This thing would sell a lot if it's really priced $250.
If it's priced 249, it'll be 199 + game on black friday. Which is fucking insane.

I still say $250 for the standalone slim and $300 for one with a bigger harddrive and game. We know that they're shipping standalone units with a 500GB harddrive. I expect that to be the one they use to target the mainstream. And for the BF deal they can just toss in a game or two with the $250 model. Maybe GT Sport and Infinite Warfare.

If Sony manage to put the Slim out at $249... they will sell a lot of consoles. A LOT.
Like, seriously.
So I was checking more into "Contrast effect" Marketing. The common principle is to put out two items at roughly the same time. One base level which has a simple appearance to is and one item which looks flashier and is higher end. The idea there is that marketing expects to sell more of the more lower cost item. They'd expect to sell the flashier item for sure, but they really want to sell more of the base level item. I wonder how much of that applies here.
If they price slim right, they can indeed make bank on it.
I can already see the options in regards to bundles for the Holidays:
1. PS4 Slim standalone at $249
2. PS4 Slim + Uncharted 4 at $299
3. PS4 Neo standalone at $399
4. PS4 Neo + Final Fantasy XV at $449
Sony will print money.
Join the club! lolI don't like PS4K for the same reason as you.
I don't like PS4.5 either though
S would've been good, especially since people already have a good idea of what to expect from iPhone. Too bad MS wasted it on their slim.It should be something neutral, a naming convention that can be carried over to the next cycle also. Like the iPhone 5 -> 5s, 6 -> 6s. Something reusable. ('K' doesn't work very well in that context either IMO).
Nice find! This on the XB1 slim price breakdown.
Actually, that link says UHD boosted the drive price by $15.50, to $33.50.The XB1 supporting UHD blu-ray and 2TB drive with a manufacturing price increase of $24 indicates UHD support is not going to increase the price.
Again, the link says the die shrink will actually increase costs in the short term, until yields come back in to line.Beyond that speculation we do not know Sony's manufacturing costs. With 14nm the PS4 APU should cost less (more chips per wafer), use less power resulting in smaller size and less weight which reduces shipping costs.
Yeah, I'm starting to believe it. Start with the $324-BOM, 2TB SlimBone, sub the UHD for BR and drop the HDD to 500GB, and you're practically there already.$249 for the Slim?
Based purely on BOMs? That'd actually give them a decent profit, yes. Based on the price the market is eager to pay for VR gear? Not a chance; maybe next year.I wonder if a $599 VR + PS4 Slim bundle would be possible

Part of the price could depend if they have varying hard drive models like how the Xbox One S did, though for a base price I could see $399 with a 500 GB. I'd sort of wonder then if I could switch my 2 TB into the Neo or not, which would save some trouble.
safe bet you'll be able to use your 2TB fine, but you would have to back up, wipe it, and restore all your stuff. you can't hot swap hard drives between consoles

PS4 deal. foreshadowing price cut to 249 for all OG ps4's and standard price for the slim? sale ends 9/6 lol

I haven't quite figured out my hard drive migration strategy yet. I have a 2TB in my PS4, right now I'm thinking:
- delete most of the games I have installed save for the games I'm playing currently, get it down to less than 500gb
- back up the PS4 at that point to an external drive including saves
- wipe the 2tb drive, and install it in the Neo
- restore the contents of what I backed up. download any additional games as needed.
This is pretty much my strategy and I've already been clearing out a lot of games and reducing the amount. I think I'm pretty much there, but I might delete a couple more to save time. I think the two biggest are Witcher and Doom and I don't mind reinstalling those at some point so long as the saves are safe.
unless the Neo happens to support bigger drives I may just splurge and get a 4TB
It would be enormous. People are way more price sensitive on consoles than many on GAF would realize. If Sony manage to put the Slim out at $249... they will sell a lot of consoles. A LOT.

During the big Xbox One sales before the S release, the Best Buy I work at was selling a ton of them at $280. There was actually a large drop off after the S came out. A PS4 at $250 would probably be constrained by stock.
For some reason I feel like it'll be $449 for Neo. Not sure why. Just seems like a good price for a premium product, especially if the build quality and styling are premium too.
I have a friend who pre-orders games through them regularly because they give $25 gift cards to their own store. I think it's just how they try to get you to actually buy stuff from Dell.

PS4 Plus
PS Plus's cost increased probably because of the Yen getting stronger against the Dollar. Not just cuz. With an MSRP increase from $399 to $449 next year just cuz.
Everyone needs a dreamNeo + Red Dead.
Believe.
In all seriousness I think Red Dead will be there....

if ps4k is 400+, they wont pull an apple style launch and say available this week.
i predict november or early December
The UHD BD doesn't cost that much and you have to count the more powerful hardware with the GDDR memory on PS4.I didn't believe the slim could be less than $300 but with a Xbox One S with UHD and 4K at $300 then a $249 PS4 slim just makes sense

That would still be like $799 at least. I can't see Sony putting out a bundle at that costI know it's extremely unlikely but I'm hoping for a Neo + VR bundle that knocks the overall price down by $50.
