I understand priorities, but a simple yes / no answer is really what I think most people are looking for. The vagueness surrounding the whole thing is just a bit weird. Maybe it's just me, but straightforwardness and honesty would alleviate the situation; I'd feel better about the feature not being in the game if they just came out and said something.

Literally all Sean needs to do is tweet out "yes, multiplayer is in the game but we're having issues getting it to work" or "no, multiplayer is not in the game". Why's that so tough? Like, for real. I'm not being facetious.

He has tweeted in the past the need to stay tight lipped in certain circumstances.

They have obviously been overwhelmed by the huge success of the launch. But that post indicates they've been hiring to handle it so they're not just sitting on stacks of cash drinking beers. Well that one time on twitch.

The pre-order numbers weren't an indication Sean?

So did you watch streams for years to see if anyone walked around a planet?

It's clear at this point to me that no type of multiplayer was implemented into the game other than seeing named planets and systems or whatever (which isn't actually multiplayer).

If the game had released on PC the same day as PS4, I would have been playing these last few days, not reading GAF, and probably enjoying the game a lot. Now I'm sad. And I feel like I've seen/read way too much by following the NMS threads. My fault. There were heavy spoilers in non-spoilers threads. Not really my fault.
Yup, sad, I feel.

You can still enjoy it for what it is.

This has gone from humorous to kind of sad. I can't believe they have made no comment about this yet.

No benefit from commenting. It's highly unlikely the news they deliver will increase sales. If it is bad, and could decrease sales, they're not going to say shit. Strip away the whimsy and they're just a company out to make as much money as possible. They will do the thing expected to maximize profit. During pre-release that was say make vague allusions to game features and now, post-release, it's disappear into the night.

Tight lipped? About a game mechanic that people are asking about? Sorry, after the first trailer I'd kind of gone on radio silence and was just gonna wait for release, so I haven't been following the game terribly closely, but why would he need to keep stuff like this on the DL? If people are asking "why is this feature that you said would be in the game not in the game?" I don't think the best response is "sshhhhhh it's a secret!"

From everything I've read - especially all this jazz with the boxart - it sure sounds like multiplayer was planned as a feature but somewhere along the line they weren't able to implement it properly and instead of telling people they just quietly swept it under the rug and hoped nobody would notice. The dishonesty is the thing that's irking me. If you couldn't get it to work, that's fine, just tell people that.

Me watching streams of this game, looking for two players meeting:

You come upon a drone control room filled with monitors displaying drone footage and at least one of them is capturing footage of another player somewhere out there. You can command the drone to shoot the other player. This is the griefing Sean was talking about.

That's a great way to alienate fans and guarante they'll never buy anything from them ever again.

No see he armored himself against that criticism by adding "length of average play session."

"We saw the preorder numbers, but we thought y'all would put it down after a couple hours."

It this is true, thats a disgusting practice. I hope not, but something needs to be said.

Sure they are busy ironing out bugs or whatever, but it nothing to get your PR guy to write up a 1-2 sentence explanation

I sold the game today.

I kind of liked it but I don't feel that it's full price value. I was hoping that that value would come through significant "free" updates but I already feel like Sean just took the money and ran. I'll probably rebuy the game when it's under $20. At least by then, we'll hopefully know what features are actually in the game and which ones were quietly swept under the rug.

I know this is beyond stupid, but this whole lying thing made me really sad. I wont ask for a refund, because I never bought the game because of MP, but this demonstration of...malice really drained my will to play the game as happy as I thought I was going to play it.

People looking for multiplayer, what about elite dangerous. That game obviously has its own problems too, like it being released over a number of years and having to basically pay full price every year, but there's a decent universe there and lots of exploring to do and once they add atmospheric planets hopefully this year, it should be a whole new ball game.

One universe, many galaxies linked by a "hyperwarp" method located at the center of each galaxy. Each galaxy has many solar systems that can be warped to and from each other from a menu, but each solar system is just planets, moons, and asteroids surrounded by a skybox at infinity, where a sun is painted at one end, but is not reachable. There is gravity on each planet, but the gravity at each planet is the same, which is odd.No heavy or bouncy planet gravity, which could have been really nice, and incredibly easy to implement. You cannot throw your ship in orbit. If you don't keep your thrusters on, you stop, so you can't maintain a high speed without burning fuel. This game is more exploration than space simulation.

This was evident in the preview videos, though obviously it could easily have been explained by using an anti gravity suit or similar thing.

Elite is great. I've been putting a ton of time into it but I also have a Vive and Hotas so it all feels amazing. It also helped that I backed it at a tier that all expansions are "free" to me.

