I can't begin to imagine what all those drops could be. I've seen 200 person offices with less drops! Haha. That is going to be a wired as fuck house. Good job! Here I was proud of my 15 Ethernet drops in my place.

Anyone know some good velcro strips/tape to use for putting up Acoustic Foam on my wall? Want to avoid adhesive spray so if I take them down the wall/foam won't be ruined.

I would suggest sending a tweet to My Life in Gaming. They use acoustic foam, and might have some good recommendations ;)

Posted my setup a few months ago, which was full of wood paneled ugliness. Got sick of looking at it this weekend and its looking great. 10 systems currrently hooked up with more on the way.

Dude. I'm painting a paneled room in my house today. Did you use TSP and then primer? I TSP'd it yesterday.

How was the paint process? Pointers?

Is your paneling wood stained? If so, use Killz as a primer. If it's already painted then you're good to just paint with roller/brush. Most paints these days are primer based anyway, but there's a chance that if the paneling is wood the grain and knots could still show thru several coats of paint if you don't use Kilz.

Edit: Just realized that TSP may provide the same prime as Kilz. Not 100% sure on that.

TSP is the cleaner. Using a primer first and then the paint. I'll post pics when I'm done with the paint and a little woodwork I'm having done.

It gets the job done, I play games at my desks. The first one is my computer desk. The second one has turned into my console desk, it used to be my school desk in high school....and also kind of becomes a throw random shit on desk when I'm not playing any console games.

This is my parents home setup though as well, college setup is a bit different.

I didn't use TSP, although that's not a bad idea. I just scuffed up the wall using 100 grit sandpaper, cleaned the wall with soap and water, used Kilz primer and was able to paint it in one coat with Behr Ultra Plus primer and paint in one. Super easy, the teardown and setup of my systems took longer than the painting. I also installed a cord concealer that i bought from Ikea for $5 and painted over it.

Turned out much better than I was expecting. New flooring is next on the list, but will have to wait a few months.

For comparisons sake, this is what it looked like before.

Hey guys! I just moved into a new apartment and will post setup pictures soon. I would love to get some advice regarding a room I am struggling with.

This is the main problem area. My "dining room" shown here:

I am not sure what to do. In my previous apartment, I didn't have a breakfast bar area like I do now. I did have a dining table, but I rarely sat at it. I always prefer bar seating. I ended up selling it, but I am unsure of what to do in this new space. I do have seating for two to eat which is enough for me.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do for this space? These are my ideas:

1) Get a small kitchen table (30x30) which is enough to seat two people. I was considering mounting the mirror horizontally behind it would overwhelm the table because it would be so much smaller than the mirror (it would be almost double the width). I would be fine with keeping the mirror like it is and then maybe putting a piece of artwork behind the kitchen table.

2) Leave the mirror how it is and get a dining storage option. Something like this:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00117024/

The problem is I am unsure what I would actually fill it with. I feel like I am more interested in it just to occupy the space which is really against my minimal approach. I could put some artwork and such above it as well to fill in the wall.

3) I could hang the mirror on the wall and then put something on the wall that it is currently leaning against. Maybe a plant or some kind of seating.

I would totally be open to any other ideas as well. Thanks guys!

New year, new set-up.

A man after my own heart. I have the American version of the Halo 2 chiefy in my setup (yes, that's what we call him). I also have bookshelves full of the Halo related swag I've collected over the years. Your setup is wonderful, and is the only other one I've seen on Gaf that is so Halo centric.

Note: you can find pics of my setup in page one of this thread here.

That is a beautiful TV! What model is it?
It's a LG EG920v or LG EG9200 if you're in the US.

It costed a good penny but the picture is amazing.

Hey :)

I've never came up with a name for him. I just called him my dancing partner when people asked. Thankfully my girlfriend doesn't mind me having a 2+ meter statue of "that doll" as she calls it.

That's a nice setup you've got there, like the posters on the wall and the way the H5 statue is split across the room. Plenty of space as well.

Well if you're fine with bar seating and don't anticipate having a large number of guests over on a fairly regular basis then I would scrap the idea of getting a small kitchen table.

If you wanted to get a small storage bench, you could put the mirror on the wall perpendicular to it. Do you have more images of your space we could see?

I'm trying to rework on my room, because right now it has no identity, and when some friends come to my house, there is where we stay, playing card games and video games...

The main problem is that it's my bedroom too, so I'm trying to figure out a way to make it confortable and still make it look great for gaming and all!

I don't have much money right now, and my major problem is the color of the walls, kind dark blue... (great to sleep =D) and the light is really dark, making it hard to play card games at night...

