Kotaku - No Man's Sky delayed

Haters in this thread.

People WANT this game to fail?
I don't want anything, I just think that Sony has just handled this wrong.
They have taken a small indie developer who is putting blood sweat and tears into making this overly ambitious title, and by that I dont mean any disrepect. And thrown it into the lime light where its picked up this AAA title.
I can remember watching last years e3 section and thinking great way to put this developer under pressure.
This aint a game on my radar but the amount of hype on it I just cant see it pulling through.
A wise man once said ' a delayed game is evently good. A bad game is bad forever.' Lets see if this is the case

Yes a quote that was relevant 15 years ago...

Sony has very little to do with this, the game is published and developed by hello games themselves...

Umm, actually, Sony IS publishing it at least on PlayStation 4. Hello is only self-publishing the PC version on Steam with a LA-based company (can't mind the name) distributing the PC collector's edition worldwide.

Bummer!

But I'm wondering if the delay is because they want to push it for VR as well? I'm fine with that, honestly. If there is one game that would push me over the fence into buying PlayStation VR, it's No Man's Sky.

I mean, I'm sad that it's not releasing next month, but I can wait. I have a ton of games to play, and this just gives me a bit more time to chip away at my backlog (I'm still playing The Witcher 3! Why is that game so damn big!!!).

But you'll laugh when it fails.

I'm confused. Like genuinely. Publisher v. distributor. There seems to be a distinction between the two, but I'm not sure the difference.

Enlighten?

Those EB flyers were designed prior to the date being changed yesterday.

This is immediately what I assumed. People doing whatever they can to hope the game isn't actually delayed. At this point it could be anything, but using flyers as concrete evidence is grasping at straws.

You sound like Sony scooped them up and dangled them in front of a screaming mob. Hello chose to partner with them. Hello has many AAA industry veterans among its staff, so I think they knew what they were getting into, though knowing and experiencing are two different things. I think Sean will probably have gray hair and walking with a cane at E3, but I think he wanted this push for his company. He's an ambitious guy, obviously.

I still dont get why someone that breaks a news story is the one targeted with anger. Unless of course he was the one that delayed the game. Did you delay the game Jason? Why did you delay the game? What is your problem?

I seem to recall Hello Games asking for the big spot at e3, something about wanting indie games to get treated like AAA games. At one point they wanted a live band at the E3 showcase, not understanding what a major undertaking that was on short notice. Sony's not dragging them into the limelight, Hello Games is jumping into it, much to Sony's delight I'm sure.

I agree the game is likely significantly delayed but the bolded struck me as amusing considering its also the core evidence for the delay, or perhaps posters are more believable than flyers? ;)

EB Canada staff were told there's no definitive date on release as of yesterday. EB literature are designed weeks in advance.

So if this game is bad it's because it's by an indie developer?

Seriously the amount of shit shoveled out by "AAA" developers.

If I would take a stab at it, I'd say that Sony is distributing(Covering the manufacturing costs of printing discs) for the time exclusivity/full exclusivity.

  1. EB Canada doesn't know right now when the game is coming out
  2. The EB Canada literature is made weeks in advance of distribution
  3. The uncertain date was given yesterday
  4. This doesn't necessarily mean that all versions of this game are delayed but it's a reasonable assumption to make

I've never checked a thread as much as I have checked this one since I saw it yesterday morning. I keep hoping it's just a mean joke.

I'll wait as long as it takes and I certainly won't get mad at the developers, but I am so disappointed that they aren't hitting this release date. They waited so long to announce I figure they really meant it.

Also I had the perfect summer lined up starting on Tuesday with the Witcher expansion. Oh well, I was a little worried I was going to have to rush through it.

Hopefully it will be out before this fall. I just want to hear it from Hello Games themselves so we can know how long we need to wait.

Hello Games is an INDIE developer - they self-publish.

That's why they are considered "Indie."

Sony is distributing it - for the PS4 version.

The PC version is digital only, so all they have to do is cut 30% to Valve (or whoever else is doing digital distribution)

This whole thing feels like it's stealth marketing for Sky Rogue.

Nobody knew about that game until the No Man's Sky delay. Conspiracy? I think not!! Wait, I don't think I got that right...

Anyway, a delay is sad, but, it's a pretty crazy game. If it needs more time in the oven, it needs more time in the oven. The extreme reactions to this, though, are fucking embarrassing. It's just a video game. And I work in the games industry! A lot of blood, sweat, and more blood and sweat go into making your interactive entertainment. Sometimes shit just isn't ready by an intended date, and it's for completely unforeseen and unexpected reasons. Nobody is more disappointed in the delay of a game than the men and women that are working on that game. And games don't get delayed just for funsies. A lot of meetings, back and forth from all departments are had regularly, with most trying to hold off a delay for as long as possible until it's clearly inevitable that a delay must happen.

No one is doing this to ruin your day/week/month/year. If a delay is coming, it's because the game needed it, and it had to be done. I've worked for a lot of companies in my 10+ years in the industry, and nobody looks forward to delaying a game. A delay is just one more day/week/month that you're dipping deeper into the budget, expanding costs, as well as annoying consumers who wanted the game on the original release date. Nobody is happy about it, but it seems like people should just take a lot of deep, deep breaths, and wait for not just confirmation of a delay, but the new intended release date. It will all be sorted out in the end, and then the game will be in your hand.

Remember when Uncharted 4 was delayed? That sucked, but the game is here now, and many of us have played it and completed it, and the memories of its delay are long since gone. The same will happen to No Man's Sky.

It's hands down my next most anticipated game of the year (after Ratchet, Uncharted 4, and Dark Souls 3), so it's not like I didn't have a vested interest in this game releasing June 21st (I've had it pre-ordered since January), but it'll be alright. We'll get our game eventually. I just want it to be worth the wait.

Man, I even wrote an opinion piece about why I'm worried for the game, and I know the defense force is strong, but I want it to be good and I hope it succeeds. The vibes surrounding the rumored delay have been weird and it's strange to see people freak out so much over the rumored delay of a game we still don't even know that much about...

Edit: Uh-oh, top of the page uhh, I hope there are cool turtle creatures!..?

Sidebar: the gamestop advert shows another multitool and I thought I remembered Shawn saying there was only one and you could mod it?

The June 24th as the new date makes no logical sense. People just found out about the new delay a day ago, they haven't commented officially on it yet, and yet they've gotten gamestop to print out new flyers with a 3 day change reflected on it within 24 hours? Big corporations aren't that efficient lol

Except the guy who posted it said that this was the new date...

So you believe a random poster, but not Jason who has a long reputation of breaking insider information and a track record that suggests his sources and ability to vet them is trustworthy?

Not saying this isn't the new date, just saying your resistance to giving any weight to what Kotaku writes is really funny.
