If you tried to get me to explain what the fuck Lex and Superman are thinking in BvS and what their motivations are you'd get a very long confused stare from me. The only person in that movie that makes any moderate amount of sense is Batman.

Sounds like you weren't actually watching the movie at all.

That says more about your viewing experience than about the movie itself. Each character literally says its motivations aloud. Superman wants to help people, Batman thinks Superman is too powerful and dangerous and will turn bad and kill people, Lex thinks Superman is too perfect and he wants to show the world he isn't.

Malekith wants to.. destroy the universe he lives in, for some reason. Yay.

Iron Man 3 is the best Iron Man movie

I've heard this a lot, but only thought Iron Man 3 was "okay" myself. I found it better than the 2nd one, but did not enjoy it near as much as the first. Really wish they would have stuck closer to the Extremis storyline from the comic.

Lex hates Superman, I get that. But why? Because of some gods and demons and humans shit? Oh, and lets not forget that his entire plan to get Batman and Superman to fight each other is some of the stupidest shit a comic book movie has ever done. Everything about Lex Luthor in BvS is a case of a writer trying way too goddamn hard to look more clever than he actually is. Lex literally could have just said "I hate you because you're perfect" and that could have been it. Instead Snyder and company have to jam more incredibly non-subtle metaphors into everything because he thinks that makes him look smart.

I'm actually REALLY shocked at the amount of hate this movie gets..

I thought it was more entertaining than Thor 1. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed myself.

This is coming from someone who's been burned out on super hero movies for years.

Thor 2 is alright. Not great, but not shit. I doubt the sanity of anybody who writes more than 100 words to describe their love/hate for the movie.

I feel you have created a scenario that doesn't exist (that people somehow give Thor 2 a pass, when it's pretty much a recurring punchline on Gaf, among other places), and therefore have gone way overboard to an extent that Thor 2 just doesn't warrant.
This is exactly what I felt starting reading the OP. He created a scenario which is not true to GAF, and thus went way overboard.

I also don't remember much of The Dark World (I remember the starting fight with his friends, Loki taking over the throne, Jane and Darcy finding the Aether and the fighting through portals which were great).

If anything this thread has made me wanna give it a rewatch tomorrow.

So basically "it was forgettable."

Which is where I guess I'm on a different page because, well, I remember what happened in the movie, why it happened, and the motivation of each character. There's always going to be a disconnect between me and people who did not like Thor 2 for that reason.

Opened the thread not remembering a single thing from Thor 2, read the Mandrake post and it feels like I just saw it all over again.

It's an awful movie and I remember leaving the theater thinking:
A) I would never see Thor 2 again
B) It sucks that this Marvel cinematic universe™ will have me feel obligated to see anything they put out even if it's Thor 2 quality. Just because it's all tied together.

I'll always remember BvS but that's not necessarily a good thing.

Iron Man 3 is the best Iron Man movie

Truth.

Thor 3 has Jeff Goldblum. It's already the best one.

Even truthier.

"If god is all powerful, then he can't be all good, and if he's all good, then he can't be all powerful, and you're gonna show them tonight"

Makes long shots to give both characters a reason to kill each other playing on their basic instincts. It's not any worse than Zemo's.

The amount of hate this film gets is so weird to me. It's just an average film. Iron Man 2 and Age of Ultron are much worse.

GAF endlessly makes fun of Thor 2 in literally ever superhero movie thread created, and yet you still feel like it is still too well received on GAF. That's amazing. Your hatred of this movie is impressive, Lionel haha

You honestly remembered the movie better than I do. Before reading your post I remembered...a character (which one?) standing in a dark room of dark colored stone and something was glowing. I think the glow was purple.
That was literally all I remembered of this movie. I recall now some of the stuff you described, but still other things you brought up are not in my memory at all. After reading your post I now remember that there was an elf dude played by the 9th Doctor.

I still cant remember Thor ever having a mom even thought that seems like an important plot point.

Thor 3 has Jeff Goldblum. It's already the best one.

It DOES?
Well that settles it. You speak the truth.

