Konami Rep Says 'I Hope We Earn You Back'

I'm confident that if Konami released MGS 3 that mechanically played like the original, but with the graphics of the Pachinko game, that 99% of the people dismissing them would buy the game day 1.

Social media manager at Konami US might be the most redundant job position ever. Unless he also does PR for the casino stuff.

Too bad they won't even do that, then. Making the whole thing moot.

Sure, but it seems silly to dismiss them when a single game could bring the MGS faithful back.

Dropping any of the games/HD remasters on PC or even green-lighting Rising 2 would lead to people caving in.

Commision another MGR from platinum an I'd pick it up! Pretty much long past the days of holding random grudges over even more random drama. Make cool games I wanna play an I'll get 'em.

I'm fine with them earning back my trust. They lost some huge people, but you know what? If you make good video games, who gives a shit?

Problem is, Konami hasn't made anything or said anything. And their previous pitfalls aren't installing me with much confidence.

Normally, I'm okay with giving companies the benefit of the doubt, even when the big boys leave (after all, games aren't made by one person). But Konami needs to start showing me the receipts before I trust this.

An MGS3 remake like the cutscenes in the pachinko machine, along with a nice PR campaign, would go a long way toward getting the fans back onboard

Sure, give me a new high budget Silent Hill game by a talented team and you will earn me back

and actual game not pachinko.

Well, sure. They're a business and we are consumers. It's not more complicated than that. Being morally opposed to Konami is basically only meaningful on an individual basis. Problem is they have nothing for any of us to consume.

I might start to forgive them if they make Suikoden 6 for PS4.

This would mean either hiring an outside developer to work on a game, or creating a new internal team to do so.

The latter will never happen, just because of the direction their business is moving. And I think the former is unlikely to happen, too, unless you're OK with an F2P mobile version of it.

This applies to pretty much all of their IPs, BTW.

Also: Bring back Bomberman! Its a crying shame it didn't even get a single entry on the 3DS, much less any other system this gen. An Bomberman himself shoulda been in Smash far more than Snake! There were 5 Super Bomberman games on the SNES alone for crying out loud!

The only thing I would be okay with for Suikoden VI at this point would be a Shenmue 3 scenario. But Suikoden doesn't have a following like Shenmue or Castlevania, and the budget needed would probably be in the 10m range, at least.

Remake of MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, MGS4, and Peace Walker all using Fox Engine. Oh and The Phantom Pain Completed Edition while you're at it. Then maybe you'll win back people's trust.

I"m in a bit of a minority, the only Konami games I was in love with were the Suikoden games.

If they made a Suikoden VI based off of 1/2/5, then I'd buy it, but many of us Suiko fans have long given up hope of seeing a sequel, so I"m not too excited.

Precisely this. Well, except I loved Castlevania too. But Igarashi is making Bloodstained which is all I've ever wanted in a modern Igavania so I'm good there.

There was a Verendus rumor that a Suikoden VI was in the works and that it hadn't been canceled as late as post-E3 2015 so there's a tiny glimmer of hope. Like, so tiny I'm not sure it's not just a shard of my shattered dreams for a proper J-RPG presence on PS4.

Telling you. They didn't shoot all those MGS scenes for Pachinko only. They'll definitely do something with this. Betting on an MGS3 remake.

I don't think they can get my goodwill. Too late for that

For a nice MGS3 (and sure, 2 while they're at it) remake though--they'd get my money

Make an actually good game, and people will come back, it's that simple.
It's not like they murdered someone (but themselves).

He said there was a Shadow Hearts in the works as well.

It still hurts.

I think they plan on doing Remakes of every game in their library until one comes out just right. They'll probably end up being half-assed attempts to get fans excited with nothing new except pachinko and PES.

I think they'd have to start with one of those Japanese public apologies where the CEO bows deeply and apologizes to the public and to Kojima. We can go from there. If they want to keep trying to defend their decisions, they'll never get my business again.