Just revamped my PC with a 1080 and a new watercooling loop:

Smooth and clean. Grats on the 1080! Mind linking the wallpaper?

Custom watercooling always scares the crap oout of me, but always looks damn cool. But I hear it has a lot of maintenance to worry about.

Just curious (and certainly not belittling anyone who does it), but why do so many people put their PC towers on their desk? Is it an aesthetic thing? Or is it more of a functional reason, such as you don't want to run the risk of kicking it if placed underneath, or that it's easier to see inside in case something starts to go wrong?

I've seen it more and more over the past few years and, as someone who likes a clean desk, I've often wondered why.

I do it because it collects a lot less dust up on my desk. When it's near the floor and if you have carpet it's a nightmare.

Aesthetics. I spend a lot of time making the inside of my case look nice, I like to be able to look at it :)

More visually appealing if you have a case with a window. Also, my son likes to play with the power button if left on the floor.

i do it because i have a cat and lots of dust in the basement. so taking the pc off the floor prevents faster dust and hair accumulation. my case has a PSU filter and front filter and once a month i remove then and they are filled with dust that could have been in my pc instead.

A bit of a random question, but how do you all keep dust from invading your spaces/setups? My apartment has carpeting in the room where my TV & PC reside and taming the dust is the worst, even with an air purifier.

Death, taxes and.. dust. There will always be dust :(

I just keep a microfiber cloth handy and clean up while I'm watching sports or whatever.

Same. I usually wipe stuff down every week.

Anyway, I've been planning for my new place. I have some pretty big ideas for home lighting involving live TV sport events + various team colors + voice control (with Phillips Hue and Amazon Echo) so I'm looking forward to finally getting everything set up.

Love the industrial look. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it!

It's dust for me. I went from blowing out my computer once every two weeks (carpet + dogs) to needing to do so every few months.

This is where I spend most of my time working and playing.

I have the PC, X1, PS4, PS3, 360, PSTV all connected up the monitors. The sound is a Logitech Z506, which is great except for the RCA input. The video is running through a HDMI switcher, and I need a better solution than hooking up a 3.5mm cable to the X1/PS4 controllers.

I tried hooking up a spare receiver (Denon AVR-589) to use optical, but I couldn't get it to work. I'm not sure if the cables I have are bad, or the optical port on the receiver is bad. It also takes up too much room.

Looking for suggestions to improve anything. And yes, I know I have a lot of stuff on my desk. It sucks not having a dedicated home office room.

I also can't find a ton of inspiration looking online. I don't know if not that many people have consoles at their computer or what.

EDIT - realized my Acer H236HLs don't have speakers, but do have HDMI audio passthrough via a 3.5mm connection. Problem solved.

so my other half and I just bought a house.
I get a new study! Woo!

I'm going to build myself a desk unit. Here's my plan - anybody got any thoughts or suggestions?

Depending on which direction the window is facing, make sure that the blinds are able to keep the light out, otherwise you'll grow mad :)

Also, which program did you use to draw?

Glad you figured out an audio solution! I like your setup, it reminds me of my own setup about 6 years ago in a different house. I had my PC, 360 and PS4 all at my computer desk running on a 22" monitor (it was the only 'HD' display I had at the time). I had several special-order cables and switches to make it all come together, since the monitor didn't even accept HDMI inputs. It was a little stacked but it sure was gaming paradise!

As for limited space, I just recommend trying to put away as much stuff as possible, even if you think you need it. I see you have a bookshelf by your desk, maybe get a cheap organizer cube from Target and drop all of your controllers in there rather than on your desk. If you have space for a second cube add even more stuff. Try to get down to just the essentials of monitor, speakers, keyboard/mouse, and maybe one controller for the system you're currently playing. Then you can have room for one really solid display piece, and maybe add in a plant and an attractive desk lamp. Thanks for sharing your setup!

Just revamped my PC with a 1080 and a new watercooling loop:

Is that a Fractal R4..? That case always appears to be small in photos but the dimensions are on-par with my Antec 900, which is a hideous, stupidly big looking case. Maybe the aesthetics just work better because I've been contemplating the switch.

It's a Define Nano S, IIRC.

It's actually a Fractal Nano S, the mITX version of the R4/R5. Which explains why it's so tiny :)

So me and my missus are moving into an apartment and I'm looking for a new chair & desk.

I have an FT02 case and two 22" monitors...

So far I have these two on my list but recommendations are always useful!

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S09006390/#/S79006396 - Ikea Bekant

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20103101/#/20103101 - Ikea Markus

The price of the desk could be better but that's about my maximum budget for one and the chair could be better if the desk was cheaper.
