Final Fantasy XV european boxart revealed

That dream has been dead for a long time, Eidos killed the traditional covers when they were bought out and took over Square Enix Europe.

This company is a fucking disease.First they killed Core Design, ruined Tomb Raider by making it a stupid generic TPS, and now they are influencing Square Enix on their decisions regarding their IPs.I'm also suspecting that the reason why FFXV's characters were westernized was due to feedback from Eidos.

imo, should be just a logo on white background, like previous entries

Can we put in the OP that the game has a reversible cover art? And that most definitely will be the classic one.

Where does it say that? It was confirmed that the fame would have a reversible cover art for Japan, but I'm not sure if it was confirmed for the west too. (By the way, how does a reversible cover work for a steelbox?)

I actually would have liked a black (instead of white) blank background with the logo.

The cover we've been given is alright. I like it way more than the US boxart at least.

And with "all" he seemed to mean just the regular edition. How would you reverse a steelbook cover?

Usually steelbooks editions also have the regular case?
At least those that come in boxes like this one.
I found that to be the very rare exception, at least in Europe. That mostly happens with retailer exclusive steelbooks.

At first glance, i thought it looks terrible. Then i realize the awful green colour was one of the chief culprits.

All in all, i much prefer the classy covers from the past. Not a fan of the generic western fantasy king design.

I prefer the European box art. Not a fan of the artwork for the NA which doesn't even fit the game IMO. Even if it's a part of the series legacy.

The reason they're not using the logo on white background design is because the whole theme of the game is black/night/death/etc. Remember the game originally started as Versus XIII which was purposely different than the mainline entries and also was an alternative to FFXIII whose theme was white.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
So what's the Steelbook like?, that looks like a box steelbook will be different right?

I'm with team nope on this one. It's a beautiful picture, but I'm just unsure how marketing the game's cover like that would have it appeal to a mass audience.

Ugh... I'm kind of tired of seeing that art. It always reminds me of the Dawn trailer, which was bad.
I hope the Day One edition (or the regular edition) have different art. That's the one I pre-ordered, because I didn't like the art of the deluxe edition either (it looks very messy). If the day one art ends up sucking too, though, then I guess I'll get myself the deluxe edition instead.

I know that the traditional logo on white cover is reversible, but reversible covers never have the platform at the top, back cover text, and all that. It just doesn't fit with the rest of my game collection that way.
In a previous thread I posted this, which I'd made in about 10 minutes:
Like a lot of people, I just want this instead.

I'd say the "Daddy" boxset has zero "randomly pick up in the store" potential. I mean, it's still Final Fantasy in name so it won't matter too much but for a game about 4 bros on a roadtrip, they're really pushing the Dad stuff.

Reminds me of FFX where they marketed the whole Yuna/Tidus romance instead of the actual plot.

It's the Internet. Every topic has got to have copious amounts of complaining first.

Edit: Also no one else will read your post. Just knee jerk their own responses the op picture.

Both designs are nice but I still prefer the traditional box art design.

I'm definitely reversing my cover.

As a dad, I'd say you're wrong. I don't know that it's the best way to market the game, but it's a nice image, and is going to have resonance for some parents who grew up playing FF.

And 4 bros on a roadtrip and "daddy issues" (whatever that means in this context -- Noctis seems to have a nice relationship with his dad -- the "issues" are very likely that his dad dies, and Noctis has to figure out how to fill his shoes) both fit nicely into a coming of age framework, so I don't see any inherent incompatibility.

"daddy issues" lol
explain these "daddy issues" that they've been pushing. The issue
that he probably dies?

Fixed. Not sure why I wrote daddy issues, just meant Dad Stuff lol.

Fair enough -- fwiw, I think they're currently pushing that in the marketing to try and counter the earlier idea that the game is just about early 20 something bros bro-ing out.

Just part of their continuing attempts to assuage both newer and older fans of the series. We'll see how well they pull it off in the actual game, but I think this is a fairly reasonable narrative direction to try and thread that needle.

The only special edition with a steelbook I have ever bought is FFXIII-2 and it had the regular case too.
The special edition I bought off Amazon.de (that is the limited edition posted earlier, not the biggest one) came only with the regular case. You had to buy the steelbook separately.

Ugh.... what?

You pay more for the top box and get an uglier box? Isn't the point of collector's editions to have something you'd like to look at?

They did the same thing with the FFXII collector's edition, I own a sealed copy but it's not in my display case because it's not worth the shelf space.

That white cover is what I need. Sigh.

One recent example I can give you is Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water. It came with a steel case and regular case.

I actually preordered the game today, but seemingly they can't guarantee me that they are receiving the Deluxe edition.. .

That's a horrible box art, thank Amano for the Deluxe edition.

Although I just buy digital now, so it doesn't matter much to me how are the box arts anymore.

That's how ow Nintendo does it usually. It's definitely not always the case especially with SE

The Star Ocean Limited Edition only has the Steelbook for example

As a piece of concept art it's beautiful but I don't think it works well as a boxart. The Japanese one with the 4 bros walking is better suited.
