It looks more like Bend's take on State Of Decay to me, which would include bunch of stuff I said they should've showed.

Could very well be. Maybe they should have showed more diversity, then again it is just a short time frame. They had to commit to certain features.

BTW: State of Decay 2 also looked very good at the Microsoft presser.

I am not interested in any of the options in the poll, so I was glad to see they weren't shown and time was instead spent on other things.

with games that are scheduled to release steadily over the second half of the year through the beginning of next.

This is what happens when you release 1 game (Quantum Break) from Dec 15 through to August 16.

Are you saying Sony should have held back all their games released this year and shat them out into the holidays?

Sony have TLG, NMS, Gravity Rush 2, GT Sport, I am Setsuna, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest builders for the rest of this year, and more im probably missing.

Great conference, the lineup was much more appealing to me than Microsoft's. Spiderman looks great, was surprised and excited seeing the Insomniac logo. Horizon looked great. Not so sure about GOW reboot, it looked stunning but the gameplay looked way too diferent, it reminds me of the new TR games... Days Gone looked pretty generic, the new QB game looked intriguing tho. I was shocked at the new COD game, probably the first COD game I would like to try. Overall, I think Sony did a great job this year.

It was getting too late yesterday so I saw this today, thankfully I avoided spoilers.

Overall a solid presentation, not much PR talk and just games after games which was nice:

- God of War looks awesome IMO. Cool graphics, Kratos seems to have calmed down a bit which is nice and the gameplay looks interesting. Can't wait to see more

- Days Gone looks... way too similar to The Last of Us. Gameplay seems to have an added focus on large groups which looks fun but the tone and setting remind me way too much to TLOU.

- Crash was almost FFVII PC port tier of bad. A remaster that they didn't even show and him appearing in Skylanders (looking like dude in crash suit)

- Horizon keeps looking fantastic

- That game by Kojima seems interesting in style. But is clearly several years away.

- I'm not the biggest fan of Quantic Dream. But if their game really has that level of variation based on your choices (and it's consisten through the game and not just 2-3 key scenes) then it might be interesting

- The Last Guardian comming this year confirmed, awesome :D

For all the where's rockstar's? never at e3

But they did let Sony announcr GTAV for current gen two years ago. It was a possibility that Red Dead 3 would be announced, but it's clear they will do it the old fashioned way. Announce it on the internet with a trailer, sites will crash etc.

Why oh why was I impressed with that CoD Infinite Warfare gameplay. It's been years since I've played a CoD game, and when i last did I got bored of it very quickly.

That gameplay demo looked like a blast to play.

Having Kojima come out and show a teaser for his game was great for a "wow" moment but honestly I think it would have been better to leave that out.

That game probably doesn't really exist yet and is 3 or 4 years from releasing. Why show it now?
They're still deciding on what engine to use for the game. That game is a long, long, way off.

I know, makes me almost want to buy it...

This was probably sony's strongest e3 presser since they have been in the business. Games, after games, after games, after games... and without the power point presentation of sales of the platforms. Sony understands what the fanbase wants, and they showed off games throughout the whole presser.

9/10.

God of war looks awesome. It's looks and feel like a whole different game with the setting and having a resident evil 4 / last of us vibe. Detroit looks promising, resident evil 7 looks like it's going back to it's roots and I'm actually surprised how many games are going to be released for VR. The game that really brought a huge smile to my face was seeing spiderman being developed by insomniac. Talk about a match made in heaven!

Bravo sony, thank you for not announcing any new hardware and letting the games be the star of the show this year.

I thought Sony's conference was mehhhh.

No release dates for 8 out of 10 games. I'll pick up The Last Guardian this year and maybe No Man's Sky but that;s it.

I was much more impressed with Microsoft's show, many of the games they showcased are playable this year and that Scorpio monster at the end stole the show.

Hiring Drive. Thats why it was given such a large stage. Occasionally, devs will announce a game that is a ways off specifically to entice talent into submitting resumes. This is one of those occasions. Destiny did this. Cyberpunk 2077 did this.

Funny that PlayStation Experience was better. Sony is spreading themselves out with the conferences keynotes.

THhis, i think they're tailoring it to the audience, using E3 for the big games they want to push in the mainstream, then using the other events to cater to their more niche audiences.

