I love how much color there is in this footage. I'm so used to seeing WWI portrayed as very grey and bleak looking that it's nice to see some vibrancy.

If the campaign could be a good 12-15 hours, id be cery happy. Well, simple hoping there is a single player... havent read anything about that yet.

But one thing, it sure was like infinitivly more impressive than COD.

The trailer's music was utter pants. They really should've gone with some sort of Dark Choral (and adjusted the trailer's tempo accordingly) instead of the typical wubwubwub bleh.

Fantastic news, game just keeps looking better and better.
Watch as they remove the server browser and have matchmaking only a la Battlefront. I cry.

This game isn't meant for as casual audiences as Battlefront was, so I'm guessing they'll just use Battlelog again.

I dont wanna sound insensitive, but.... It was more than 100 years ago....

Of course, then I read that last line and lost all shits given. What the hell?

This.

No war is glorious i had a family member that fought in the first and second world war, i think its great that they are visiting this era and fully realizing it in a Triple A game and I am sure they will get across how awful and brutal this kind of warfare was.

how is it any more outrageous than what gets depicted in any other military FPS

The people that get offended by stuff like this are amusing. I've been to Afghanistan twice. I don't get offended by things made about what has happened over there. Games and movies could never accurately capture what the experience is like to be there. They are made with entertainment in mind.

One thing they never get right is the flies.........the damn flies

So yeah, WW1 can be fun ! I'm glad they chose this.

The graphics look a lot like Battlefront, especially desert and forest who seem to be Tatooine and Endor.

Strange that they don't talk about WW1 but "All-Out-War". The name is also strange, but as I stated in the time count thread, it's not worse than Xbox One or Wii U.

This. Game looks great but I want to see gameplay

Yes, but there is something called a "media plan" or "PR strategy". You have to keep the players interested so you show a little each time (every month, then every two weeks, then every week, then every two days...). That means that actual gameplay will be seen at E3. I can bet that it will be the showcase of 1 mode, 1 map, and that this is likely to be seen in the beta later this year.

I mean, it's not like this is not the standard media plan.

And to be honest, it is not CGI, it's the Frostbite running on 8K, downsampled to 1080p, compressed to Youtube, with selected moments of what is probably the campaign.

when people say that, they aren't referring to Battlefield. every game isn't Valiant Hearts, just like every war movie isn't Saving Private Ryan.

So ? Where do you draw the line between "art" and "non art" ? Well, you don't, and people thought about it before your were born so that you don't stop thinking when it's not "art".

The CoD or BF games would be an amazing subject of study to see how war is depicted and how their representation build biased ideas in a collective society (they sell dozens of millions). You should check out this Wikipedia page and get interested in semiology.

Everyone who thinks "This is just a video game" or "Video games are video games" should check out the page too. You'll learn the word "Tautology".

And yes you can get offended, this is normal, but use this offense to criticize what is depicted in the game and not only this one but also those you won't. Have a sharp mind.

I'm just curious as to how DICE can make such good looking games compared to the lackluster COD games. Doesn't Activision make like a ton more money...

It's interesting to see Battlefield go to the complete opposite direction of CoD, though I guess it would have to in order to stand out. The setting is certainly fresh and it has me intrigued even though I haven't played Battlefield since Bad Company 2.

Basically the original status quo is beginning to take form once more but reversed. Before it was COD in World War Two from COD1 to COD3, with Battlefield tackling modern warfare and the future with BF2 and BF2142. Now it's Battlefield tackling World War One with COD tackling the future. Both franchises are better off without trying to constantly chase after the same goal. It's better when they both split off and try to do their own thing.

I just can't say it enough how thankful I am that Dice decided not to go the future route. If we had Infinite Warfare, Titanfall 2, and a 2143 in the same year, I just..I don't know.

So they're going to butcher historical accuracy in order to make the game fun right? Because sticking to a realistic WW1 setting would probably result in unfun guns, vehicles and equipment.

Can't decide if I want an alternative history version of WWI more than just a normal WWI game.

In one hand I've never played WWI so that's kind of interesting but an alt WWI would be fucking cool, too.