Lex's long shots are way longer than Zemo's in Civil War. And what makes them worse is that they're completely unnecessary long shots that do nothing but put Luthor at risk of getting caught. The events in Man of Steel already had Batman gunning for Superman, and the bat-branding shit already had Superman gunning for Batman. Boom. Done. Lex literally just needed to wait things out at that point.

And yet people still don't seem to understand.

Lex hates God because he feels he did not protect him from his dad. In Superman he finally has the physical embodiment of God and projects all his rage on him. He clearly underlines why he hates Superman on the rooftop scene and his speech at the party was another moment where the creators showed aspects of his psyche.

It is really interesting to try and work out what it is exactly that makes Thor 2 one of the most forgettable films of the 21st century.

I mean, what is it specifically about a film with colossal roving inter-dimensional monsters and warrior space vikings that makes it far less memorable than, say, "My Dinner With Andre"?

Legitimate question - is this something explained in the Extended Edition? Because I don't remember any of that from the theatrical cut.

AoU becomes a more disappointing film to me as time passes. I can't watch it without getting irritated at the missed potential.

I actually thought this film was decently liked until I started seeing stuff about it here.

It is, people around here just have a really odd hate-boner for it. It's ultimately pretty harmless, not bad and not great. I'd day it's received as well as it should be outside of GAF fantasy land.

Well they obviously are smarter seeing as how everyone completely missed what the Martha scene actually meant?

People understood the Martha scene just fine, the problem is it was just not that great of an idea and it was executed in abysmal fashion.

I dunno. I do have major issues with Thor 2. Biggest issue is the shitfire of a director they got which isn't something I realized until Terminator Genisys. But I do remember Thor 2 mostly being a servicable movie that had quite a lot of fun moments. At the very least it was consistent even if it was at the lower tier of Marvel movies.

If we want to talk about explicitly boring comic movies then The Amazing Spider-Man deserves that cake. A movie I actively liked less the more I thought about it.

Also yes Iron Man 3 is better than Iron Man 1. It's time to face the music folks.

Seems similar to prequel hate but without the justification.

Wow. If you hate it enough to write that OP, you feel more strongly about it than I've ever felt about a film.

But, just as you said you're "meh" on Batman v Superman (me too), but other people hate it with the passion of 1,000 suns or whatever...well, you hate Thor 2 like that, and I'm "meh".

It was fine. Maybe better than the first Thor, not that that's a high bar.

Also, I liked Iron Man 2 pretty well, but Iron Man 3 sucked.

pfffffffffft

give me a break

Everyone knew what it meant, the problem was "how did we go from Bats trying to kill Supes to suddenly becoming friends with him?"

My mom has the same name as your mom! I will suddenly have a realization, that you're more human than I thought while forgetting my previous ridiculous reasons on how you would destroy the world and possibly bring mankind to chaos, in a matter of seconds.

I don't really disagree with most of the OP, but I think saying it's better than BvS is legitimately acceptable. Because while Thor 2 is forgettable and guilty of pretty much everything you accuse it of, BvS is actively bad and nonsensical. So while you do remember BvS, none of it really makes sense.

I will also say, at the very least Thor 2's climactic fight with all the portals is a pretty creative idea. Probably the most creative thing in the film.

I'm still afraid to watch Thor 2. The first Thor was a big pile of shit and honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. If Thor 2 is worse...

Morbid curiosity might win though.

Everyone knew what it meant, the problem was "how did we go from Bats trying to kill Supes to suddenly becoming friends with him?"

So, based on this, you had no fucking clue what it meant.

Being "okay" is means it's on the high tier of Marvel movies.

I was sitting here being like, "What? Thor 2 was pretty good. From what I remember" Then you described a few scenes and I was like "When the fuck did that shit happen?!" I see your point now.

If a forgettable movie makes it bad, than yeh it's pretty bad. But sitting through it, it isn't like omg this is the worst shit ever imo. to me it's one of those movies you watch once and it's pretty good, but you watch it again and you're just no, one time is enough for me. As opposed to some movies that I couldn't even bare to finish
Indiana Jones & the crystal skull or whatever
