Wait, wait... so for those not as in the know.... This new show takes place after the prior show's ending? Um... the little preview didn't look as... horrific as I would expect if that is the case.

Yeeeeeesss!!

Can I jump right in to this, I've only ever seen the anime.

The preview looks liked it mixed in a bit of the Black Swordsman Arc (skeletons in the forrest scene) and scenes from the first half of the arc that comes directly after where the prior show/ movies left off. I would say that since Puck is indeed included that if you're only coming off of the late 90s show you're missing out on a few key details. Specifically the S
kull knight
which I have no doubt will play a role in the new series, and if they do skip the Golden Age arc (which they should) you should probably use the films or better yet the manga to freshen up on the story. Although the best adaptation so far there is a lot that the 90s show left off that will probably raise a lot of questions if you come into this raw.

Why do they continue to push this CG crap? Sure it's easier to animate, but Berserk deserves better than that.

Berserk is a pretty long story and it might not have a big enough audience to support a fully realized 2d venture.

Yeah, if you've only seen the anime, it looks like this will directly follow the movies, which showed the immediate aftermath of the Eclipse and introduced some key characters that were left out of the anime in favor of better Band of the Hawk character development.

Yeah the non-CG parts in the movies honestly looked pretty good, I hope this series has more of that

This TV series is being done by completely different people than the Studio 4C movies.

It's not like CG animation is cheaper than 2D. But animating battle scenes between large armies is a difficult task, and very time-consuming in 2D. The 1997 Berserk anime is somewhat infamous for mainly using stills for its action. Most anime today that feature army battles use CG for them, as in Kingdom or Arslan Senki.

Which is why I love it so much. The still shots are exquisite and make you notice every small detail.

I just hope we make it to the end of the conviction arc. Sad we won't see
Schrieke or the Slan fight.
But I can live..

eh, the cgi+animation looks bad and it looks worse than the first teaser (guts slaying the skeletons) -__-
I think I'll pass, berserk didn't deserve this.

This is why I prefer half-assed 2-d animation over half-assed CGI. One can still look alright and people will call it a 'style' but the other will just look awful no matter how you look at it. This is like them looking at Valkyria Chronicles' artstyle and Guilty Gear Xrd's animation frames(how they chop them up to look more anime) and thinking 'this is easy, we can do it too'. Then you end up with PS2-esque CG effects.

But on the bright side if the budget gets cut and the CGI starts looking about 20% more shit, we can just pretend it's a Dark Souls anime.

It's actually impressive how each successive Berserk anime looks worse than the last despite the progression of animation technology.

I'm seriously pissed right now. The tv anime was good, but it left me disapointed because I expected better animation and lots of gore due to the name and some pictures of the show. After a lot of years when they finally announced the movies I was super happy and it made me read the manga (which is awesome) because of what I saw and read until then, but the movies wer disappointing as well (CGI and cut content) and now this... which makes, looks and sounds much worse than the previous one :(

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I was going to say the artwork looks decent then I watched the trailer. What the hell? I actually not that put off by the weird CGI "hand drawn" look but the animation in some parts is so fucking choppy and awkward, not too mention a lot of the character models look good straight on but from other directions look really off and weird. Guts looks fine in some shots but others it looks like he's got a huge over bite lol.

Maybe one day will get a Madhouse Berserk anime on par with One Punch Man.

He gonna cry in the car
For the love of god Madhouse PLZ

PLZ SAVE US FROM THIS FUCKING CGI

WHY DOES A MASTERPIECE LIKE BERSERK GET THIS?

WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR AN ANIME FOREVER

FUCK THIS

...Will still watch ;_;

Honestly! Even if you think it looks bad, at least be content we're getting an Anime.

I am but I'd love something like the Hunter X Hunter adaptation that covered a huge amount of the story and was consistently drawn through much of its run with some great animation, fights, VA work, etc. It will be nice to see Mozgus be a fucking whack job but I'd love to see it all do the original artwork some justice.

I think you all are being overly dramatic. It looks bad but honestly that should have been expected. I mean it's on par with the questionable budget on display on the second trailer.

I love that being 3d introduced a new low in budget saving animation tech - rotation on top of zooming and panning! The rotation when Gutts was sliding on the ground looked especially bad.

I'm still just as excited to watch it. As in very. Because I love Berserk and am used to not getting what I want on all fronts.

To be honest, I would rather like nothing than this piece of shit. It really looks horrible.

Gotta cram out my Berserk for the DC and play through that again...

"Getting nothing" is a very real threat as far as Berserk goes though. I bet you'd feel worse if you knew for a fact nothing would ever come.

The animation looks pretty crappy, but the content looks fine. If the direction is good and we get some great music, I really don't see the problem. I'll check it out, and if it sucks, at least we'll always have the manga.

Seriously what the fuck. The new poster looks rad as hell and then we get this?! I read a comment before saying the general public thinks any CG at all is cool, but I can't believe that... I guess nobody is complaining or they just don't give a fuck... So sad for this ....ill still watch but ...

There was Farnese on the horse. It's going to be interesting to see that, uh, animated (if we can call this animation).

Expected far worse, honestly.

Still would prefer wholly 2D but I also made peace that was never on the table to begin with.

Just happy for more Berserk.

I didn't think it looked that bad. As an ardent hater of CG these last few years have seen enough improvements that I'm starting to find it acceptable, though certainly preferable.

I started crying midway and the tears didn't allow me to watch it in detail. Seems on point though.

What is this shit? His chin is almost in his collar bone.

Fuck off you fuckers. At least draw him well.
I still can't believe Claymore got a better adaptation minus the last 4 episodes than Berserk.

Guts does look a little gaunt but the problem scenes look like weird camera angles or a mix of 2D/3D, which means how his face is rendered won't always be the same.

The other characters look perfect, though. And mixing CGI with the comic book line shading seems like it obscures some of the "PS2" look that the Golden Age movies had.
