Really surprised to see Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE make it 5 on the Wii U list considering how badly it sold (well deserved imo too)

Kind of surprised that there is no iCO or Shadow of the Colossus in the PS2 section, I guess Japanese aren't big fans.

Interesting stuff. Some surprising mentions, and some glaring omissions, but that was to be expected.
8. Animal Forest e+ - 75 votes
Yessss, the last AC with ROMs. I miss the arcade in my basement.

I hope beyond any reasonable hope that AC NX will somehow give us access to our purchased VC games. I miss that feature so much.

Lack of Pokemon X,Y Baten Kaitos being number 2 on the GC list, no Powerstone in the DC list, shadow hearts 2 making it in the PS2 list..... Don't get me wrong this is a good list but that doesn't change the fact that it is all kinds of strange.

Thread title seems to suggest that Famitsu did a general poll of Japanese players, not just a poll of its readers. But that may just be me reading too much into the title.

Wonder what percentage response these numbers represent (it wasn't mentioned in the Kotaku article). Because they seem like moderately low response numbers.

PSX: Doko Demo Issyo and a Harvest Moon game. This got my attention.

And the Sega Systems, basically every Sakura Taisen game is in there. i wonder if this had anything to do with the type of anime in the mid 90's?

Well, 90s is the golden age of Japanese anime. There are lots and lots of classics from these period. This could be a factor that Sakura Taisen succeeded. However, we should not underestimated the originality of the game. The theme is interesting, integrating secret special force, giant robots with theater troupe (probably inspired by the famous Takarazuka Revue). It combines visual novels and SRPG with dating elements, good anime direction and a masterfully crafted theme song. Bacially, I think these elements are unique and original at the time it was released that made the game a huge success.

It is a shame that the majority of the series (except Sakura Wars V) were not localized, so it is not popular among western people. The gameplay for the first entry is, IMO, quite weak. But the third entry is one of the best games I have ever played, and I think SEGA should really continue the series as there are many fans out there waiting for a sequel. While people were saying that last year was a year of dream, I am still waiting my Sakura Taisen and Valkyrie Profile sequels. If these two were announced, I would have finally lived my year of dream.

V didn't just kill the series, it pretty much killed RED. Had it done better here, we might have seen the earlier games localized, but the scorched earth hostility of the Sakura Wars community against V ensured that was never going to happen.

I'm surprised Xenoblade is number 1 for Wii. It's nice seeing Xenoblade X and Xenogears in the top 10 in their respective consoles.

I haven't yet played V, but I have heard about the hostility from the fan base. Is it really that bad?

Nice to see Soul Hackers so high on the Saturn, no Panzer Dragoon though :(
Strange Journey also high on the DS.
Weird that Persona 4 isn't on the PS2 list. At least it's number 1 on Vita.
Yay for Nier! Really wasn't expecting that.

Japan really like RPGs japan players also have bad tastes. The gameboy was more then a Pokemon machine

Like the result of that would be any different here.

No. I loved it, making their hostility all the more infuriating. They're just upset because it takes place in America and has an entirely new cast without the Parisian or Japanese troupes.

It was 100% everything you could want from a Sakura Wars game, through and through.

The general story I read/hear about the Sonic series' reputation in Japan is that it's never been popular there, due to how much the character / franchise is specifically styled to appeal to Western audiences.

With that said, seeing Sonic 1 at #1 for the Sega Genesis and Sonic Adventure at #3 for the Sega Dreamcast is rather surprising IMO. The lack of LttP and DKC games for the SNES is a bit startling as well.

Weird how low the overall DS votes are.
Also, everything was RPG

Did they sample a single highschool? WTF is with those vote counts? I feel like you could poll the lurkers of a Wario64 thread and get higher numbers.
They're not sampling anything. It's open to any reader to cast their votes.

They are bigger numbers than our community would generate. I'm always wary of polls like this though since its fairly easy to get a campaign going for some less known title if a fanbase is dedicated enough.

V being the most fondly remembered FF on SNES makes me happy.

I think that FF6 is only considered a peak of the series in the west. There was a Finak Fantasy specific poll in the past and FFX was in first place. This poll sort of supports that looking at the ps2 list.

Nier #1 for PS3?

Well deserved. Best game of that generation.

Also nice to see all that SMT representation, though I was disappointed the lack of Shin Megami Tensei 3, Raidou and Digital Devil Saga on PS2 poll. And lack of FFXII.

EDIT: It seems like a lot of the games on these lists are normally deemed "cult classics" like SaGa Frontier on PSX and Panzer Dragoon Orta & Otogi on Xbox. Nice to see great and underrated games like that making rep.

Nier wins PS3!

Drakengard sneaks in at 10 on PS2 list.

Yoko Taro has got to be incredibly happy about that, I really can't imagine he'd expect his work to ranked so highly!
