I feel like focusing just on Zelda risks showing too much of it.

I think what they'll do is focus on two or three sections of the game.

1. Some controlled section of the field to show off dat tree tech or some other interactions

2. The beginning of one dungeon or lead up to one

3. Some mini game? lol I honestly hope not but just a thought.

Please don't bring Scifi into Zelda.

That is the absolute last thing I want to see happen.

What's your opinion on robots in Skyward Sword? Magnets and mechanisms in Twilight Princess? Steamboats in Phantom Hourglass? Trains in Spirit Tracks? Neon signs in Ocarina of Time? UFOs in Majora's Mask?

Zelda games always had a dash of "hi-tech."

It's been heading that direction for awhile now, and it's becoming more and more prevalent as the series goes on. This game is no different. The closer you get to the Gods and the ancient past of Hyrule, the more obvious it becomes that something scifi-ish is happening in the background and some lost ancient highly advanced civilization is involved.

The entire sequence of this:

makes it painfully clear that something scifi is happening, it behaves too technical and mechanical to be considered magic. Then there's Fi, who acts like a PDA and is clearly an advance AI hologram. Skyward Sword has shown that there is a lot of sci-fi things happening in the background.

Best case scenario: the game looks just as good as the reveal trailer
Worst case scenario: it still looks like what was shown at the game awards

So, it'll look the same either way.

I agree. It's actually an element I really enjoy. I think it's important to point out that just because tech is present doesn't mean that magic doesn't still play a role. Everything is still presented in a very whimsical, fantasy light.

Well. It is Zelda, after all.

That's probably the best reason not to be confident in the game.

The ancient civilization is always more advanced than the current one.

It's like, rule #1 of fantasy.

There.

But seriously, it has been a common trope in fantasy for so long. The modern myth of Atlantis has the same thing, a lost highly advance civilization that existed at the time of before Ancient Greece before disappearing.
But it really is omnipresent in speculative fiction whenever ancient civilizations pop up.

Like even stories that deliberately subvert the trend (Stormlight Archives) still have at least one aspect that falls into it (Shardblades and Shard Plate).

Funny thing is that, aside from the placeholders, the game looked the same between E3 2014 and TGA: there were no effects missing. The only difference was that at E3 2014, the footage they showed was a small fraction, basically a "cutscene" (it was literally that after the monster started chasing Link) prepared ad hoc for the event. This also allowed them to use that "cinematic" cut, so everything looked perfect. On the TGA demo, they were running around in a world that was FAR from being complete, and there was a ton of placeholder content, so they had to show it off-screen. But there is no way they show something offscreen and full of placeholders now, at ~8 months from going gold, so it's impossible that it looks like the TGA demo. Aonuma said that the graphics would improve compared to the reveal so it's more likely that it looks better than that famous screen, except for the IQ (we know that the game won't run at 1080p downsampled from 1440p, right?).

The thing is: The game always looked like the reveal trailer, we just saw some other areas with bad texture mapping. :p

This is the latest footage we got:

Yup, we had those 10 seconds too and they certainly didn't look worse than the reveal. Amazing gif btw.

"Hero.mp4"?

I guess I'll throw this out here.

The first link refers to it as "Hero"

The second link refers to it as "Zelda" despite it being Link, from what we've been told.

Probably doesn't mean anything.

Most definitely nothing noteworthy at all. Just some special (?) terminology from Nintendo in their web stuff (unless it's some know web dev stuff?).

For example, from the NCL page for Elliot Quest:

Then from NoA website (above is from the page for Escape from Flate Industries, below is from the E3 website):

So yeah, nothing to see here I'm afraid.

(I know this because I've seen that enough on NCL's website while fetching 3DS screens. I didn't just go in detective mode and found this in 2mn, ha ha).

Besides, even if they really allowed to let us chose gender, they're still going to call the main character of Zelda games "Link".

I actually forgot that short snippet at the end of twilight princess HD was a thing lol.

I really just want to know what to call this damn game. Probably less than a year out and we don't know the name that's been announced for almost 3 years.

Reggie is hosting the so-called Nintendo Treehouse: Live. Aonuma says this is a "turning point for the series", and will introduce a new game mechanic, something "never seen on previous games".

Only Nintendo would make a huge deal out of a new game mechanic.

Eh, it can all just be technological looking magic. The robots in SS were basically stone golems powered by magic. Yeah, the one guy tinkers with them and makes them work, but I believe the AI/Fuel is basically just magic powering everything. I wouldn't expect it to get more sci-fi than that. We'll see, but I think it'll always tie back in to magic.

It's like the reverse of clark's third law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology. That's how I see Zelda, anyway.

They really need to work on the pacing of these videos... they are so slow and plodding. Almost like they are targeting the videos (not the games) so children. Slow, beat you over the head, explanations. A lot of over/long-winded explanations.

Is there a specific countdown clock for this?

I'm not sure on what time this begins (Belgium)

Do you have a Google Calendar or any other sort of calendar service/application? Open the web site, scroll all the way down and click the button. The appointment should be copied to your calendar in accordance with time zones.

I suppose he meant that Nintendo's presentation videos in general should be more action-packed and with less explanations, developer commentaries etc. (And I strongly disagree.)

nintendo has had the best pacing out of all of the e3 presentations the last few years. No awkward pauses or devs saying 'um' a lot. Pre-recorded has its advantages.

Dude, Link with a fucking longsword would be very interesting. I wonder how much that would change up combat. Instead of the standard deft strikes and slashes, we could get slower, but more savage swings and cleaves.

I'm excited to play this game but isn't the game not actually coming out until next March? I really don't want to see a bunch of stuff that far in advance of release.

It'll be like The Wind Waker.

Totally useless.

I hope for longsword combat in the new Zelda. It was super fun to use Biggoron Sword in OoT, sticks in The Wind Waker, Koloktos sword in Skyward Sword etc...
