Hayley Atwell disaproves of Captain America's "kiss" in Civil War

Hayley Atwell does not approve of that Civil War kiss either

Like most human beings who saw Captain America: Civil War, Hayley Atwell was less than thrilled with that super awkward kiss between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and his nominal love interest Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), great-niece of Cap’s former flame Peggy Carter. Atwell has some authority on the matter, given that she played Peggy in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and on her own TV show—at least before she was killed off in one and cancelled on the other. When asked during a recent Dallas Comic Con how Peggy would’ve reacted to the kiss, Atwell explained:

Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave. She’d be like “no.” And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.

IGN is careful to note Atwell was smiling as she ribbed the movie, but she went on to add:

I just feel that, you know—I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, “don’t touch that.” You can’t tap that!

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Sebastian Stan really does look a lot like Mark Hamill

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I agree with her. Why would you get with your old old old old old old old and dead flame's niece? Like really, Steve? Let the black-guy-who-name-is-escaping-me-right-now have that, dude. Worry about Bucky, man.

This would be about a thousand times more interesting and better recieved than hydra cap.

But yeah, the scene was forced, awkward, uncharacteristic of steve and overall unpleasant, only saved by falcon and bucky giving him the nod.

He should have kissed Winter Soldier.

This would also made more sense than steve being okay with kissing his former girlfriend's grand daughter.

It's easier to shallow that he would come out as gay for a person he had loved since he was a child than instantly going for a younger version of his literally just deceased girlfriend.

If Sharon was in the movies for more than five minutes, I would be more supportive of the relationship. She feels like she was just thrown in the movies so Cap can have another love interest. They didn't develop her much beyond that she is in SHIELD and related to Peggy.

And yet I swore Hayley said if she could be any character she would want to be Sharon. Kind of bothers me that she's putting down Sharon, yet keeps going on about how much of a feminist character Peggy is. Hayley you had two seasons of a show dedicated to your character, Emily's had maybe twenty or twenty five minutes worth of screentime altogether. Plus Peggy before the MCU was pretty much just there as a connection to Steve's past in the comics, never important with the focus on Sharon.

Does she really think Peggy would actually be like that to her own grand-niece? Be salty because she can't climb Steve. Peggy moved on to have a family, god forbid Steve does the same.

???

Literally the first I've heard of anyone complaining about it.
Some people read (Steve/Bucky fans mostly) think that Sharon is literally just there so Steve isn't gay, ignoring the fact that you know, Sharon is his main comic love interest.

I love that AV designated itself the spokesperson for "most human beings." I've read feedback about the movie. I've seen it with three different groups of people. I had no idea displeasure with that kiss was a widespread thing at all, and I have a tough time believing that's the case.

Hahaha my boyfriend was so angry about it. He's gonna love this.

I'm okay with Steve moving on but I don't know how you move on from the perfection that is Hayley Atwell.

Disagree, the problem is, in the MCU, it was too early for them to kiss, they have barely interacted, just a few scenes in Winter Soldier, and in that very same movie, Steve is shown to be constantly visiting Peggy, from what we saw in the movies, Peggy was still Steve's love interest.

Then comes Civil War, Peggy dies and a little time later he kisses Sharon? A woman he has not had enough time to develop a relationship with? After Peggy died? it feels unnatural and forced, a kiss would have made sense for an hypothetical 4th CA movie, where they could potentially develop their relationship, "but it's his girlfriend in the comics" doesn't mean anything if we haven't seen that relationship blossom in the movies.

MCU ain't the comics.
I know, but some people actually had no idea the two are a thing in the comics.

That's sort of the one thing that bothered me despite loving the Cap movies. Cap 2 was great but I always kept getting the vibe that during early developments Sharon was meant to take Nat's role. Then they promised Sharon would be bigger in Cap 3 but of course they then announced Cap 3 was gonna be Civil War.

Probably a bit easy when she's ninety years old with bad special effects make up.

This is so annoying. Isn't it okay for characters to be straight, and isn't it okay for characters to be gay. Why must people clamor for characters to be one or the other? Just to make a social statement?

Guy love no homo is okay, ya know

What is this? Some girls have sex on the first date... Whats wrong with a little kiss? This isn't a romance movie...

I'd just compare every other gal to her and they don't stack up. It'd be unfair.

I just want to be Hayley Atwell tbqh.

While she has an amazing body, I can detect crazy eyes off of her.

To be fair I don't have a hard time imagining a woman wanting to kiss Chris Evans/Steve Rogers a few minutes after meeting him. Sharon can get it.

Nonsexual love among men exists.

Platonic male love is totally okay.

Saying no homo usually ain't though so might wanna swap that.

I would've been down for Cap/Bucky but then I also fan girl over Xavier/Mags so I'm not in anyway unbiased.

That said Sharon Carter is my second favorite character in Civil War so I was happy if Cap went for her or Bucky.

Cap and Sharon have "sparks" in Winter Soldier, which took place a couple years before Civil War. When they actually do kiss, Cap is like "sorry that took so long", because those two have known each other and danced around those feelings for a while.

We didn't really see that develop on screen, sure, but we didn't see Natasha/Banner develop on screen either.