I guess thats why there was no Indie segment, no Boyes or Gio on stage doing their bits, they'll be up in PSA and GC/PGW.

Solid Conference.
3Games i had absolutlely no interest before the Conference:
God of War
Spiderman and
Call of Duty.
And guess what? I´m hyped to the maximum now for these Games. That was the biggest surprise for me.
I´m happily looking forward to pilot my X-Wing in VR and RE7 VR just blew me away.

So all those games you can't play this year are a negative but an upgraded console not being released for over 12 months stole the show?

Not really getting the impression from anyone that MS simply confirming the rumors that it was working on an upgraded Xbox, much like Sony, with no further details "stole the show". If anything it seemed like a premature announcement.

You can buy the Scorpio right now, it will play all those Xbox exclusives you saw in the conference. It's called an Alienware PC, enjoy.

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion but sometimes I really wonder if this is real life.

Sure. I honestly didn't care for most of the exclusive games shown--Last Guardian, Horizon, Spider-Man PS4, Crash remasters, etc.

People have different tastes. Accept it.

Nobody knows it yet, but i wonder about that too. I also wonder if it will release at all this year. Those VR games were on current PS4, right? Maybe they can do without Neo for VR for now.

Neo is launching this year. $399. Tons of devs got kits, fall games are currently going to be supporting it. You'll be hearing about all this towards August/Sept. The Neo + VR combo is probably going to launch at the end of next year, when they introduce their VR-centric controller that they've been working on.

Oh wow, by far the best presentation of E3. The other presentations were not even in the same league.

We get release dates for Horizon, The Last Guardian, Resident Evil 7

We also got tons of new development releases and know what is coming down the line. Including God of War and a new Kojima game.

That's how a press conference should be. And they didn't even have time to properly show Gravity Rush 2 or Persona 5..

Simply wow, that was definitely a conference for the gamer!

That was a tight conference, with game after game after game, I like this new approach, not overly long like past conferences and the games looked great.

God of War - Massive change to the formula and I'm loving it, it looks great.

Days Gone - Got The Last if Us vibes and love the zombie hordes, not just another standard zombie game

Horizon Zero Dawn - Possibly game of the show again for me, it just looks amazing and gave me Witcher from this new demo.

The Last Guardian - Still looking amazing and finally a release date.

Resident Evil 7 - Full VR start to end, thats a big one for Sony and PSVR.

Spider-man - Looking really good, hopefully this one delivers. Insomniac and not Sucker Punch too, interesting.

Star Wars Battlefront VR - That should be a great experience.

Death Stranding - Kojima and Norman Reedus, should be a big game, wanting to know more now.

Worth staying up for, great show Sony.

Just rewatched the conference and I was still really impressed, great pacing, wasted very little time talking and when they did talk, the talkers were solid, Layden, in particular, has improved so much over the last few years.
They showed a bunch of new stuff, which range from great to good, nothing shown was really all that bad, some stuff weaker than others, but nothing that had me bored, probably down to nothing outstaying it's welcome.
And the orchestra, whoever decided to have that, is a genius, they were amazing playing the music for the demos, hopefully more of that in the future.

All in all was a great showing and easily the best of what I've watched (Bethesda's, half of Ubi's and most of MS') this year. I'd give it an 8/10 if I was to rate it.

I agree with you on the indies. I love those montage sections and trying to quickly decide whether a game is for me or not. As far as Destiny, I mean we all know it's coming but did expect a quick here's the ps exclusive gear.

I expected the normal Boyes segment with that stuff but well, didn't get that.

The indie segment are usually where we get to see new and interesting stuff so it bummed me out it wasn't here. Also, I like to see what indie games are coming to the platform at every conference.

This mostly seemed like just a trailer reel where most games wherent for me. Oh well.

Wasn't keen on that conference at all. Very tight conference mind.

Horizon (Yay, this looks amazing)
Resident Evil (doesn't look like much of anything to me, I mean there wasn't much in that demo really)
Detroit (Looks nice, but David Cage)
Spider-Man (Yes yes all of this in my mouth)
God Of War (I like my god of war, but that demo didn't look that great)
Virtual Reality (I don't like or care about virtual reality, so the fact they took so long on this really annoyed me)
The Last Guardian (It looks alright. I mean it looks nice, but gameplay wise, its up in the air innit)
Call Of Duty (Looks a lot different. Hardly looks like call of duty at all, I might even venture. But I've already pre ordered it, so what the hell do I know)
Days Gone (Looks boring, that demo wasn't running well neither. Granted, its still in relatively early stages, but hopefully it looks better next time we see it)
Death Stranding (Thats a Kojima game all right. I'll wait for gameplay to judge)

Is Square at E3 properly this year? I'm still waiting to hear about Rise Of The Tombraider for PS4.