Why would they spend all that money on improving their engine? It's not like their games don't already sell. When they're no longer the dominant player sitting on their laurels, then they will be forced to make capital investments in creating or appropriating significant technological upgrades. Until then, milk it baby!

Exactly.

In the livestream they were saying your squad is now a group that can go around throughout modes and maps.

I know this SOUNDS good, but it has me slightly worried about the server situation surrounding this game. If this is another Battlefront nightmare on PC with a blackbox matchmaker only and no community servers, then I'm totally out no matter how good it may look.

I HOPE DICE isn't that stupid to burn their community like that, but with EA pulling the strings....I dunno.

If there is no server browser or community rentable servers they might as well cancel the pc version.

This turns my stomach. Just flat out the most offensive game I've ever seen.

I can name family members that died in this conflict, wept at the pictures and accounts of the dead and maimed that experienced this hell, was taught all the horrors of it from primary school, through my whole life, it's only ever been a symbol of the folly of war, the worst, most black and shameful era of British and European history. I've been to the actual battlefields and mass graves across Europe, held the minutes silence without fail every rememberence day my entire life, for as long as I could understand the meaning of it.

There was no glory in this war. No thrilling action or daring do, no heroes and villains, this was mass murder, a scar on the history of our species, and every single person involved in it was a victim.

This trailer, the entire concept of this game, makes me feel physically sick, and just so fucking angry.

How fucking dare anyone make a game like this about the First World War.

I don't know what's worse, the sick fucking emotionless, greedy cunts that would seriously exploit this horror of an industrialised massacre, or the ignorant, soulless bastards that will give them money and enjoy it.

Anyone involved in this, or seriously think of buying this, should be ashamed of themselves.

Most people have family members affected by the first world war, I have a close family that fought in the first and second world wars. There is no glory in recreating any kind of war but what makes it any different compared to a WWII or for that matter any other game depicting any war. I bet you have played many games depicting some kind of warfare. I am glad that this era is finally realized in the format of a triple A title.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

What you won't enjoy your guns jamming every other bullet? If the gun fires at all.

Do people actually think of EA as a conservative company?

They publicly march in gay pride parades in every city they're in.

They encourage staff to feel comfortable being publicly transgendered.

They put out AAA games starring women.

They have multiple AAA projects being helmed by women.

There was already a black man on the cover for Battlefield Hardline, which starred a hispanic man, a black man, and an asian woman.

They're not exactly Trump-central.

True, if you wan to look at something way more conservative, look at the recent Ubisoft games.

The Division is the portrayal of the fears of the far-right (chaos vs order, how the crowd behave, the needs for an oppressive State), Assassin's Creed Unity the representation of the far-right memory on the French Revolution and the fear of the citizens as they unite, and Watch Dogs the defense of a society where the ends justifies the means without any "common good goal", remorse or revolutionary process. Didn't play AC:Syndicate, from what I've read it had good writing and was helped by the setting so they don't seem to have messed up this one. I'd say that's because they have writers who think about what they write and can convince the editorial team that this is the way to go. That seems to be something DICE wants to do with BF1, at least they seem conscious that their game has an impact on representations of the war and that they can make a little difference for people who have misconceptions.

Haven't done much research on the Far Cry, but so far they are games where you kill everyone to get more ressources and conquer territory by removing (killing) everyone you find. Seems to reproduce the sweet couple of capitalism and imperialism. In Primal, murder is justified by the fact that the ennemies are red and cannibals (convenient!). That's more common.

love that they're looking into topics of diversity during the war. Great way to revisit the topic in a different scope

My ears bleed from the godawful dub step. You'd think a WW1 setting would let them take the chance to revisit the glory days of orchestral music (which we'll probably still in the final game, if I were to guess.)

Still, the setting looks bloody interesting, and I love they they seem keen on bringing back destruction in a big way.

That, and trench warfare wasn't known to be the most exciting. Planes were also in their infancy. I'm sure the game will be great, but I just find the choice of WW1 kind of odd.

More "WW1 was nothing but trenches" stuff.

This game will end up being educational more than anything.
