My predictions:

- PS4 Slim launches on September 8th. 500GB $299, 1TB game bundle $349
- Current PS4 model gets $100 price cut.

- Neo launches on either Sept. 29th, Oct. 13th, or Nov. 10th. 1TB $449, 2TB $499. No game bundles.

A journalist contacted them after they sent out those invites and confirmed that there would be a stream.

Let's get this out there, this is where we stand regarding the meeting and livestreaming:

http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/9/12417578/ps4-neo-playstation-meeting-2016-date

Sony’s invitation confirms reports from Gameblog and Vice Gaming yesterday that the company was set to announce a new PS4 next month.

Update: A Sony representative confirmed to Polygon that the company will livestream the PlayStation Meeting, and added, "We'll provide more information as we get closer."

That model is being phased out. It's why less than 6k PS4's were sold in Japan last week. They aren't going to be getting anymore because Sony's replacing it with the slim.

There are still plenty of PS4's around the world according to shipment numbers. It would be a stock clearing price.

Not long now peeps, hope Monday and Tuesday go fast.

I can't stop looking at this lol

I'd expect Sony to allow retailers handle that however they like rather than doing an official price drop. In recent days/weeks we've seen some major deals in Europe in order to try to clear stock. Dell in the US was essentially selling them for $250 as they'd give you a $100 gift card if you purchased one.

I asked at the time if this was official confirmation then why not put a name to the representative? Tomorrow is two days before the event and this states more info closer to the date yet still nothing. Have Sony cut it this fine for such a big event before?

The spanish PS Blog confirms that the event will be streamed in spanish for the region so...

I'm holding out hope for Driveclub, myself. Last I heard there was confirmation that the title would be updated with new urban tracks from the PSVR Driveclub, so hopefully that means they'll do at least minimal work for Neo as well.

There's the Driveckub VR stuff so that gives us hope they've also been working on a 60fps Driveclub for NEO.

European retailers can control the price they sell at but in the US, Sony would need to cut the price themselves for retailers to sell the system at $249 without gift card/game deals.

That's starting to conflate multiple things. Games can run in a wide range of software-defined modes based on anything they want. Easy mode? Hard mode? Stereo mode? Surround mode? Most games have logic that differentiates between these just like a Neo title will be able to distinguish between a 1080p display and a 4K display.

... but what we've seen leaked indicates that the hardware has two very distinct execution modes: Base Mode and Neo Mode. The former is used to approximate the performance and resources available to an original PS4 / PS4 slim to execute titles that were certified on older hardware and therefore may have exhibited quirks when running on Neo hardware without this kind of hardware throttling.

Neo mode makes a significant difference in full clock speed, bandwidth, and GPU resources. All titles released in the near future and beyond will have to be certified and will not have the option to run in Base Mode except on non-Neo hardware.

2K is a resolution, not a frame rate. It's also a meaningless distinction in the context of television standards since it's not a native HDTV standard, so anybody talking about a console connected to a consumer television who talks about 2K almost certainly means 1080p. In that vein 4K is widely used by television manufacturers as a shorthand for 2160p which is the relevant UHD/SUHD standard.

2K is the same as 1080p resolution, but has nothing to do with framerate.

For example, at Sony's E3 2005 press conference, Nvidia's CEO said that the RSX graphics processor for PlayStation 3 would have 2K resolution (2K x 1K )which is 1920 x 1080.

Nice work on the gif, but why? As far as I know, Cerny has nothing to do with Playstation since launch. Maybe a gif for PS5 whilst in the dark for the public, but for a mere remodel?

The PS4 initial reveal was announced and the next day, the 1st of February, 19 days before the meeting, a livestream was announced.

I actually think NBA 2K would be a fucking fantastic way to show off graphics alone in the basketball setting.

Remember the jump from 2k13 to 2k14 next gen? Still is my favorite basketball game this generation, absolutely amazing game. Some of the graphics like textures and court lighting I think looked better then the current iterations. The jump was unreal.

This game alone is actually what sold me on a PS4 and Xbox One......NBA 2k14 is still the greatest basketball game this gen. The opening alone in MyCareer where your player is lying on the carpet and you can see the individual strands was the massive wow factor that 2k hasn't captured from me since.

They could totally blow minds with an amazing trailer for the Neo come Wednesday.

Just because he hasn't been in the spotlight doesn't mean he hasn't been helping out. He was with Kojima on the 10 day tour of various Sony studios to possibly pick out an engine for his game.
and this patent here filed just over a week ago February last year seems to possibly be for the base mode in the Neo:

There really shouldn't be that many PS4's out there as Sony hasn't channel stuffed. For example, in April they announced that they'd shipped 40m PS4. In May they announced that they'd sold through 40m PS4's. They've handled things in Japan where the stock will be dry around the time the slims are scheduled to come in. I'd think they'd try to do the same with the rest of the world.

as for 4K dont even get me started...

Hopefully it releases sooner than later, got a 10% off any item at best buy ready to go!

Just a question, will a 4k TV be useful for gaming on Neo, (I know games won't run at 4k just wondering if it would help) or is it still far too early for 4k gaming tvs?

I hope people don't think the event was cancelled. They've had attendees and the venue booked for months. That's not something you back out of because of a leak.

Mark has worked with Sony for decades so why would he stop now? As of last year he still was so I fully expect he still is. After the PS4'S success Sony will want him on all hardware projects.

Games will run at 4K

Based on the leaks, I think that's a given. 4K native games may not be the rule but we'll still see plenty of games rendered at resolutions better than 1080p and upscaled, and I think the invitation is also a strong clue that Sony is going to make the most of HDR and wide color gamut for titles. Honesty, I'm most excited about improved color representation than I am about the resolution bump.

You seriously need to stop saying that. Sony's own leaked document states that devs were having trouble hitting 4K with a good framerate and Sony advises to aim for a lower res and upscale.

You will not learn until it's plastered in your face on reveal will you?

Edit: These were also probably first part devs who couldn't hit 4K so don't expect 3rd party devs to either.

As of March 31st, 40m PS4's were shipped.

As of May 22nd, 40m PS4's were sold through.

As of June 30th, 43.5m PS4's were shipped.

There was some clear channel stuffing as the most the PS4 would have realistically sold in the 6 weeks between May 22nd and June 30th would been 1 million.

The PS4 sold 4.1m in the first 20 weeks of 2016, or 205,000 a week. Assuming the PS4 sold the same amount up until last week (15 weeks), that's ~43.1m PS4's sold through, which is a generous high bar. That is 400k less than the amount shipped back in June but Sony would've been shipping even more during July and mid August. They probably shipped at least an additional 500k to reach 44m so even then there is, at best, 900k PS4's out in the wild.

Hmm, maybe I wait a tad longer on a 4k TV. The prices of them now are not bad. Hopefully a bit better around February next year.

Hopefully Cerny is on stage again. Would love to see him introduce the Neo as I'd wager he's had a lot to do with it's development as well.

Sony hasn't officially blasted the industry media about the event? Why? They'd want all eyes on the new product they want to sell?
