I'm really excited for this.

I stopped playing the original game after getting a quarter of the way through it when it first came out because it just didn't grab me. I went back to it a couple of months ago and delved a little more into the hacking and some of the side activities and realised there's some really solid gameplay there, once you get past the dreadful story and Aiden being an all-around awful character. I did eventually give up on the side missions though, because, in typical Ubi fashion, there was just way too much to bother with.

Watching the videos, they seem to have taken a lot of the criticism into advisement and are working to remedy some of the faults of the first game, so I'm really excited to see how it turns out. Not to mention, SF looks freaking gorgeous.

I can't believe they had a character trailer and dude doesn't even have one single line of dialogue to show off his personality.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
On one hand I like the idea of parkour around an open sandbox environment, because that always sounds neat.

On the other hand the whole edgy (their word, not mine) elite punk hacker cr3w aesthetic is so grotesquely inauthentic and unappealing to me I'm already utterly disinterested in the "world". It's a subjective thing of course, probably generational, but yeah. It's just so faux punk, faux rebel to me.

Yeah it's a shame every character in a game has to be kind of a douchebag. Overly cocky and confident in themselves, have silly one liners etc. I'd like to play as a character who you actually can empathise with. Like someone perhaps a little bit gentler, or more emotional, someone you can actually like and get invested in playing as, and being emotionally affected should something bad happen to them. Not sure why so many games have such bland (always white male 20-30's) protagonists. I just think that characters like Alan Wake, Heavy Rain guy, Aiden in WD1, Quantum Break dude and all these other games all just blur into one lol. At least WD2 guy is something different. But yeah I hope he's not a cocksure dickhead like so many others.

There is a 17 minute video that includes gameplay. The trailer is prerendered.

Some people are wary because the original watchdog video that's making the downgrade rounds these days "included gameplay" too, but everything was set up to a level of detail that's not attainable in the released game.

Yup, the gameplay looks great but the whole "culture" doesnt appeal to me.
I guess we're simply not their target demographic which is ok.

They showed off the first one way too early, though. This one releases this fall.

Your playing a different game if you think GTAV has great gunplay. At best it was serviceable but in no way was it better than Watch Dogs. The last thing you want to do in any GTA is get into a heavy gunfight.

right, almost every gun fight in GTA is spraying and playing lol and its not even a knock to the game just how fast and loose it is. Watch Dogs gunplay was really not one of its failings, also getting in and out of cover was really great as well. Cover in GTA used to piss me off so much at times.

I must be playing a different game because I find GTA's gunplay extremely solid and versatile. The cover system is even better because I can have tp mode, while fps as I'm roaming on foot. The only thing that needs improvement is the jumping. You can't strafe jump. It's only a one direction motion.

That's actually something that buggued me as well .Hopefully they will have another trailer during E3 week to correct this mistake

Game looks vastly better than its predecessor but what's with the aesthetic? Have these Ubisoft guys ever been on the internet before cos it don't look like that. Looking like a square as fuck headteacher's approximation of 'hip'

But like, bwam bwam bwam, bzzt bzzt bzzt, wub wub wub, bram bram bram, unce unce unce, amiright?
Again, I love this art. Yes, "log out of society" is "edgy," or as many would probably say "cringey" as fuck and it's perfect for it.

Well at least they were paying attention (via Gamespot).

This is all an effort to make the world of Watch Dogs 2 more interesting than the Chicago of its predecessor, which often felt lifeless and tepid, holding the promise of possibilities but rarely following through. Senior producer Dominic Guay said this was one of the main takeaways the team had from the first project. Guay himself spent countless hours poring over Neogaf forums, looking for player feedback, and in the aftermath, he and the team knew they had to make a more believable environment.

lol i have some stuff on my laptop... a band sticker (Streetlight Manifesto) and a personal design... (C9)
lbKd7Qb.png

The stuff on his would be better if it was some band shit, or just random tagging artwork... rather than.. "I AM A HACKERZ LOOK! LOOK AT ME! I AM HACKING!"