Sony has been hosting indie events for devs throughout the year now instead of just E3. They work with a ton of indies (obviously), and have quite a few indie-sized projects they themselves publish. Just this year alone at PAX East we had quite a few indies showcase what they were working on alongside Playstation.

This E3 conference was about Sony finally openings its doors to their first-party efforts in a way that they haven't since the generation began. This was a 1st party focused event. But don't worry, they're doing a gamescom presser, TGS, & another PSX this year, so there will be plenty of press conferences to focus all their efforts on highlighting indies. 1 down; 3 more shows in the year to go for Sony.

Brilliant press conference. They totally tore it up. Sony really knows what they are doing with E3 at this point. No one else seems to understand how to do it half as well. Brilliant stuff.

To people saying there isn't much to the RE7 demo - understand that this demo is similar to PT, in that there are hidden puzzles currently being discovered by players that is meant to reveal 'something' about the game. No one has discovered the secrets of the demo. The game has a game over state that makes you think you've completed it, when you in fact haven't yet.

Yep I thought so too. He did a good job up there and the conference always felt like it was moving forward steadily.

I could really feel him reading from a script in the first years as well, and even though he of course still does, it came a lot more natural this time around.

Solid presser, but I personally didn't care for anything besides Horizon and Spider-Man...and maaaaaybe GoW.

Spider-Man I'd need to see some uncut gameplay before I go from "That looks cool" to "I want that". Can't really take much from GoW as that was basically prologue/tutorial level stuff they showed.

Capcom is pulling Kojima/Del Toro's Silent Hills move for their RE7. Who the hell saw that coming.

It's too bad they didn't spend some time on Japanese games like Ni No Kuni 2 or Ni-Oh and stuff like that. It all went by pretty fast only focusing on the really big hitters, with a smidget of more interesting stuff in a sizzle reel near the end.

Layden is such a boring presenter. No Shu, no Boyes, no Gio - this year was lacking in surprises and energy. The games shown were just...there and such a lack of Japanese games/surprise announcements when put against last year's conference was a real disappointment. No Gravity Rush 2, no Persona 5, no Nioh, no Shenmue, no Yakuza 0, no REmake 2 - I was expecting at least one of those, but nope we have to show generic zombie game no. 567. Only part I enjoyed was Kojima's announcement and trailer, that was it. i was expecting at least one segment for BuildingTheList (whatever happened to that? Retired it now or something?) or Tim Schafer to come out again with something.

Back to regular E3 again this year, I guess.

This isn't the only major press conference of the year, so I'm glad there's still more to see.

I admit I'm sad about Shu/Boyes, but it's clear Sony just wanted to try a different setup. Feck all talking, no fat, and a shorter run time than normal.

PSX will be forever shifting towards the "meet your favourite exec" going forward.

So Microsoft's was a hardware show and Sony's was a software show.

It was game after game after game...all orchestrated beautifully. The Kratos intro was special and it just didn't stop. No wonder the whole conference was shorter than usual.

I don't know about anybody else but I added most of the games to my basket.

Awesome job Sony.

This E3 has been really underwhelming in general for me, especially compared to last year with all of those crazy announcements. 2015 in general was just insane. They were never going to reach that, ever.

