GT Sport E3 2016 Trailer

They haven't. The May showing was deliberately underwhelming to manage expectations. No wonder Kaz was in such a good mood. Trolling everybody the whole time.

Now that it's confirmed the game will be pretty like every other Gran Turismo hopefully the spotlight can be put back on the important stuff.

They really fucked up the reveal of this game, and it did real damage to the franchise. First impressions last.

This is like SE revealing PC to PS4 FF7 port then revealing FF7R a few months later.

Maybe it had something to do with the net code?
I mean, they deliberately chose to run an early build with rock solid (ish) net code so that the "tournament" could run without any hiccups?

There's a theory doing the rounds on GTP (which actually doesn't sound too farfetched) that the build we saw at the unveiling event was in fact the build that was intended to be used for the Beta.

Both these theories make a lot of sense, and could be the real why the beta was pulled without much notice. The latest media is absolutely beautiful, but let's not forget what was shown in London only last month - it looked bloody awful, and the negative comments were fully justified at the time. Releasing a public beta with that standard of material could have turned a lot of people off for good. The relatively closed nature of the Copper Box reveal meant that damage was limited, and the subsequent media proves that PD can still nail the visuals after all. There's simply no better-looking car game in development. It's a shame this latest stuff wasn't showcased in the E3 Sony presser, or at least given a little more prominence than a five-second clip at the very end.

So those gifs pretty much show how incredible this game would look with great IQ..Cmon PD you can do it.

I don't think it's just the IQ. It almost seems like the lighting model and post processing gets turned up a notch (or two). Replay mode looks very close to what the Driveclub trailers looked like

Do you think they cleaned them up a bit for the video?

GT replay mode was always a big step up from gameplay, so I don't doubt that they are actually pulling it off in realtime. The Driveclub trailers were all running in realtime on a PS4 too. There was just no way the gameplay would match that, especially in terms of IQ. GT seems to have more going on in replay mode than just better IQ. This was always the case, but it seems really pronounced this time around.

Also not sure if this was posted, but PD put up links to the E3 assets on their news page. Appears to be 1080/60 video of Northen Isle Speedway gameplay and a replay of the Nordschleife.

http://www.gran-turismo.com/us/news/00_4882315.html

After downloading these and watching via VLC on a decent PC I'm seeing frequent drops from 60fps and quite a bit of screen tearing. Is the problem at my end with my specs or media player? Is anyone getting fully v-synched 60fps or are the issues at source (yeah, I know - still in development)?

They're probably still working on upping the gameplay fidelity. Previous GT replays actually aren't all that different from the gameplay graphics outside of the addition of motion blur or DOF. I think it's a common misconception due to how well Polyphony sets up the replay angles to get the right lighting.

The gameplay in the video definitely doesn't look as nice as the replay though, but I don't think it's final either. If we blow up the replay and see all of the artifacts I don't think the lighting itself is undoable in gameplay given what Polyphony pulled off on PS3, and they also ditched dynamic time transitions this time to increase the visual quality.

I like that there are so many cars on the track.

I am well aware that A LOT of cars participate in a Project Cars race, but GT series always felt so limited when it came to that, so even 20 cars at the same time would be a huge improvement. Driving a 24h race on the Nordschleife for example against 7 opponents (or was it 11?, anyway, too less) always killed the immersion.

magnificent.

sounds have improved, too.

and it feels weightier than gt6, especially in the nurburgring clips.

new thread worthy.

Agreed. Many small (negative) threads were made during the reveal, so why not one for the improved graphics, sounds and new details?

And gifs, many gifs.

But we had 16 cars on track already on GT5? Or am I remembering wrong?

I don't understand why there is this general idea that "Sport" mode will be online only.
I don't recall ever hearing Kaz say anything like that.
I don't see why it can't be divided in a series of online and off-line events against AI, with the offline portion organized in a similar manner of old GT careers (probably more free-form?), but now indipendent from patent test, coffee breaks ecc that are instead under "Campaign"

In Sport Mode,” the online feature of Gran Turismo Sport, there will be two FIA-certified online championship series running at the same time.

Can confirm source has tearing and switches to 30fps for external replay angles.

The rear view mirror looks like it's using a reconstruction filter to eke out performance. Perhaps skipping the rendering of every other pixel using a checkerboard pattern, and then blending the result with the previous frame which used an inverse of the checkerboard. Next gen interlacing.

I think it was for certain events? I know they decreased the amount in GT6 (at least for the early events, I didn't get far enough into the game to know if they increased it later on).

I guess he wants to make you a better driver,

I feel since Kaz went down the real racing driver route the games have suffered. If he wants to be a racing driver or be in Motorsport then please leave GT games to someone else.

All i want is another game like GT4, which is before he started racing in Nurburgring and doing GT Academy etc.
Wasn't GT4 ending credit Kaz doing a Nurb lap is a 350z(or some other car from that family)?

I agree, the in-game sections arent that impressive imo...

Can anyone confirm that the replay mode will be 60fps on all camera angle?
It seems that the spectator angle is not 60fps by looking at the video.
I could well be wrong heer but didn't somebody confirm that replays were 60fps but if you're viewing via the GT Livething that drops to 30fps to reduce the data?

I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

I wouldn't really pay too much attantion to the replays at the moment because although what they are showing looks amazing, the quality of the acyua videos have been terrible for me. There may well be a lot more for them to improve with the replays by launch.

