no mans sky is a buggy game. if there are too many bugs which you have to encounter, how can you consider this game art?
iam disappointed by this game. my savegame is gone, i couldnt progress any further, and even worse= on some days i simply cant start up this fucker.

yep, this is art.

sotc is art.
ico is art
zelda
ff1-9 are art.
but this nms is no art.

LOL

If SotC was released in today's climate with the framerate it had on PS2, there'd be so many people claiming its "unplayable" and "broken", it'd make NMS look like a model of perfection!

Back then, people were a bit more tolerant and hailed it as a classic; something that simply cannot happen these days because there are too many people trying to score "internet points" tearing stuff apart.

This defense has been trotted out many, many, many times. It's really nothing new.

The concept is simple: if a dev promises a feature, it's expected to be there. It doesn't matter if you use that feature 100% of the time or 0.0000000001% of the time, if the dev says it's in, it better be in.

The bigger issue here is Sean continuing to be coy and going out of his way to ignore the fact that people can't see each other. He directly addressed the fact that two people were in the same place at the same time, and has deliberately stopped short of actually addressing the question that naturally follows immediately: hey, how come they couldn't see each other?

There are plenty of folks in this thread who are enjoying the game while simultaneously understanding why this is a big deal to people. Just because you enjoy the game does not mean these complaints are invalid or negligible.

Oh Im definitely not defending Sean here. I just think its funny that if his promise were in fact true, then multiplayer would exist, but everyone would be too far away from each other to actually enjoy it.

Yes, the gall of him to not try to fix a game that he paid $60 for. SMH

We shouldn't have to fix their crap for them.

Give me a fucking break, going into the options menu on a PC game is to be expected, in fact TB usually goes through the options menu on PC games in his video, so shake away champ

As far as the two people not seeing each other is concerned. Did it occur to most people complaining about it that servers were down more then they were up since launch? Its very had to miss, because it doesnt affect moment to moment gameplay. You only can tell if you enter the menu and the message says its down.

Imagine the outrage at delaying the game even longer. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

I've been following this thread but avoided posting in it until now. Probably a mistake to post at all, but hey. People are so bizarrely ANGRY it just doesn't make sense.

That's true. But then the wisest option seems to be 'don't delay the game too many times'. Which is down to managing the project better, I suppose.

In some parallel universe, multiplayer actually works in this game, but players are too far apart to actually cross paths (as was suggested pre-launch.) Two players spends weeks upon weeks collecting fuel and warping to meet up, only to be completely underwhelmed when they can finally see it each other. "Yep, I see you. Now what?"

It is weird that that is the scenario that everyone would be happy with, and this thread would not exist. Everyone who is pissed off about being lied to would be playing the game, going "welp, I'll probably never actually run into anyone, but at least the potential is there."

I'm loving No Mans Sky, and it is exactly what I expected.

I've been playing and enjoying the game. Pretty much agree with this. It's pretty much as advertised. I'm hoping that the game will continue to be supported with improved AI routines for the lifeforms, as well as biomes on each planet. If the game procedurally generated weather and created weird biomes and ancient architectures (and species) on various worlds, I'd be fine. I don't expect 'multiplayer', but I would like for major things changes to the environment to be sent to a server so that your actions have impact.

There's nothing you can bring up that hasn't been discussed.

Did it occur to you that this might have occurred to people and that they might have made sure they're online while trying to meet?

If it turns out the MP was in there all along and this was all just server trouble it'll be a redemption greater than Shawshank.

Yes, it occured at some point during the 8,000 posts in this thread.

There are 160+ pages in this thread, anything you bring up to try and explain it has been through this exact cycle: brought up>discussed>explained away/discussion stopped as there is nothing else to say on it till Sean makes an announcement>brought up again>discussed again>killed again.

That's also true, but hindsight, etc. Game dev is hard. And often unpredictable. Actually all dev is, but game dev in particular can be a huge mess when you're targeting so many different hardware configurations. Much as I prefer pc gaming, they probably should've focused exclusively on ps4.

C'est la vie.

Here is a video interview I posted in one of the old threads. It's one of the rare interviews where Sean is pushed for an answer regarding multiplayer. He starts his usual BS at first but then cracks with the follow up question. Make your own mind up.

Also a few interesting titbits regarding performance, framerate etc...

Eh, disagree. I feel like that implies the current anger against Murray isn't justified, but it is: we're faced with a confusing, very bad-looking situation and this prick is ignoring us.

If Murray were to be reassuring us that MP is indeed in the game (meaning also that he'd not be ignoring us) and later on, when the servers stabilize, we'd see there is actually indeed MP in NMS, then that would be redemption. (edit2: but if this were the case, we wouldn't be as pissed at Murray as we are now, so that's my hypothetical out the window :p)

The way things are going right now, MP still being a thing is not enough in my opinion.

