I might review it later but I just want to watch a better Batman movie right now and try to wash that out of my mind

I have, like, 8 or 9 options. Not including the animated ones.

edit: I did like Wonder Woman

Finally saw it. Don't get the hate. The movie was awesome.

Jesus Christ

One of the worst movies I have ever sat through

Watched it this Tuesday with some friends, thought it was awesome. Ben Affleck as Batman was great, in my opinion.

At least I'm not alone in this opinion.

I think it's safe to say I've never seen anything like this.

Avatar had near-universal acclaim at first.

Inception was divisive, but few people who disliked it were calling it a terrible movie; they just thought it was average.

Prometheus had some people who thought it was okay or even pretty good.

This is unprecedented.

It really is incredible. I agree it is unprecedented. Like, I hated it so much I cannot even comprehend how someone could have enjoyed it. Not that I doubt many of you did, I'm not questioning the sincerity of those opinions. I'm just miles away from them.

I actually used to like Zack Snyder movies. The first Snyder movie I didn't like at all was Man of Steel....but I just...didn't like it. BvS I hated. I went in with low expectations and high hopes and it was worse than I ever would have imagined.

What did you think of Watchmen? I felt that this movie was a close cousin of that - lacking the brilliant story but aesthetically and tonally similar in many places.

So, I just saw the movie, and man... I did not like it. There were segments and scenes that seem pretty fantastic in isolation, but I just feel like Snyder had an extremely poor understanding of the characters beyond their fighting style and powers. Usually when the look is great, and there's excellent action scenes, I can be pretty indifferent to the rest, but I really actively disliked this film.

Exactly how I felt too. I felt this way after MoS as well, Superman just didn't feel like Superman to me in MoS but everyone justified it with things like "he is just learning to be Superman" so I just accepted that it wasn't a movie for me. But here we are in BvS and Superman is actually a worse character now than he was in MoS. I honestly think I like MoS more than BvS, and I thoroughly disliked MoS. I find it hard to see how any director who is a fan of these two characters as they historically are could make a movie like BvS and feel good about it. I really think the best justification is that Zack just doesn't understand the characters, and if he does then he purposefully changed them for the worse for "reasons". Batman certainly fared better than Superman in the movie, homicide not withstanding, but then Zack is an admitted fan of Batman so that may be why.

It's just not a good film and I've realized that I'd rather watch any of the DC animation films over BvS again. I doubt I'll even buy the blu ray for BvS, unless the 3-hour directors cut edition vastly fixes a lot of it. But Superman will still be who he is despite added scenes, so I really can't see more of the movie making me feel any better about it.....

Pretty much. Nothing he makes will ever get universal acclaim since it diverges wildly from expectations. It's why he's so interesting to me as a filmmaker.

Honestly speaking, BvS is a few scenes away from being his masterpiece. What a fantastic movie.

actually for me there's a lot to like in here as a batman fan. the pushed over the edge thing threw me off though initially but it works in the arc (if he is committed to redeeming himself in justice league, if he reverts back to murderous rage then never mind).

the batman workout scene rocked, his cave is on point. nice established backstory with the joker, robin and other villains. alfred/bruce dynamic works as well as ever etc.

i'm not sold on superman though. snyder is so good at portraying him as all-powerful. he has that over any other superman iteration (or any other superhero in existence. compare superman's presence to any avenger for example and this guy just seems that much more threatening and stronger). like i am genuinely afraid for his enemies when you see that guy flying into frame. but his personality is really lacking for me. that needs a fix ASAP.

i wouldn't call this an awful movie. it's not amazing spiderman 2 or the thor franchise imo. but it's a solid mediocre 5/10. characterization issues and awful editing mixed with some great ideas and good scenes. and the oppressive tone needs to dial back a bit. i love this ultra self-serious stuff but you need some kind of balance imo.

Agreed. Went by myself as everyone else had seen it and I'd been putting it off... had a blast.

Yes, it has flaws, it's a little overlong and some of the interweaving stories are a little flat, but the overal thing is one of the best super hero films I've seen.

I loved how it played to fans by emulating/re-imagining various comic book stories (far too many to mention) while making it all feel like a singular set of events.

The action is probably the best in any superhero film yet, especially the incredible Batman scenes. Ben is my favourite Batman yet, he brought Millar's Dark Knight snarling to the screen. The voice scrambler was infinitely superior to Bale's ridiculous gruff.

I really don't get the super negativity at all.

PS - the no-kill Batman myth is retcon and selective. It's ridiculous to focus on it as a negative.

This movie is an absolute disaster. Outside of Ben as Batman and the last fight, the rest is a mess.

I went in with such low expectations and still hated it.

Yikes DC.