EDIT:
Out of interest, has anobody esle pre-ordered this yet? I pre-ordered the PSN version after the recent event, the showing was far from perfect but I was quietly confident that it would improve over the months.

EDIT 2:
I've downloaded the video now and it understandably looks so much better than the YouTube version so forget about what I said about the quality of that video. I know tah YouTube is far from perfect, but it's done a horrifiic job of this video for some reason.

GT Planet seems to confirm that Campaign is just sort of license / tutorial events and GT Sport has no traditional career mode.

That's a shame because the game just went from day 1 to no buy in an instant.

Definitely not a fan of MP.

Yea this is me :/

Looking at the images of the UI in the new stuff....i'm in with what they're doing here....The mission thing...of which there are 70 odd i believe are full on races but with all manor of different objectives....

Ah, thanks. I did try a few other media players and the results were variable. They are very large files and some players could barely get above single-digit frame rates. VLC seemed to cope best, but still staggered and paused in places. I was wondering if PD had already managed to lock the gameplay to v-synched 1080p/60 but it seems they are close, but with a little extra work to do. I'd gladly play this at 720p if 60fps was guaranteed under all circumstances.

Where was it confirmed that replays will be 60fps? This is huge news if true.

I've not read anything and i for one don't believe replay's will be 60. In terms of where they are now with performance i'm fairly confident performance will continue to improve. Will it hit 60 100% of the time i'd say no just because of the new footage i've seen being rather...swanky. Also still no skidmarks yet, not sure how cpu/gpu intensive such things are...On the whole though i'm with the "in" crowd.

Someone said it recently, I'm sure.

Edit, found it:

Replays are 60fps.

Was there a source for this, or was it after analysing the new 1080p/60 footage from the Sony site?

Previous streams and media (Unveiling, Japanese announcement, GTPlanet direct feeds) had an unlocked 60fps but the inconsistency was rather distracting. Seeing it locked is much more pleasant.

Note the equivalent playable views in replays are still 60fps, only the external angles are 30fps.

On inspection there's tearing but definitely no stuttering, plays smooth.

Coolio. Looking forward to DF's inevitable analysis of those huge videos.

I have to say, I had grave doubts about the technical side of GTS after the Copper Box event but it's now looking extremely solid indeed, with even more optimising and polishing to come. Good, good stuff.

I guess, they should never show or demo games in progress. I just don't understand how a game releasing in November, literally 5 months away have persons pretending it was the final product. 5 months is typically a lot of shine and polish for any Sony Studio. There are quite a few events before it releases too, so you can expect even more improved builds till release. I am personally waiting for when they implement a proper AA solution....

Sure, you can expect some optimization, better performance and more or less marginal visual upgrades, but the transformation here is unprecedented.
After the reveal in May no one could expect GTS to eventually look like this, even allowing PD 5, or 7 more months of development.

It's too bad this game focuses on sport cars and doesn't have more cheap shitboxes, because i love racing in those. At any rate, this is preordered.

Gamesyde just posted a vid, and it looks like reflections on the cars run at half speed...
Yeah, look at the garage door opening during the bit at the end with the R18 in the garage.

How many cars have we had revealed so far? Like 30-40 at the most?

Flags/motorsport rules and actual safety cars. Nothing that looks special enough to neglect offline so badly.
So its basically the same, just with more racing rules applied?

I dont see why first impression should last over something like this. I mean, if people thought it looked just ok to begin with, then see new footage that they think looks much better, i cant really see someone thinking something like "wow, it looks much better now, but since my first impression was bad, thats what counts". If you mean first impression in the way that people wont check out anything else from the game than what they first saw, then i can see it.

Totally agreed, and there have already been a few smug comments from disciples laughing at the non-believers. Fact is, May was a complete shit-show and the furore at the time was totally understandable, especially with PD's traditional lethargic approach and history of over-promising and under-delivering. I'm still not sure how they've turned GTS around in such a short space of time but more power to their elbows, I say. It could just put them back near the top of the heap.

For those of you interested in the progress on graphics since the London event:

Video files are still too compressed to make any comment on IQ.

This time tearing is present in the video material. It progresses from the top to the bottom before it is synced up again.
05c1f70552.gif

Transparency dithering is still in for some surfaces: Some (not all) trees, the fence in the gif on BrandsHatch (the opposite one doesn't as well as the one right before Paddock Hill).

Reflections ingame are updated at 60fps.

Replays are 30fps for the TV-style cam (high quality DoF and motion blur) and 60fps for all the other perspectives (no motion blur).

The dithering i don't mind. In U4 with foliage its a pretty good tradeoff for performance, though the motion blur in U4 helps further smooth things out...

that just looks bizarre. the lighting makes it look so hot (literally).

sensational.

if they continue making advancements with the sounds, then this might be the first gran turismo ever that could make me enjoy just watching it rather than playing it.

Tuning up the old shitboxes has always been my favourite part of GT, we are just going to have to wait for GT7 sometime next decade.

Yes, judging the game before the E3 and pretending that was final was misleading but is still misleading to judge the actual state and not expect some basic changes till the release, like happened in the past. The game is named by PD a "prototype" for a reason. First releases in the generation always grow from the ground: GT 2000/GT3 demos, GT-HD/GT5P demos, GT Academy demos... but this time PD is showing the progression more openly, so many changes till the realease should be expected and probably too during its life span with the updates.

As I said this is basic stuff to anyone who followed the GT series along generations.

Wait... Wtf. This looks good now? The lighting went up quite a few notches.

are they actually going to do it? Are the sounds improving with the graphics?