I think an in your face attitude is possible here because it makes so little sense to advertise yourself as a hacker, that having a hacker sticker on your laptop should tell one nothing about the hacker status of someone.

Why aren't they saying the protagonist is black? Seems like they're avoiding just straight up saying it. Didn't really care for the first WD but since this is set in San Fran and has a black protagonist I'm interested.

Maybe should feature that on the box art:
"Featuring a black protagonist as opposed to a white one."

I find it so adequate that they don't talk about it, that's how this needs to be addressed, as in, not specifically addressed at all. It shouldn't be a big deal.

It actually changes nothing for me, buy I can understand the excitement of some people here, though.

Have they announced what color the protagonist is in other games? Like what color is the protagonist in The Last Guardian? I don't understand this. I think it great that they don't have to say anything about this. It shouldn't be an issue.

I get where you're coming from, in an ideal society a POC protagonist would be treated with the same indifference a white protagonist is. Unfortunately we just aren't there yet. Greater representation for POCs should be flagged up for the positive step in the right direction it is.

Why on Earth is that something they need to say? It's illustrated in the visuals. Why would they need to make a point of stopping and making a big deal about him being black? Maybe they're not avoiding it, but simply not saying something that doesn't need to be said.

Perfectly put.

Alan Wake doesn't really belong in that?

After watching the 18 minute video:

+ Good on them making a long premiere video before E3, I think this game gets a slice of undivided attention before many games are being talked about.

+ Controllable drones look pretty cool to control.

+ New parkour mechanics look pretty fun.

- I can see where they tried to improve on the protagonist compared to Aiden, but so far not feeling the new guy. Maybe I need to see his customization options or more of his melee weapon or something. On the surface, protag and his group just seem like a band of underage douchebag hipsters. Maybe it's because they don't show him speak? Myabe because that's what they were going for? Good on them for going a completely different direction than what Aiden was, but need to see more to form a more solid opinion.

- With GTA V already taking place in California, kind of disappointed this game is in the same place. Guess it should be expected, but I would've been much more interested if it were a different area.

- Don't see how hacking is a big difference from the previous game, just an option to hack an entire group of people around you rather than what the game selected, and able to hack construction machines/cars. Not necessarily a horrible thing to keep most of the hacking the same, it felt pretty good in the first game, but not seeing much improvement yet.

- Did they intentionally not show much driving in this video? Driving is still one of my biggest gripes with the original game.

As a fan of the original game despite all of it's flaws, it'll be interesting to see how this one ends up coming together this November. Not hyped, but it has my attention.

I think this could be really fun of it doesn't take itself too seriously. Having a bit of levity would go a long way.

It seems like they're not taking it too seriously this time around.

The "edge" also seems to have a nice healthy dose of self-awareness, which could work for them. It's rare to see edgey stuff done right, especially in games.

I also find their douchey hipster-hacker (hackster?) personas somewhat charming. As long as they're not dropping swears every other word and acting like idiots I think it'll be fine.

If they're fully committed to the douchey Bay area techie look then they should have a pre order edition that features an "Iconic" vape pen

how do you get that impression at all? seems to be self-serious to me

"Congrats on your $199,- CE San Francisco Edition, please now buy the Season Pass that is included in the cheaper gold edition".

As to the game itself, mildly optimistic. Hopeful that it is a AC1 -> AC2 scenario.

i still cant believe the tools at ubisoft actually modeled the main character after kanye west. i can just visualize the board meeting

"hey guys lets make our main character black, that will really resonate with the cool, hip crowd!"

"ok, what do black people look/act like?"

"i dont know" *turns on BET* "hmm who is this kanye west person, he seems really outspoken and 90% of the shit he says is hella dumb and makes little to no sense. HES PERFECT!"

Huh?

He doesn't look anything like Kanye West.
