Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition |OT| Mourning Wood

My thread here is basically an unrelenting love note to the escape sequences.

I know, I saw the thread :) A lot of people loved them, but also a lot of people found them infuriating... In the end though, if you managed to do it, it felt like beating a boss and that was our goal! :)

Was this ever announced for 360?

Yes.

Sometime after E3, Moon Studios announced on the game website that an Xbox 360 version of "Ori and the Blind Forest" was in development and planned for release sometime in early 2015.[14] In November 2014, Moon Studios updated the status of the game and announced plans to push back the launch of the title into "early 2015" for Xbox One and PC, but no further mention of the Xbox 360 version was made at the time.[15] Asked to clarify the status of the Xbox 360 edition, Moon Studios confirmed it was still in development and would be released later in 2015.[16]

Thanks :)

We made these sequences as a way of testing the players abilities as a sort of climax to an area. All things said and done, I think that choice was fairly divisive - some people tell us that they absolutely loved them, some people were so angry with us that they stopped playing Ori at that point... It's supposed to pack a punch in terms of challenge, but it's definitely a little sad to see that some people couldn't get over the little bump in difficulty.

I see it as a learning process - I'm using GAF and your guys feedback to understand what you liked / didn't like and that informs my thinking on this kinda stuff. We're currently already working on new projects and hopefully we'll deliver better and better stuff with every single game, so I really appreciate the response and the feedback we're getting, thanks a lot :)
Just curious... Have you (or any members of the team) played BIT.TRIP BEAT? Thoughts on 1.11 (Odyssey) if so?

Haven't played DE yet, waiting for Steam (HOORAY RELEASE DATE!), but the absolutely-perfect-already-in-the-base-game Ginso Tree escape segment reminded me of that level very much. Had the same feeling when clearing both; easily two of my favorite experiences in my 30+ years as a gamer.

I would do, but I'm not seeing the definitive edition on Steam this morning.

Is there word of an official time of release?

I got stuck in the water tree scape last night. Lof of tries but didnt succeed.
That is the hardest part by far from what I played, but it wont stop me from playing the game. I know some time this year I will beat it = )

There's a first batch of Merch available on our store here:

http://www.oriblindforestshop.com/store/

There's more coming! If you guys have more suggestions or stuff you'd wanna see, feel free to shoot us a mail at feedback @ moongamestudios.com

And we hear you on the physical release - It's something we're trying to figure out with Microsoft. We're honestly not sure if / when it's going to happen, but we're definitely listening and we're trying to make sure MS does too :)

We're all really proud of the Definitive Edition - Playing it on one of those sweet 21:9 monitors is just really cool and due to the delay, we also had some more time to optimize the hell out of it. I've been recently playing through it on a Surface Pro 4 and it works just fine now even if you don't have a dedicated GPU in your machine.

Yes please, it makes no sense that a definitive edition of the best xbox one game doesn't have a retail edition.

Ah cool.

Gives me something to play this weekend. I look forward to seeing the changes compared to the original release.

YAY! I know what I'm [re]playing the next week!
Also, I'm curious. It says $5 as if all versions are $5 - even non-upgrades. Is that true? Is the full game only $5?

No. It only says $5 if you own the original game in your library. The discounted price is only available for those that owned the initial release.

The escape sequences were the best! It literally was only due to lack of skill that you would die. Re spawning super fast basically solves the issue of having to restarting the sequence. You can just keep going.

Looks like I'm got something else to add to my backlog. I had enough fun with the original that I'm more than willing to have another go with more stuff to do.

The first one was pretty bad because you couldn't see the ground very well, and I had some problems on the last one when
you were expected to rebound off of a falling rock for the final maneuver, even though when I tried that in Sorrow's Pass for fun it didn't work.

The second one was great though I'll give you that.

Think I'll have to dust off the X1 for this, not the kind of game I particularly want to play sitting at a desk

Also the 75% off for existing owners is only available for a month?

No, if you don't own the original, it is $20. If you do, it's $5. Same as on Xbox One.

Yeah limited time discount is kind of a bummer, but I suppose the developers / publishers think if those who didn't want to buy the upgrade within the first month at the discount were probably going to hold off later on during a sale anyways.

So if you own the original and buy the DE on discount for $5 then does it replace the previous version of Ori in your library? It's really not that big a deal, I just don't want two versions of the same game in my library.

EDIT: Appears so, that's alright. I should be able to just hide the base game.

You can turn Vsync on and off in the options.

I did, I have a gsync monitor so it's the first thing I do. It was running at 60 on 120hz when I checked

Went back in to check. Weird, when I turn Vsync off even if I'm at 120h or 144hzz it seems to turn on some sort of cap to 60, when I turn vsync on, it syncs to 120hz.

Are 21:9 resolutions supported in the definite edition?

Yup. We saw a lot of people wanting 21:9 support (and hated that people used a crazy hack to get that...), so we went through the hell of updating every level in the game (and every cinematic) to support 21:9... Don't say we don't love you!

Ori and the Blind Forest DE looks marvelous on these super nice 21:9 monitors now! :)

That is awesome. I am seriously in awe of the dedication here. Time to play through the game again I guess.

Looks marvelous on all monitors tbh :D Downloading it now but can't start playing the game until Friday...

Anyway thanks for keeping us updated as much as you could during the delay... Excited it's finally here. Will enjoy my playthrough then look forward to future projects by Moon!

Thanks :) We were hoping some people would notice the effort we put in to support that feature. Not even GTAV and other games fully support 21:9 (mostly you see black bars during cutscenes), but that wasn't good enough for us, since we hate black bars :)

Just wanted to say you guys are amazing. I played the game near launch and just bought the DE. Looking forward to 1250/1250 the achievement list!

Think I'm at the halfway point with Dark Souls 3, but I scooped this up for next week. I'm psyched to try out these new abilities.

I've got an i7-4710MQ @ 2.50GHz with 8GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 870M, which seems more than enough compared to the recommended system requirements.

I'm getting 20FPS max at 1080p. Dropping the resolution to 720 gives me about 34 FPS.

What's going on? D:

This definitely shouldn't happen... I just played through it on a Surface Pro 4 with a very smooth framerate. Do the typical stuff, update your GPU drivers, etc. and if you still have issues, mail us at feedback @ moongamestudios.com. Your PC should be way strong enough to play at smooth 60 all the way through :)