EDIT:

This is indeniably true. But I do personally remain standing by my point that you cannot release a game in this state. Delay it again if you have to. I personally see that option as the less awful one.

Fuck this guy, seriously. I have just realised that all of his cute, shy, bare feet interviews was nothing more than a facade.
Prick!

This is too much man. I get that there are issues with the game but you've never met the guy. Don't go that direction.

I agree. But that doesn't change the fact that there would still be angry nerds calling him a prick for having the gall to make a mistake.

Yeah, I think he's pretty clear here there is no multiplayer in the game.

Heh, yeah. Which is strange, because he'd essentially be increasing the value of the product without increasing the price. But I suppose that's way beyond the knee-jerk nature of getting pissed off at a delay.

Though this Miyamoto quote has since been a bit overtaken by the advent of automatic, online updating, I feel there's still a core of truth in it: 'A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.'

Edit: though maybe it's the consumers who should start to accept that the first days, maybe even weeks after a launch are in a way an extended, humongous beta. A thought.

Yes, Totalbiscuit stopped streaming because of the bad performance, he said it was "as bad as Arkham Kinght".

I watched Lirik streaming it for like 2 minutes earlier. He was playing with the game maxed out at a high framerate. People asked him about TB's assessment. Lirik's response was something like, "TotalBiscuit could make Hearthstone run poorly on his PC."

True, but if you look at the Steam reviews, it seems like TotalBiscuit is not the only one suffering from performance issues

Doesn't matter, seems like people are taking TB's experience as gospel.

Says a lot that you need to use "angry nerds" to somehow improve your position.

People paid a lot of money, so some standards should be meet by Hello Games.

Okay. I don't buy into this outrage culture gamers have developed in recent years. That overbearing sense of entitlement has grown worse and worse over time. Hell, abuse of that attitude, taking advantage of that type of person, is part of what led to the initial growth of gamer gate, looping in people who didn't know better and assumed they were owed Everything.

I ain't into it.

Yeah I'm all for delaying games into virtual oblivion, as long as they come out good!

That said, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet, either because of lack of funds or publishers or whatever. I don't know why they didn't delay the pc version earlier. Maybe they had a good reason. Maybe they didn't!

The importance of a first impression.
Recent examples:
-SFV, NMS, Star Fox, Battleborn
-Splatoon, Overwatch, Rocket League

I can't wait until someone actually sees another person in this game. It will truly be this thread's final stage of greatness.

Boy, am I gonna love that moment for two reasons:

1. Sean will be vindicated and all who doubted his honesty will be made to apologize.

2. It will inspire me to become a game designer and tell the truth about my own games.

Even if that does happen (which I hope it does, because it would be the best outcome by far for the devs and the players) that doesn't get Sean off the hook for not clearly addressing the issue after it came to light.

What's stopping you from becoming a game designer right now? Follow your dreams.gif

Pushing that multiplayer just to sell more copies.

You aren't the first to do this but I really don't see how wanting a straight answer to a simple question equates to the organized harassment of women in the gaming industry.

I'm disappointed by the extreme opinions in this thread, but I'm also glad I decided to hold off purchasing the game (80+tax=92 in Canada).

I will "likely" buy it in the future, but I have enough games to play at the moment, so I'm waiting to see how the game develops before plunking down the cash.

Pray tell then, what would satiate this great injustice that has been wraught upon all these poor ignorant consumers?

If Any Man's God were to perform some sort of divine intervention and grace this game with multiplayer:

1. No one owes Sean Murray anything. He should have been honest about his game from the start. People pay their hard-earned money, and some of us are adults, with real, actual lives. We don't have time to dump hundreds upon hundreds of hours into some virtual one in hopes of discovering whether or not a game feature exists, when that's not the consumer's job in the first place.

2. Honesty is the best policy. Always.

If ypu werent around back then, SotC's framerate was trashed plenty here at release. As well as the drab color scheme. It was not universally praised.

Not everyone who bought into gamer gate early on believed in organized harassment of women. Many people were essentially tricked. I would like you to re-read my post without the rage that GG instills in people. Specifically the part about how people TOOK ADVANTAGE of that attitude in others.

You're also significantly downplaying what is being directed at Sean and Hello Games merely to serve your point.

I find that very disingenuous.

If it turns out the game does actually have multiplayer then

- Disappointment/criticism still justified for the times Sean vaguely implied the game wouldn't have multiplayer ("this is not a multiplayer game," turns out it is)

- Confusion as to why Sony had the online icon removed from the box, doesn't require PS+, lists the game as single player, Steam lists the game as single player...as all of that contributed to the mess as well
