I don't care that it's speculation, and this thread is all over the place, as I said in the post your quoted. But rampant speculation about BC is silly just because some random person made a comment that it would be in there.

I guess there are just more interesting things to speculate about. But given the number of pages we're on, I'm sure there isn't any ground left to cover regardless.

Have we talked packaging yet?

Here's hoping something akin to the PS2 box:

Instead of BC I would rather the PS2 updates with trophies. BC is not really needed and the low rate on the Xbox One shows this.

Man, wasnt planning on getting Neo with a high end PC

But high quality FFXV (then later on horizon)

Hmm plans to buy without wife seeing and expecting to spend similar money on nonsense...

WTF!!!! I don't get this obsession with BC that some GAF members have. Keep your old console and play the old games on it if you really treasure it so much. Option 2, get PSNow to play older games if you love those old games so much.

I hope Sony or others don't waste time/money on a non-factor like BC which I doubt many people even use it much. I rather they spend those resources on a better hardware/OS/features on the new console.

1) PlayStation Now is laggy compared to the native experience.

2) I don't want multiple consoles hooked up to the TV.

3) Backwards compatibility has been doing great on Xbox One. There is an audience who values backwards compatibility.

I'd pay whatever money Sony wanted for a PS4 that could play PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4/CD/DVD/Blu-Rays all via native hardware and not emulation.

Ok. Starting to feel a small flutter of hype for the event now.
Every Sony keynote since the February 20th 2013 PS4 reveal has been stellar without fail.

would you have Sony investing in backwards compatibility and raising the price of the console to be able to add it?

or would you prefer to use all that investment money from Sony and the added price on the console to have a better CPU/GPU and more powerful system?

Also, Sony will push PS Now as their universal backwards compatibility service, so please, do not expect any kind of backwards compatibility on the Neo.

Let's let it rest for now at least.

The PS4 and even the rebooted PS3 to an extent showed Sony that backwards compatibility really isn't much of a selling point anymore. It's something nice to have, but it's really not going to sway people all that much and as are result it's really not worth investing in the components needed to make it work across the board.

Sony paid $380M for Gaikai so it's unlikely they will include BC for free on the NEO.

You forgot SACD. My launch day PS3 plays SACDs, why doesn't my PS4, damn it?

What about DVD-A? And surely some people still have HD-DVDs.

The Neo absolutely must play all legacy formats, anything else is just evidence for arrogant Sony. It's all so unfair.

Laserdisc, VHS, and Betamax or no buy. Need to see how good those formats can look on a 4K/HDR display.

This nVidia shit again?
The moment nVidia has the best offer to their (Sony/Ms) needs, is the moment nVidia hw is in a console.

Sony and MS has no need for Nvidia though, because they have AMD. And because they have already gone with Nvidia before and those contracts contributed to a lot of what's going on right now

1. Maybe for you but not for everyone...this will get better
2. Deal with it
3. Yes a very small audience

I understand you like BC, but the point is majority don't care much about it. Let's have a better Neo instead of some BC shit worked into it.

Well hopefully they don't waste their time and money on BC at all and increase the price of Neo because of BC in it. That would suck.

BC was only really added as a true extra on launch PS3 and it was very brief at that. The Euro PS3 only had partial BC and it was completely gone in six months. PS2 used the PS1 chipset as I/O IIRC so was a nice bonus more than anything.

BC has never really been a true priority.

What's the general believe on release timeframe for NEO? Will they miss Holiday 2016?

I'm getting a PS4 this year. If NEO isn't coming this year then i'll just skip it and get the slim :/

Ah, the stories, the limited supply that launch year Christmas, and the tales of my parents sleeping in the Walmart parking lot for two days with other parents in freezing temps just to get me one......

They didn't decide to hold a special unveil event in September for no reason. It's coming this year.

I don't understand why Sony doesn't promote the event more. It's less than a week now.

They don't need to promote the event. Everyone who needs to know about it (the media, mostly) knows about it. The world will wake up to pictures and articles about the Neo/4k/whatever it's called on Sept. 8th.

I heard the Neo is the culmination of ALL the PlayStations. Not only will you get a fully functioning PS3 within, but also a PS2 and as well as a PS1.

Japanese code named: Matryoshka.
Is all I'm gonna say, feel?

Might actually be truth to this because of the Mark Cerny patent for emulating older consoles with spoof clock & fine grain frequency control.

United States Patent Application 20160246323
Kind Code A1
Cerny; Mark Evan ; et al. August 25, 2016
BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY THROUGH USE OF SPOOF CLOCK AND FINE GRAIN FREQUENCY CONTROL

If you have a really really fat child, would you enter him/her in a swimsuit contest?

Edit: onQ123 ahaha lawwwd, careful man. I don't want BRock catching more feels.

I would love for it to have bc for ps3, I don't even touch my ps3 because rest mode has spoiled me. But it's not gonna happen with them trying to push ps now and all.