Time to address the predictions I made in the hype thread prior to E3...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=203889685&postcount=675

------------------------

- God of War 4 is there. The norse is real. Will begin the conference and the footage featured will be used to showcase the PS4K or whatever it's called now. Right on the money for everything apart from the PS4K part.
- PS4K details announced. Specs, price, release date (fall this year). I won't care though 'cos I don't like this iterative console horseshit one bit. They didn't even mention 4K once.
- VR gets a little attention, but nothing on the scale of PSX last year. No live demos, but expect montages. Bang on.
- A new Dreams demonstration, designed squarely to better explain to a wide audience what the hell it's all about. Nope. Dreams was nowhere to be seen.
- A very extravagant, showboaty FFXV trailer appears. No mention of FFVIIR at all during the entire conference. I wanted to see Aeris. :( There was a trailer, but it wasn't exactly showboaty. Was right about VIIR.
- Bend's new game Dead Don't Ride is unveiled. Follows your typical open-world AAA model to a tee. I'm not impressed. Bang on the money for everything apart from the name.
- Some Ubisoft dev presents some footage for the just-announced-at-Ubisoft's-presser Watch Dogs 2, coupled with timed-exclusive content and all that bullshit. Game looks hot though because it's one of the very few interesting things Ubi is working on. Sort of right, except this didn't happen at Sony's conference!
- More Horizon footage, this time deviating away from the familiar shoot-dinosaurs-in-a-field action into more unexpected territory. 2017 release window. More footage, but it was wholly similar to what we've seen before.
- Boyes strides on stage, whips out a big fat announcement in the form of Shenmue HD Collection. No sight of Shenmue III. Boyes was a no show! Wrong on all counts.
- Persona 5 gets a short trailer paired with a release date for US territories. Not even going to guess when it's coming out. You can tell I made this list a fair while ago.
- Indies.Nope! Unbelievable!
- The Capcom love affair continues despite SFV's tepid performance in the charts. Resident Evil 7 is unleashed upon the world. The die-hards complain that it looks too bombastic and isn't in the spirit of the earlier titles. They have every right to complain. Right about Resi7. Wrong about everything else.
- Surprisingly, there's no Destiny fart-huffing to be had this time around. Destiny's non-appearance makes Boyes look like a broken man as a result. (Expect a blow-out for the sequel next year though). Correct about everything not involving Boyes.
- Activision zzzz. Call of Duty zzzz. Timed-exclusive content zzzz. DLC announcement zzzz. A million tiny voices plead Sony to wrap it up. Yep. Not exactly a bold prediction though.
- The Last Guardian gets a new trailer that is very much on the lean side, with a specific release date tagged on at the end. Game remains shrouded in mystery. Correct.
- Japan Studio's big-budget JRPG is shown off. Looks glorious. Is a surprise highlight of the event. Eugh.
- Conference ends on Layden or House mentioning the 20th anniversary of a certain shorts-wearing marsupial. Segue into a trailer that mixes humorous cutscene footage and gameplay. Naughty Dog's logo appears at the end. Sony suit boasts that they now own the rights to Crash Bandicoot. BAM! Waaaaaay off the mark for so many reasons.

No sight nor sound of Gravity Rush 2it appeared in a montage at the end, GT Sportsame I think?, DetroitWrong! Detroit was there in full force or Ni no Kuni 2correct. No Sucker Punchcorrect, no Spidermanwrong. No Knack 2 (thank God)thank God is right. Ape Escape 4 is saved for TGSwe can only hope.

Lack of surprises, are you serious?

- God of War
- Kojima out of nowhere
- Resident Evil 7 out of nowhere
- Crash
- Days Gone
- TLG release date
- Spiderman

I'm not sure I've ever seen an open world narrative driven Sons of Anarchy-esque zombie game with a serious tone and that many enemies before. I think generic is a bad term to use, because that makes the false impression that this has been done well before.

But I'm curious about what you want. You say you're sad about a lack of surprises and then lament not seeing a bunch of games we've already seen before. Nothing surprising about checking in on previously announced games.

^I listed what I wanted. Those plus some crazy dormant game IP announcements like Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Siren, Mega Man, Fatal Frame, Final Fantasy Tactics - stuff like that rather than the usual AAA snorefests full of zombies. And where the heck was From Software?

Lack of surprises, are you serious?

- God of War
- Kojima out of nowhere
- Resident Evil 7 out of nowhere
- Crash
- Days Gone
- TLG release date
- Spiderman

God of Bore. Predictable as hell making a new one.
Kojima was good, yes
Resident Evil 7 that looks nothing like Resident Evil.
Crash? So shocking.
Generic zombie game no. 789. Shocking.
TLG release date, well it's only been a decade
Spiderman tie in with movie from Sony? Shocking.

None of those are anywhere near as surprising as FFVII remake, Shenmue 3, Yakuza 0 localization or The Last Guardian's reappearance.
