PS4’s 4.00 update is coming soon. Adds folders, Trophy enhancements, UI refresh and m

I'd really like to see controller annoyances fixed that popped up after 3.50

When a second controller is turned on it automatically turns off the first one and assigns that controller to the active user and turns off the first controller. Then that controller must select change user and pick a different user, then turn the first controller back on and select the original user and finally you have two controllers connected.

This has become a huge pain in the ass for Fighting game tournaments.

if you know a better workaround let me know.

The DS4 will need to be redesigned to do what you are asking. Even when plugged into a PC it sends it's inputs over Bluetooth. Either buy third party or deal with it.
err no it doesnt. The DS4 works fine on PCs that dont even have blutooth like mine

Love the improvements but where is the psn name change? Been waiting patiently for 9 years now Sony.
There's always been a possibility name changes will never happen man. Didn't you read the bit from Shu that said its a engineering design error and it would require a massive amount of re-engineering to fix.

No PSN name change yet. :(

Huh?

Any time I turn on a second controller it immediately asks for controller 2 to pick a user and leaves controller 1 alone.

Edit: Oh wait this was an issue introduced in 3.5?

As you know, pressing and holding the PS button on your DualShock 4 brings up the Quick Menu. We’ve overhauled this menu to make it faster and easier to use. One big change is that the menu now only covers a portion of the screen, meaning you don’t need to leave gameplay entirely.

Neat!

yea ever since 3.50, I had the beta for that and uninstalled it because it was making my weekly FGC meetups annoying. Unfortunately once the full version rolled out I've had to just deal with it ever since.

Thought it may work differently if you turn a second DS4 on than when connecting fightsticks.

That actually looks like a solid update.

- Disappointed there's still no hide trophies thing for us weirdos who get annoyed by the 26% tropy completions. But oh well.
- The changing the trophy rarity symbol seems funny to me, that someone actually thought that was a necessary change.
- A little apprehensive about the Quick Menu. Hopefully it doesn't take up more space for the OS and is as quick as they say it is.

no PSN ID change, still massive disappointment.

You're gonna be disappointed for the rest of your life then. Pretty sure unless PSN got some sort of collossal overhaul where the underlying encrypted login keys had to be changed, you're not gonna be able to change your PSN ID.

"As a result, the Games and Applications tabs focus on content currently installed on your system."

Mother of God, finally. It only took 2+ years

All I really want now is a 3DS-esque Progress Log to show playtimes but I know that probably will never happen...

I'm also really hoping this UI-refresh means the blue Media Player icon will now fit in with themes instead of sticking out, I love the styled system icons of my Journey, Firewatch & Oxenfree themes.

They say that every major update and it very rarely amounts to much. What you see is what you get.
You've got it backwards, they usually don't say there's more than the major features described on the EU/US blogs.

I wonder why it's not transparent in some way.
It is.

Hiding games on the trophy list has been available since before PS4 launch. Pretty sure you just highlight a game in the trophies list, press OPTIONS and it's one of the options.

I'm more excited for the Quick Menu and Share buttons to be honest! Plus the fact we can put up a customised wallpaper up on our profile.

How do I know if i'm signed up to the beta program? I can't remember if I did or not. I wonder how long until its released publicly.

I remember but I'm not the same person from 9 years ago and would like my name to reflect that.

The quick menu still takes up like half the screen lol. I was expecting like it'd pop up the at the bottom portion of the screen or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it only takes up about a quarter of the screen if you're not in the options part of the menu.

Huh? The option "Log out of PS4" which IMHO is the more intuitive reason to switch off a controller is right there. Otherwise just let it sit aside for 10 minutes and it will be off. Please describe your use case to elaborate the urgent need!?

Huh, let's say I just want to switch on my system and cue up a Netflix film and turn the controller off asap. It's definitely a faff having to choose devices, turn off device, then confirm another time which device to turn off. Definitely should just be Turn Off Controller and it switches off the controller you were using and returns back to whatever app you were using.

Sounds great.

Time to start nagging for next big thing: external storage as easy way to extend support for installed games without having to replace HDD.

Yeah, some great updates here that have been needed a long time. But I aldo want an external hdd option, I love that feature on the Xbox One!

All you do is hold down the PS button for ten seconds and it will shut off with no menus.

I wish Sony would let me erase my trophies, so many 1% games I don't care about that I tried because of PS+ that I will never play again. :(

Some cool features. Was hoping for more social stuff but the quick menu improvements sound pretty good. Don't really care about anything else

I'm torn between being ecstatic and angry that it took so long.

Also, essentially all the updates I've wanted since the first month are in this system update, while all of the rest of them contained almost nothing I wanted. Was it just my bad luck that they prioritised the stuff I care about last? How could it take them 3 years to do this stuff?

I remember in the first weeks of the system someone made a folder mockup that looks exactly how it looks in the OP. Three fucking years is an incompetent amount of time to get that in there.

My exact feelings. Thank god for folders/get the fuck out of here for taking 3 years to figure out the most basic modern OS feature.

I think this is only to hide it from other viewers and also only if they're 0%.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
We’ve also added a button that will let you view the content of a Hidden Trophy. The Trophy will still be hidden by default, but you can now choose to show the Trophy name and info.

Fucking finally!

I'll need to see the update on my console before I can declare my opinion.
Nothing here really excites me, nothing I cannot live without.

I guess I am most interested to see library changes. Looks like they are not doing the "hide" option, but anything to help me get rid of betas, demos and PS+ garbage will be great.