Terminating MGSV early and cancelling PT. Those are my franchises from Konami and they've lost me.

... releasing the Silent Hill HD collection in such a sorry state and pushing out substandard sequels was almost worse, such a lack of respect for your own cult IP's.

I'll be there day one to buy a MGS HD collection on Steam. Or a well done remake. Or a decent MGS 6. Anything as long as it's good and think I could enjoy it. I challenge those who have made clear their intentions to boycott all their future products to actually do so without finding any excuses. I can already see many claiming the classic MGS are all Kojima's babies anyway, so ports and remakes are fair game.

I admire Kojima. I do, you've no idea how much. MGS is my favorite game series. But to boycott a company because they fired one of its employees is silly. I mean, I can't remember but I'm guessing the entire Kojima Productions team was made redundant and that seems worse to me. Yet everyone focuses on a single person. Besides, how many of the companies whose products you regularly consume consistently and publicly engage in far worse practices without you never doing anything about it? I don't know Kojima in person. I'm not his friend nor I'm family. I mean, if I were I'd probably actually have a good reason to hate the company. But I ain't. They fired him and as soon as he was legally able to opened his own studio supported by Sony. Not much of a problem doing so I'd imagine. He's one of the luminaries of the industry, he and his family weren't gonna end up broke and homeless. I imagine some of his former employees struggled a bit more.

Konami is a business and a videogame company like any other. They make products that are targeted right at me as someone who's enjoyed playing games for the last two decades. It's only gonna take for them to release a good one for me to consider buying it. And as I said, as a PC gamer I wouldn't think twice about pre-ordering a PC port of the series precisely because Kojima funded by Konami made those games what they still are today: some of the best videogames ever made and true examples of what this medium at its best can offer.

What talent remains anyway? Or rather, how big were the various exoduses? I was under the impression that they'd lost or let go of whole teams and not just Kojima, Igarashi, et al.

I'm normally of the opinion that if they release games that I'm interested in, I'd buy them. Regardless of their shitty practices and complete disregard for their own pedigree, a good game is a good game and I'm not going to boycott that.

However, they were far beyond a company I cared for the output of for years, even before their more recent fuck-ups. I really do not like Metal Gear Solid games and they have been by far the largest focus for them, Silent Hills was famously cancelled, and even if they actually sat up and remembered that they were responsible for (or own the rights to) Contra, Castlevania, Gradius, Parodius, Pop n' Twinbee, Goemon, Sparkster, Bomberman, Bonk and many other classic franchises, I really don't think they have the manpower, the funding or frankly the slightest ability to care enough to make good games out of any of those anymore.

If this Ben chap feels like "winning us back" is a worthwhile cause then more power to him, but I think he's fighting an unwinnable battle at this point. It would take a goddamn miracle for me to even put Konami back on my radar as a games company I give a shit about anymore.

I buy quality software from companies that produce it. I have no loyalty to any person or corporate entity. If the idea is they are going to restructure and start releasing more compelling software titles then I'll be happy to purchase said content.

Having said that, I don't have a terribly large amount of faith that Konami in it's current state can manage that.

I don't know why but this article made me laugh, how is Konami gonna redeem themselves after what happened with Kojima and then making almost all of their franchises Pachinko Machines.

They could win me back by making some good games without predatory microtransactions.

What happened with Kojima was utter bullshit, but he's hopefully going to have more freedom to be Kojima than ever before.

Konami just needs to get their shit together, make some good games, and not fuck their customers at every turn. That'd gain my trust back.

I just don't believe that Konami has any interest in any of the games I care about. What are the chances I am going to get another great Contra game? What about a return to form for Castlevania? Suikoden? Goemon? Zone of Enders? My expectation is that none of them are being talked about inside Konami these days.

Those are the games I care about. I like Silent Hill, but there have only been three good games in the series. MGS is a unique series, but it was never what I would consider great. However, those are the series that actually have a chance to get a new entry.

I used to love you, Konami, but I think you are completely lost to us now.
