R&C trucking along, great performance all things considered.

Poor Battleborn. What an odd situation. Nobody I talked seemed to either hate or love the game. Game just seemed to illicit indifference.

Doom will do very well on Xbox next week. Uc4 will take the wind out of the ps4 version. especially with 5 days tracking over 2

Numbers of days tracking has very little relevance here lol, day 1 U4 alone will be a lot higher than all versions of Doom combined.

BTW what are the estimated numbers for R&C this week.

Just wanted to know what is the ceiling for battleborn.

Also have to remember Overwatch had its free open beta last week, and launches in a few weeks time. Despite the differences both games are realistically competing for the same mind share right now, especially given the similarities in graphical style.

Anyone expecting to be able to top Overwatch needs their head examining - you can see it's going to be a juggernaut just from the twitch streams.

Amazing Ratchet is still number one. It warms my heart to see it.

Now capitalise on it and release Ratchet Future Saga on PS4.

So doesn't that mean BB sold less combined than R&C's second week of sales?

I was expecting it to underperform, but bloody hell!

Sony has been going big out with the Doom ads in Australia. Tv ads all over pay tv. And led sign advertising at the afl games over the last month.

And haven't seen any uncharted 4 ads.

Sony are marketing Doom?

I don't watch any TV these days, so I wouldn't know about any TV ads, but there was an Uncharted 4 ad before my Civil War screening last Friday here in NZ.

Doom should do better than Battleborn on ads alone. Shitty aimed at kids with football commentary for Battleborn vs Doom guy fucking shit up in hell alongside metal music.

Yeah I've seen loads of UC4 ads, even one during TWD finale. With great reviews, word of mouth and the ad campaign I'm hoping it does atleast 200k.

While I enjoy Overwatch I don't expect it to do higher than UC4 week 2.

In the UK I've seen more DOOM ads than Uncharted 4 ads on TV. I'm shocked since Sony claim Uncharted 4 is their largest marketing campaign ever.

200k would be a stretch I think. 115k for UC 3. Anything higher than that would be a good result though.

Overwatch across multiple formats should pop up higher than the second week of a Tuesday release I reckon. If UC4 does above 100k, I'd expect a 70% drop off.

So Battleborn is going to flop. Lesson to be learned: make games that people want to play.

those numbers go beyond a flop its a massive disaster, it was a Tuesday release, so its going to have a 70%+ drop incoming, you could be looking at first 2 weeks sales of <23k over 2 platforms.

Even Evolve (49k), the order (36k), Streetfighter V(24k) and sunset Overdrive and quantum break both <27k sold more in week one than potentially in 2 weeks of battleborn.

Its going to have to sprout some Splatoon in Japan like legs to get even mediocre sales.

I'd expect the drop to be closer to 50% just because of the lower numbers. Another 70% would be devastating.

All that GTA5 money is getting wasted on stuff like Evolve and Battleborn. They need to hurry up with GTA6 development! (or do deals on multiplayer money in GTA5, which is more likely)

Battleborn is gonna have a small niche. I never expected front-loaded sales. Future free DLC and word of mouth could help considering people who played more of the game are finding something to enjoy in it.

That's not the lesson at all.

Doom selling better on Xbox. Hmm..........

Hey! They did XCom 2 recently at least.

RDR2 will be before GTA6 anyway.

Battleborn has also dropped entirely out of Amazon's top 100 daily sellers in the US. So it seems like its UK sales may be an indication of how it's doing around the world. This is a game that never seemed to gain any momentum no matter what they tried. It had the worst type of reaction you could get with a game. While Infinite War's reaction has been negative, people at least care enough to react. People didn't give a shit about Battleborn from the start.

I wonder if Ratchet and Clank may end up being insomniac's most successful game in the last 10 years - including Sunset Overdrive, their upcoming VR games, Fuse (haha) and Resistance...

Well that sounds stupid. I don't think Doom will do as badly as some seem to think but there's no way it's going to do anywhere near as well as Uncharted 4 and to advertise a mid-tier third party game against Uncharted 4's launch... It really does sound idiotic.

I'm pretty sure that Sony isn't paying for the advertising outright, just throwing in some cash to get the "on Playstation" shit at the end of the ad. The amount of ads is all Bethesda and it really shows since they're on with the frequency and target market of the Fallout ones.

What impresses me is how little they did with the attention they did generate.

They actually were getting respectable social media views and beta performance, but they conversion rate was horrible.

I was expecting maybe a 2-3 million LTD performance, but I'm not sure if they'll do even that.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I don't want to reduce the success or insuccess of any game due to just one single factor, since that would be a superficial analysis, and Battleborn wasn't exactly getting this huge praise from the start, but I'd dare to say Overwatch early access / open beta happening right when it launched sucked up a good / big part whatever excitement was there for the game's launch.

2K with two straight misses this gen. Evolve and Battleborn. Mafia 3 next? Good thing they have X-Com and NBA
and Rockstar.

Activision implied in their last call that they expect Overwatch to do over 3.3 million copies in the first day (they said biggest Blizzard launch since Diablo 3 and 3.3 million in 24 hours is what Draenor did), so I'm sure that's going to take a big bite out of a lot of the market in May.

Doom and Uncharted have also had very aggressive launch campaigns.

But at its core, I think they just ultimately failed to impress when they game hit consumers with the beta, which is normally when new multiplayer-focused IPs really cinch their audience.

While XCOM is a fine, high margin performer for them, it's not really the type of thing you cement your financials around as the fourth largest publisher.

Rockstar's eternally extending development cycles are really putting the hurt on the company.

WWE sells really well as well... Annoyingly since I want some goddamn change to the series!

Mafia 3 should do well if they market it right.

Yep i expected more after the beta .
If you look at other betas this gen WOM and buzz were way bigger afterwards .
Also coming so close to UC (marketing has been huge for this ) and other games hurt it .

True, though I'd still question why they'd spend anything on it.

I can't imagine 2 million people are interested in playing a MOBA on console, nevertheless 2 million interested in a MOBA outside of LoL, Dota 2, and SMITE.

I reckon that the deal was probably in place way before either Doom or Uncharted 4 were delayed. Much like MS's deal for Fallout 4 happening to land on the same date as the Rise of the Tomb Raider release.

Same here too, I haven't seen a single Uncharted ad yet, except the ones that Sony announced would show (one for the Walking Dead and a show on Channel 4 were it took up an entire ad slot). Though I watch like two shows on TV, so I'm probably not the best example to use.