I've been watching NMS closely but it looks to fall way short of what I wanted. We'll see I guess.

Just like I said earlier on this page. I'm still waiting for the PC release, but I was so excited a few days ago and now... I don't know, I feel kinda numb. It was my most anticipated game this year.
I hope I'll enjoy it, and hopefully there will be some answers from HG after the release on PC. Hopefully.
I'm also soured that the game is apparently excluded from the Family Share service on Steam. It means my girlfriend won't be able to have her own save, and that sucks.

You know I was just thinking that, should I sell. I like the game, but the loop is losing me. No objectives, and the one objective, make it to the center
means nothing
its too repetitive, and the "Millions of worlds! are too samey, and when they are different you aren't doing anything new.

And I like these type of games, but NMS needs more content

I'd like to think they're so busy working on the PC launch that they haven't even had time to really address any criticisms and/or are sorting out whether they CAN add in these missing features in updates down the track. I believe in Sean, and think things just didn't come together before launch like they'd planned although his silence is a bit frustrating. It's not even a feature I particularly care about, but its the principle.

Yeah, I read your post some pages ago. Truly sad. Im kinda buying it on a budget too, but decided not to refund it because there is no other game on the horizon for me at the moment.

Yeah. It feels really weird to have my will to play deflated like that.

I hear the xbone version isn't as good as the PC so check out some reviews first. Mostly because the hardware isn't as good.

The game structure is also leaning towards fetch quests or delivery quests or as some people like to say Space truck simulator. However flying a spacecraft is not easy but fun and rewarding when you get the hang of it. They definitely nailed the part being in space. Best thing to do is check out the elite dangerous thread on GAF, some great space scenery in that too.

The hype made me buy this day 1 (I didnt pre-order though), but if I had a chance to play it before buying it, I definitely would not have drop $60 on it.

If you are on a budget I definitely would reconsider paying full price.

I like this game, but I got more enjoyment out of Surgeon Simulator for $5

*Edit*

Just realized you already bought it

Dang you've got it made.

I'm just a lowly keyboard warrior, but even the KB feels amazing flying a space craft. It's difficult and fun. Not as difficult as kerbal space program so it s in that sweet spot.

I haven't got horizons yet, will jump back in when they add atmospheric planets.

The only thing is the game is expensive if you want it all.

And by "Shared Universe," we mean the names you give things are shared, but there's no actual shared space, because the game doesn't send your location data to the servers or anything that would be needed for an actual shared universe.

But don't worry - we'll continue to put out PR statements that allow you the chance to let your imagination run wild while also offering ourselves plausible deniability in the case of a lawsuit.

That seems to be the case. According to Steamdb, they've just started polishing the PC version right after the PS4 version launched.

The more I think about it, I don't think this is the fault of Sean. I think Sony is to blame here. My guess is, his multiplayer comments were when multi WAS being considered. My guess is, Sony cut multi to get the game out when THEY wanted it out. Not any longer

Elite is in a really good place right now.

From what I've read it used to be lacking in features, stuff was kind of drip fed but as of Horizons and the latest patches it is an incredibly solid experience.

It sucks being in two "halves" that are both expensive on their own but IMO Horizons is well worth it. There is so much to see and do, if you get bored exploring and getting paid for cartography, you can go do some bounty hunting, then try your hand at a little mining, etc.

The way some people in this thread are talkong about Sean you would think this guy is the second coming...seems like a snake oil salesman to me...game comes out in less then 24 hrs (for pc) and still radio silence since being asked about multiplayer...prior to that tweets on a frequent basis

Perhaps they've prioritized fixing the crashes and glitches over being able to fly around w a friend. Just saying. People were complaining about a lack of response regarding the crashes, too. Now we have one.
Uh is a preorder boost pack that big of a deal?

And this is backed up by what? It wouldn't have been delayed from June to August if Sony was really pressing the issue.

There's a lot of hype on NMS. Just watch some streams and see if it's something you'd like to play. The multiplayer and finding someone else is like a micro portion of the game. A lot of people will be able to tell you what things you can and can't do in the game as the weeks go by. But just like other space games there are things that are off limits.

I see a lot of people agreeing the game is as aimless as it seems to me. Little to do but rinse and repeat a moderately lush generation formula. 18 quintillion planets doesn't mean your interest in doing grind tasks solely based on your own motivation is multiplied.

The game is pretty decent already(fairly shallow though) so I don't get why he felt the need to exaggerate what the game was about at launch. A month or two ago he could have simply stated that some features couldn't quite make the cut at release, but would hopefully be added down the road.

Granted maybe they thought it would hurt sales and cause its own shitstorm before release, but it's better in the long run to be honest about your product obviously.