Yeah its crazy, me and everyone I have seen it with liked/loved it and absolutely can't understand any ratings below maybe mid 60's at most.
I enjoyed it so much the first time after the ratings destroyed my hype, i had to see it again with a separate group of friends to see if I was crazy or something.

Lex and and the editing are the only thing we could all agree was just completely awful.

I liked it for the most part. If you can turn off your brain for 2 and a half hours, it was just.. fun. I dug Affleck's Batman. I liked Cavill in MoS, so no change there.

One thing that I simply cannot find the "good" in was Eisenberg's Luthor. Jesus...that was just not good (in my opinion, of course).

Same here, I'm not some Snyder hater but I've become less trustful of the man with each movie he churns out. Hell, I thought MoS was pretty bad but there were a number of parts I enjoyed and you were at least able to follow the basics of its narrative. On the other hand, I found BvS a incomprehensible mess and I scratch my head any time someone says they actually enjoyed it. I had never wanted to leave a movie as bad as I did while watching BvS, I literally wanted to tear my eyeballs out at certain points. I couldn't believe what I was actually witnessing. And this was after hearing everything bad about the movie, I went in with my expectations to the floor and it still somehow managed to be even lower.

But hey, WTF do I know I think TDKR is one of the finest super hero films ever made, hell probably one of the best films I've watched.

Obviously all opinion here, but your last sentence invalidates the first. There were so many problems with TDKR that an excellent villian and an excellent score couldn't fix. I would put it below TDK, BB, B1, and BR easily. My most disappointing film experience ever, I reckon. This is coming from a guy who manages his viewing expectations before every film and is routinely able to enjoy sub-par films because I genuinely want to.

To each his own, I thought TDKR was the perfect send off to Nolan's trilogy. It couldn't eclipse the TDK, but then again few movies can, however it was a great movie in its own right. It only suffered from trying to tell so much in such a limited time, however unlike say BvS what we got was more than sufficient and Nolan refused to release a DC as he was satisfied as well. Honestly, the HiTB review of the film reflects the majority of my opinion on it, I even agree that certain parts of the movie were better than TDKR, especially the beginning:

I think certain aspects of the movie were excellent and I overall would say I like the movie, but the disappointment was palpable for me. :(

I am glad you enjoyed it a lot, though.

I loved it too. Just post infrequently because there's some serious baiting going on. Hard to have a grown up discussion about merits/flaws when people fly by with 'LOL GARBAGE YOU IDIOTS' nonsense.

Far from it, seems like a 50-50 split between those that liked it and hated it haha!

It's a high;y divisive movie. Honestly I think Snyder/WB need review what needs to be done to make the next movie better, much better.

No better no worse than MOS or TDKR. OK maybe better because of WW.

Felt a little rush and disjointed, maybe the EE will help.

Overall maybe a solid 7 movie. Shits all over SM3 and ASM1&2

I wouldnt say it is divisive movie, since nearly all of the people who defended or like this movie are mostly DC fans.

Hardly. There was a broad spectrum of people who liked it. Even a fair few people who were talking shit about Snyder and Terrio liked it.

I really went into this expecting to be at least entertained by it. I thought the internet hate towards Man of Steel was way overblown, as I had enjoyed it for the most part (especially the first half), but man, I really didn't like this movie at all. The only positives I can really give it were that there was some cool visuals, a pretty good Batman fight scene and Jesse Eisenberg was surprisingly fun as Lex. The negatives of the film have been pointed out by others so I won't reiterate them here.

One thing I was shocked by was how much people seem to love Ben Affleck as Batman. Like even people who hated the movie were saying he was the best on screen Batman and stuff like that. I thought he was perfectly fine, sorta inoffensive but that there was nothing particularly interesting about his performance. It's probably more down to the writing and what Snyder wanted to do with the character, but I just thought he was a boring, pretty run of the mill Batman, that tried to touch on the issues of him being on the edge but didn't really succeed. The fight scene with the Lex guards was fantastic, but everything else I was very ehh on. Say what you will about Nolan's Batman and how it diverges from the comics, but I at least felt like he was trying to do something interesting with the character. I'm sure Affleck could do a good job in another film, but I didn't care much about him here.

Your perception of reality is skewed by the internet. In reality, most people couldn't give a shit and comic book nerds are a very small segment of the population. Those are the same people who are liking this film on average.

The internet is where you find people who believe that a director's decisions on one of their favorite comic books were not done with them in mind, and are therefore inherently bad.

The more and more I think about it though the more I hate it :(

The more I think about it, the more I love it. It was a solid 8/10, no less, when I left the theater. Now id contemplate a 9, but I want to see it again before I say that.

Still one of my favorite comic book movies of all time.
