too but I like to take my time on them.

Want to complete at least three from this list:

Life is Strange

Quantum Break

Killer Instinct Season One

Dark Souls

Mad Max

Planning for:

Quantum Break
Stories: The Path of Destinies
DiRT Rally
Tembo: The Badass Elephant
Letter Quest Remastered
Riptide GP2
Ratchet & Clank
Pokken Tournament
Torchlight II

Already beat one

I can get down with this:

April will likely see an end to

DA:I (just picked this back up after playing 50 hours at launch and dropping it)
DaS III
DKC:TF

Already finished one title left over from March today:

Sleeping Dogs: Rather enjoyed that. The storytelling seemed a shade better than most GTA-likes, in that it actually felt possible to follow the plot - a good few games in that genre end up having too many discrete plot threads and characters vanish for vast tracts of time (I commented on this a bit back when I played The Lost And Damned a while back). Sleeping Dogs feels like it averts this; other than a few of the lesser crew members I had a pretty clear idea who was who, what their goals were, and whose side they were on; I don't think there was any point where I was interacting with someone in a mission and struggling to remember who the heck they actually were again. Despite all that praise, though, I do have to mention the ridiculously variable framerate for the Definitive Edition. It's not that it's a consistently bad framerate - it runs some detailed scenes very well - but then you'll get a random cutscene that chugs like crazy and doesn't even look particularly complex! That moaning aside, I did enjoy it a lot. I'm not going to cross it out just yet; I've also beaten Nightmare in North Point, but I'm going to formally cross it off when I've done Year of the Dragon.
Zelda: Oracle of Seasons: I'm in the last dungeon. Ought to finish it soon. Dunno if I want to go straight into Ages (which I haven't played before) or take a gap.
Quantum Break: Looking forward to this, although may not play it immediately depending on if I want to finish off.... whatever I choose to play next
Whatever I Choose To Play Next: I 'unno. Maybe FFX2. Maybe something shorter (I'm about due to getting around to Penny Arcade Adventures Ep3, I think), Maybe Hyper Light Drifter, since I did Kickstart it.. Oh, and Lego City Undercover is next up on my Lego Series Playthrough, and is imminently going to be released as a Select, so there's that.

PC
Life Is Strange - I've already beaten the first 2 episodes so finishing the last 3 should be easy

Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone - I enjoyed the main story a lot and am looking forward to giving this a go

Wii U/Wii
Silent Hill Shattered Memories - I'm a few hours into it and hoping to finish it off this month

I failed March.

April Redemption:

Twilight Princess HD - Currently on my way to the sky temple
Hyrule Warriors Legends - Working through Legends mode, just hit Linkle's second story mission.
Resident Evil 6 - At the end of Chapter 2 on Leon's campaign. Hoping I can grind everyone's story out by month's end.

Two last month.

Deadly Premonition
Lara Croft Go
-undecided-

LC Go is likely done by tonight which is a good way to kick off April.

I'm making a big move, but hopefully I can nail out:

  • The Division (story mission completion is where I'll draw that line)
  • Resident Evil 6
  • Resident Evil Revelations 2

It's doubtful that anything else will enter the picture for possible completion.

Deadly Premonition
Lara Croft Go
-undecided-

Lara Croft Go is done. Fully. I wonder what game was the mobile game of the year 2015. I sure hope this one was in the top 5. Mobile gaming done right. Easy puzzles first. Then you put in some decent effort in the later chapters. By the time you are in the final chapter your brain is getting a real workout.

My backlog's sort of overwhelming so I think participating in these challenges should be helpful ~

I'd like to beat

-They Bleed Pixels (steam)
-DMC: Devil May Cry (ps3)
-Metal Gear Solid (ps1)

by the end of april ~

Still working on S-ranking and doing all the mission tasks for Metal Gear Solid V but hopefully I can make some sort of progress on my backlog this month.

[WiiU]The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD - in progress
[3DS]Project X Zone 2 - in progress
[3DS]Japanese Rail Sim 3D: Journey in Suburbs #1 - in progress

Last month I finished Assault Android Cactus, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Tales from the Borderlands (beat it April 1st but to be fair I finished most of it in March)

This month I'm aiming for:
Yoshi's Woolly World
Ratchet & Clank
Undecided on a third

Quantum break: at the last act, should be done today or tomorrow

Dark souls 3: i beat scholar of the first sin in about 20 days or so, should be able to beat 3 in that time as well. It took me quite a bit to beat bloodborne however, because I was splitting my time between that, fallout 4, and final fantasy 7

Ratchet and clank: I am anticipating it to take me about a week to beat it, the. Another week to get the platinum.

Dead space: Started replaying it on bc for the first time since 2009, and fuuuuck that game still really holds up.

I beat the game in one night when it came out so that shouldn't be a issue.

