I still say $250 for the standalone slim and $300 for one with a bigger harddrive and game. We know that they're shipping standalone units with a 500GB harddrive. I expect that to be the one they use to target the mainstream. And for the BF deal they can just toss in a game or two with the $250 model. Maybe GT Sport and Infinite Warfare.

Yeah, that makes sense because Shortman82 did say the manual talks about 500GB and 1TB models.

I could see a 1TB/GT:S bundle for £250 at least for retail prices if not officially in the UK.

I didn't believe the slim could be less than $300 but with a Xbox One S with UHD and 4K at $300 then a $249 PS4 slim just makes sense

If it's priced 249, it'll be 199 + game on black friday. Which is fucking insane.

Doubt it. If it is 250 at launch they likely won't drop the price at all during Black Friday because it's a brand new product and the profit margin will probably already be kinda small. At most there might be a special bundle or something.
I certainly hope it's 250 though, it would line up perfectly with how the PS3 slim came along side a $100 price drop.

I'm guessing NEO is $400. I don't know if they want to exceed pricing on launch PS4. $450 would work though.

Just because some deals have PS4 at $249/€249, doesn't mean Slim will be 249 too. This is just a fire sale to get rid of excess OG PS4s.

Stealth edit: XB1 was also $249 last month but XB1S ended up at $300.

If Sony manage to put the Slim out at $249... they will sell a lot of consoles. A LOT.

Like, seriously.

So I was checking more into "Contrast effect" Marketing. The common principle is to put out two items at roughly the same time. One base level which has a simple appearance to is and one item which looks flashier and is higher end. The idea there is that marketing expects to sell more of the more lower cost item. They'd expect to sell the flashier item for sure, but they really want to sell more of the base level item. I wonder how much of that applies here.

If they price slim right, they can indeed make bank on it.

I can already see the options in regards to bundles for the Holidays:

1. PS4 Slim standalone at $249

2. PS4 Slim + Uncharted 4 at $299

3. PS4 Neo standalone at $399

4. PS4 Neo + Final Fantasy XV at $449

Sony will print money.

Just sold my PS4 for $300. Only downside is that now I can't play Mankind Divided (already have a ps4 copy). Didn't want to wait till later until the value for the ps4 dropped like crazy, and honestly thought it was going to take a week to get a serious buyer (by which time I would've at least completed one playthrough).

Have plenty of games to play on the xb1, wiiu and pc, but yeah Deus Ex was one of my most anticipated titles of the year, so it kinda stings right now. Hopefully the Neo comes out soon.

Could see this happening honestly. All though maybe not FFXV, maybe something like Call of Duty or something instead.

Any thoughts on possible PS+ changes that might be announced at the meeting?

Can't keep PS3 and Vita on their forever. The games are drying up on their (although PS3 this month was great). But not needing it for online play and starting to reach the bottom of the barrel has to hearld the end, right?

I'm hoping we get 3 PS4 games (which we often get anyway) and a VR experience.

What about people's PS3 /Vita collections, will people get an opportunity to outright buy the licenses when those IGCs are discontinued? Like pay 50 bucks to untie them from PS+ or will they be trapped behind that paywall forever?

I don't like PS4K for the same reason as you.

I don't like PS4.5 either though :D
Join the club! lol

It should be something neutral, a naming convention that can be carried over to the next cycle also. Like the iPhone 5 -> 5s, 6 -> 6s. Something reusable. ('K' doesn't work very well in that context either IMO).
S would've been good, especially since people already have a good idea of what to expect from iPhone. Too bad MS wasted it on their slim.

This on the XB1 slim price breakdown.
Nice find!

The XB1 supporting UHD blu-ray and 2TB drive with a manufacturing price increase of $24 indicates UHD support is not going to increase the price.
Actually, that link says UHD boosted the drive price by $15.50, to $33.50.

Beyond that speculation we do not know Sony's manufacturing costs. With 14nm the PS4 APU should cost less (more chips per wafer), use less power resulting in smaller size and less weight which reduces shipping costs.
Again, the link says the die shrink will actually increase costs in the short term, until yields come back in to line.

$249 for the Slim?
Yeah, I'm starting to believe it. Start with the $324-BOM, 2TB SlimBone, sub the UHD for BR and drop the HDD to 500GB, and you're practically there already.

