What? The Surface brand is doing fantastic for Microsoft.
The platform is Xbox. Calling it an Xbox Surface would muddy whatever this console ends up being (slim or a 1.5c) in the opposite way that the Wii U brand fucked up majorly
It still will be Xbox, its just you've got the best team in the business making it.The platform is Xbox. Calling it an Xbox Surface would muddy whatever this console ends up being (slim or a 1.5c) in the opposite way that the Wii U brand fucked up majorly

Lol. I use a windows phone too though. Am I an insider? LolOne of the five people who use Windows Phone and of course a journo who happens to follow Microsoft and their footsteps.
And Titanfall 2They are making this new xbox one and one game will take full advantage of it... mothafuckin
SCALEBOUND!
Damn, it really does.
Mobile TitanFall? I am guessing some kind of companion app?
EDIT:
R2X1? Revision 2 Xbox One?Xbox 1.5 confirmed
So Xbox One Slim.
Wait is this guy important!
How do we know the Surface team is making the new Xbox One?

Thats cool. I didn't know that and thats a very good thing since I absolutely love my Pro 3.They merged all the hardware units under one roof lead by Panos Panay not too long ago.
[3] The Wii U sold well at launch. That's the dedicated Nintendo fan loyalty; they were there for the launch of the Wii and the Wii U - they will be there for the NX, too. (Nintendo's Wii U problem was its inability to reach beyond its core base.)
"Nintendo sold 3.06 million Wii U units worldwide from its November launch through the end of 2012. That's nearly as much as the 3.19 million units of the original Wii Nintendo sold back in the 2006 holiday season."
If the update is substantial there will be a dedicated event I'd guess.
Edit: oh yeah. He said E3.
An updated Xbox One at E3?
Why would you think that? They aren't going to call it Xbox Surface breh.
Preach it zoidberg, I'm the same wayI prefer the boxy, component look personally. Looks nice when sitting in my entertainment center. I don't care for console designs that look like goofy pieces of modern art, but I'm over 40 so I'm sure that plays a part.
For me a big part of it is that MS has shown that they give a shit about compatibility, and they are clearly working to make games work across a range of devices. Sony on the other hand has done nothing but move away from cross device compatibility. I also just trust MS more to get conpatibility right on the software end of things. It's interesting the contrast in reactions to the PS4K and this thread. There's a lot of scepticism and almost outrage for the former, while it seems Xbox fans are more than willing to toss away their Xbox One already if it means an upgrade is on the way.
Of course, this is just a general sentiment I've observed between the two threads - obviously different posters are involved, and I'm certainly not trying to insinuate any instance of double standards. I just think it's fascinating.

The original Phil Spencer thread was full of outrage.
I think most people have just already said their piece on this topic at this point, which might explain why this thread is way slower than the original Spencer and PS4K threads.
Oh man oh man oh man so much hype!!!
It's so close now, I can almost taste it.
Bring back the DUKE!!!Slimming it down? UnAmerican.
To be fair though, an updated Xbox One could mean anything. If it has better WiFi for example, isn't that already updated? I want to get excited and look forward to a much more powerful Xbox One, but after what Phil Spencer said I just can't. Unless he was trying to mislead everyone with those words and they ARE introducing a Xbox 1.5. It's not the first time one thing is said but the opposite turns out to be true.

I took his words to not mean that they're not making an iterative console, but rather that if they did go down that road, they would make it a significant update (more than just a "0.5" update).
At least that was my interpretation.
I personally feel there's something coming... Questions to me are just how much of an upgrade (more than 2x? VR capable?) and when (this year? Next year? Later?).
Updating the Xbox One to be smaller with WiFi AC would be a collosal waste of time at this point. The Xbox One is underpowered compared to the PS4, let alone the rumored PS4K and now the NX, and not taking this chance when updating the system to go back through and update the hardware to make it better in all regards would be a missed opportunity. It won't be a half step either, like a 1.5 would imply, but a console with a pretty significant update that is backwards compatible with everything available on the Xbox One now and everything that is coming.

But how do they achieve that "pretty significant update"? The 2x GPU performance rumored for PS4K is about in line with what the node shrink is providing AMD's new silicon. If Microsoft intend to step higher, passing even an upgraded PS4, they'd need bigger, better components. It won't be a half step either, like a 1.5 would imply, but a console with a pretty significant update that is backwards compatible with everything available on the Xbox One now and everything that is coming.
Are we talking about the same ms?. They cut the first two consoles off at the knees as soon as the new one showed up, they have zero track record of supporting a console when the new hotness hits. For me a big part of it is that MS has shown that they give a shit about compatibility, and they are clearly working to make games work across a range of devices. I fully welcome a new way of looking at console cycles, I just don't trust Sony to pull it off properly.

I disagree on several fronts:
[1] I think the PS4K will beat PS4 sales for Holiday '16. I think there will be a staggering number of customers that will want to upgrade.
[2] The NX will come out this holiday season, just as the last three Nintendo consoles have done. (Gamecube: November 18, 2001, Wii: November 19, 2006, Wii U: November 18, 2012)

An Xbox One revision at this point makes an incredible amount of sense. The console currently available was designed for a totally different skillset which, although quickly abandoned before/after launch, is still hampering Microsofts market share and brand image.
A new xbox 1.5/slim/whatever is needed for a multitude of reasons. To name a few:
1. A fresh, new start. New marketing, games and features that showcase Microsoft is taking the console in a new direction.
2. Remove redundant features like HDMI in, maybe even the Kinect port.
3. Implement a slimmer, more cost effective design.
4. Upgrade CPU, GPU to improve better gaming performance. At least 100% capable of 1080p, 60fps. Let alone 4k. Average gamer cares about this more than you think.
5. Potentially make the NEW Xbox One Occulus Rift/Hololens etc. compatable right out of the box.
E3 2016 is shaping up to be a very important expo for the entire industry. Could very well illustrate where Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo plan to take gaming to in the next decade.