Quantum Break (if I can get it cheap enough on PC)

Dark Souls 3

Hitman: Episode 2

Steins;Gate

I was going to start Persona 4, but I may have to delay that until June (May is a busy month).

My list for the month is:

Quantum Break (Xbox One)
Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (PS4)

And, time permitting:

Fallout 4 (PS4)

Two Worlds 2 (X360)
Banjo-Kazooie (XBLA)
Demon's Souls (PS3)

I'll probably buy Destiny: TTK Legendary Edition, and MLB The Show 2016.

Finished:
Bully (PS4) After all these years, I finally got to play it and it was great, put me in the Bully 2 hype train.

Planing to Complete:
Ratchet and Clank (PS4)
Uncharted 3 - Crushing (PS4)
Steins Gate (PSV)
Fire Emblem Birthright (3DS)
999 (DS)
Pretty sure I'm not going to finish DS3 on April but I'll try (PS4)

March was pretty productive, now for this month at least three of the following, DSIII will take most of my gaming time though:

  • Nino no Kuni (PS3) [Pending from March]
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (X360) [Pending from March]
    _______________
  • Dark Souls III (PC) - Top priority!
  • The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PC)
  • Metal Gear Solid (PS3)
  • El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (X360)
  • DOOM 3: BFG Ed. (X360)

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Wii U)
Nier (Xbox 360)
Final Fantasy XIII (PC)
Ryse (PC)
King's Quest: A Knight to remember (PC)
Steins;gate (Vita)

Second one down. Currently playing King's Quest. Hope I can finish it before Dark Souls 3. And I hope that I can squeeze Steins;gate into April.

Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Majora's Mask 3DS
Dark Souls 3
Radiant Historia
Fire Emblem Birthright

I can't decide between Ocarina of Time -> Majora's Mask (3DS version) run through or Chrono Trigger -> Chrono Cross run

Point is I have never really played Majora's Mask or Chrono Cross so I really want to play both. I know people tend to either love or hate Chrono Cross, but from what I've seen the story seemed pretty cool, I dunno

I finished up Twilight Princess HD and will beat Quantum Break in the next couple of days.

I have play throughs of Salt & Sanctuary and Chrono Trigger going currently, along with SFV for MP. Have Dark Souls 3 bought on PSN as well.

So I should hit 3, unless DS3 eats up all my gaming time and I don't finish it this month.

Afraid I can't commit. Finals upcoming so any time I do have for gaming will be strictly assigned to DS3 and Destiny (post-update).

Started slow finishing only one game in January but did better in February and March. April depends on if I play my backlog or add to it with another game after Quantum Break. LOL.

OVERALL for 2016: 5/9 (56%)

RECAP from MARCH - 2/3 (67%)

1 - Far Cry Primal / PS4
Completed 100% in just over 80 hours. Excellent 9/10 game in my opinion.

2 - Tom Clancy's The Division / PS4
Completed 100% in over 100 hours playing solo. Back to back 9/10 games for me personally.

APRIL

1 - Quantum Break / Xbox One
Purchased on release day and currently at the start of Act 5. Will finish within the next few days. Good game but ends my streak of 9/10 games at two.

2 - Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India / PS4
Purchased on release day and still haven't played it. With April being slow once I finish Quantum Break, I'll most likely try to decrease my backlog of games which is currently at three while waiting for Uncharted 4.

3 - Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia / PS4
Same as above.

Currently going through my back log of games to complete, before i purchase dark souls 3. Finished about 20% of my backlog so far but starting work in a couple of days is going to hinder my process

But im going with

Tearaway
Back to the Future Game
Persona dancing all night
Ghostbusters The Videogame.

After poor reviews I am very impressed. Ryse is a very solid game. Besides Roman fighter in ancient times? Great idea and give me more, Crytek.

PSV
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

XBO
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Ryse: Son of Rome

I finally want to tackle the whole FF franchise sans the MMO's (and spin offs) before XV. XIII was the only game in the series I beat and mostly because I had so much fun with the battle system. I've decided to tackle them out of order based on interest level, so I've started FF VIII. FF IV might be next.

Suffice to say, these games can be pretty lengthy so I doubt I'll be able to complete 3 games a month while completing an FF game every month too. Though I think it's possible this month since I plan to buy Mega Man Legends 1&2 and I hear they're fairly short.

So the plan for April is:
FFVIII (10 hours in)
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Legends 2

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Wii U)
Nier (Xbox 360)
Final Fantasy XIII (PC)
Ryse (PC)
King's Quest: A Knight to remember (PC)
Steins;gate (Vita)
WarioWare: Touched! (n3DS)

Bought WarioWare: Touched! on MyNintendo. Beat it yesterday. Got my three for the month and I'm still playing Dark Souls 3. But maybe I'll be able to beat Steins;gate and King's Quest.