So, $250 without a game, and $300 with. Then prolly temp-drop the bundles to $250 for BF and Christmas.

I wonder if a $599 VR + PS4 Slim bundle would be possible
Based purely on BOMs? That'd actually give them a decent profit, yes. Based on the price the market is eager to pay for VR gear? Not a chance; maybe next year. ;)

Neo + Red Dead.

Believe.

In all seriousness I think Red Dead will be there....

Part of the price could depend if they have varying hard drive models like how the Xbox One S did, though for a base price I could see $399 with a 500 GB. I'd sort of wonder then if I could switch my 2 TB into the Neo or not, which would save some trouble.

safe bet you'll be able to use your 2TB fine, but you would have to back up, wipe it, and restore all your stuff. you can't hot swap hard drives between consoles

I haven't quite figured out my hard drive migration strategy yet. I have a 2TB in my PS4, right now I'm thinking:

- delete most of the games I have installed save for the games I'm playing currently, get it down to less than 500gb

- back up the PS4 at that point to an external drive including saves

- wipe the 2tb drive, and install it in the Neo

- restore the contents of what I backed up. download any additional games as needed.

Yeah, I figure it wouldn't be as simple to just take it out then put it back in. Still, it's an easy enough process if a bit time consuming. Only bit I remembered having trouble with when I upgraded my OG model was getting the software from the flash drive to run properly.

This is pretty much my strategy and I've already been clearing out a lot of games and reducing the amount. I think I'm pretty much there, but I might delete a couple more to save time. I think the two biggest are Witcher and Doom and I don't mind reinstalling those at some point so long as the saves are safe.

Will I be OK to use the new PS4 to PS4 copy utility introduced in the 4.0 firmware to clone my PS4 drive to a new Neo and then carry on using both consoles (existing console set as primary, Neo logged in on my account)?

unless the Neo happens to support bigger drives I may just splurge and get a 4TB o_O

Ah that's actually something I forgot about. I was planning on giving my PS4 to my sister or, if she didn't want it, a friend. I'd need to deactivate it from my account then, wouldn't I? Or is it simple enough to activate the Neo and then switch it to my primary, then remove the other?

Also need to figure out where I'm going to preorder this at. Amazon probably would be simplest, but with Best Buy or GameStop I have things I could trade in along with a gift card I got for my birthday a while back that could cover most of the cost. Never dealt with preordering a console at BB though.

That'd be a tempting idea, though I don't generally keep too many active things I'm not playing so 2 TB might serve me well enough.

It would be enormous. People are way more price sensitive on consoles than many on GAF would realize.

During the big Xbox One sales before the S release, the Best Buy I work at was selling a ton of them at $280. There was actually a large drop off after the S came out. A PS4 at $250 would probably be constrained by stock.

For some reason I feel like it'll be $449 for Neo. Not sure why. Just seems like a good price for a premium product, especially if the build quality and styling are premium too.

Yeah, when I worked at GameStop anytime there was a price drop on the consoles we would see a big uptick on people coming in and buying them.

Yeah, $399-449 seems the sweet spot to me.

I have a friend who pre-orders games through them regularly because they give $25 gift cards to their own store. I think it's just how they try to get you to actually buy stuff from Dell.

Funnily enough, I got my PS3 Slim in 2009 and my 360 S in 2010 from Dell because they had the best deals. 20% off the PS3, and free Madden 11 (which I sold for $40) with the 360.

The UHD BD doesn't cost that much and you have to count the more powerful hardware with the GDDR memory on PS4.

No way it's December.. they aren't going to miss black Friday. The latest it releases, if releasing this year, is the 3 year anniversary, November 15th.. but my money is on sometime in October.

PSVR games are already running at over 1080P & at 60 FPS minimal all while doing reprojection , head tracking & so on the old PS4 with 1.84 TF & older tech yet people don't believe Neo will be able to do 4K.

But isn't it cheaper for Sony to make a console with 18CU ,8GB GDDR 1 HDMI Output & no optical out & so on than it is for MS to make a console with 12CU , 32MB embedded memory , 8GB DDR3 , 8GB of NAND , 1 HDMI out & 1 HDMI in , optical out & so on?

Isn't Apple style available to preorder this week and then ship in a couple weeks? I don't ever remember getting my new iPhone the week it's announced.
