NX will launch in March 2017 globally, won't be at E3 (focusing on Zelda instead)

I seriously thought Nintendo was gonna throw PS4 some comp on hardware sales this Xmas with the NX launch. Looks like that's not gonna happen at all. Wow!

I'm more than fine with NX in 2017. It's what I predicted all along, and as irrational as this is, as a diehard fan of the WiiU I'm happy to see it last into a fifth year.

But if Zelda isn't coming out for the holidays.....WTF.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Seriously, I'm just having trouble wrapping my mind around the concept that they will not talk about NX at all this E3, but are still expecting to launch it 9 months later?? In addition, that would mean that they would not be able to talk about NX games as well, meaning that they would be forced to talk about Wii U and 3DS software. I know they said that they would focus on Zelda, but does that seriously mean it will literally be the only thing that they will talk about?

Nintendo... Please... Just fire your entire marketing department. This is suicide and 100% guarantees that NX will flop out of the gate.

Maybe that's Kimishima's plan. Have NX flop to justify going 100% mobile. All that I can safely say is that he's the worst CEO the company has ever had.

LOL.

Omg. Such idiocy.

Gaf is hilarious when hit hits the fan

It's a smart move.
Nintendo should do an own event and reveal it that way. The danger of being drowned out by PS Neo and whatever MicroSoft might be doing could hamper the excitement for NX.

I can't believe that it's looking like Nintendo is continuing to kill off their home consoles 12+ months before their replacements are out. Admittedly, they've done that since the N64, but it still strikes me as very stupid.

Uhm ... they really want to endure this year with Wii U only in the console space? And delayed Zelda ... so ... with what games?

Pretty bad fuck up, missing 2016 release of the system, like really really bad. Why even show up at E³ then? To focus on Zelda, that's going to take nearly another year until release then? Bad idea, and i say that as someone who loves Zelda.

Well, one good thing about this is that they now have more time to get third parties on board and ready to start developing for the NX.

The bad thing is - how to fill up the rest of the year with games for WiiU. Just Zelda alone won't cut it.

Pachter wins this one.

We know literally nothing about it, how do you make that purchase decision?

Even a broken clock...

I'm sure you'll know everything when the time is right. It's not like you cannot decide six months before the launch, or even three... one?

A phone that can play Zelda U.

They say an NX version of it is planned, not that it's going to be comparable to Zelda U proper.

IDK with this level of marketing focusing on the niche and the enthusiast crowd, I don't get how they can be less than a year away from a major console release while there is absolutely no momentum or positive marketing for it yet AT ALL.

To me that just screams "enthusiasts device".

I guess this classic gif is somewhat appropriate again.

Hahaha calm down mate. Today is one awful news after another, but this is insane. C'mon.

It wouldn't surprise me if they are messing up the NX completely and that's the reason they aren't showing it at E3. Remember last time we all thought silence meant good things for Wiiu?

Yikes.

No E3 showing is the most surprising news to me. The March 2017 I was half expecting as there were no news or rumours whatsoever. Holding back Zelda to release with the NX as a launch title is also an expected move. Disappointing to WiiU owners but expected.

I'm more bummed about not seeing any NX news at E3. Damn, that really sucks. The 2017 release date is not as big of a hit to me personally. I still got tons of games and stuff to play, but I was just really hoping for alot of information at E3, and now we wont be getting that.

"When I die, I want Nintendo to lower me into my grave, so that they can let me down one last time."

This quote continues to be more and more relevant with each passing month... I mean WTF, what kind of marketing plan do they have for this console? Not showing it on E3, where entire world will be focused on? What do they plan, to release fucking nintendo direct later on? Sigh....

What truly shitty news.

I hope that at least NX Zelda gets shown off, even if they forego a console reveal.

Edit:

This quote continues to be more and more relevant with each passing month...

Perfect.

A new home console being drowned out by two reiterations? If they fear that then the NX is DOA.

You guys know that E3 goes ignored by the average consumer of video games, right?

Do you not appreciate that E3 coverage last year was all over the most popular viewed sections of YouTube, regardless of whether people actually saw the E3 feed live?

That subsequently got shared everywhere. Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. People I didn't even know that liked gaming were sharing that Gametrailers holy trinity meltdown - not ironically either. They got caught in the enthusiasm.

E3 may be ignored by the average consumer but goddamn, it now can get high visibility on social media and that (however many may scoff) is a powerful tool.

Come on. NX wouldn't get drowned by the new PS4.

E3 is like the biggest event for things and nearly the enitre console gaming community just waits for it. Proves me somehow that Nintendo lost it and/or doesn't care at all. I kinda get a bad feeling for NX now.

That's a lazy response and you know it. Give credit where it's due.

Well of course I know that.
I don't understand how anyone can decide "Day one purchase, first since the N64!" at this stage though.

Yeah, Splatoon and Mario Maker, Nintendo's titles with the biggest mindshare in years, sure do constitute pointless filler.
Two great games in 2015 is nice, but 2016 is gonna be an absolute nightmare if they don't have a heavy-hitter for the Wii U this holiday, and haven't even had anything on the caliber of those two games this year. It's one thing to have your system be practically dead for a new system release around the same time as you old systems's swan song, but now they have a console on the market that is essentially dead with nothing to show for it.
