Sony announces PS4 Pro, $399, November 10th

Before the presentation, i was sure of buying the new PS4 but that presentation actually made me reconsider. It was uninspired and it felt as if Sony didn't believe in the product themselves. No specs, no actual game demonstrations and it feels as if they got very little support from developers on this one. It's crazy how Sony is going to ruin the advantage and goodwill they managed to built with PS4.

Keep the hot takes coming!!!!!

Overall it feels abit like a poor mans step instead of a decent step. Triggered by the normal PS4 not being strong enough for PSVR,

I don't care about the PS4 Pro not having a 4K Blu-ray player. I don't have a 4K TV I don't even buy Blu-rays. So I'm glad instead of including it and raising the price over 400 I get at least a $400 price. But now I have to be convinced to actually buy the thing

Seems odd that they wouldn't include it, but I suppose since the majority of 4K content will be consumed digitally, its probably not a big deal to most people.
I haven't really decided if I'm going to buy it yet, definitely not buying it this year. May pull the trigger on it at some point next year if the right deal/bundle comes along. For now I'm more than happy with my launch PS4.

Overall, I do have to say that I'm happy that I'm not feeling forced to buy a PS4 Pro, it will make the PS5 feel more important when that comes around in 3-4 years.

So, as someone who planned to pick up a PS4, but waited until now to hear about the Pro, is there any real reason to grab the newer model over the Slim if I don't have a 4KTV? I might end up with one eventually (I've been itching to get a bigger TV and the 4Ks are reasonable), but that's still up in the air.

What a fucking disappointment. Off to get my Xbox One S right now.

Fucking hell Sony.

You got clowned by Microsoft's $299 system in that department. No excuses. Where's Rigby and his patches to solve this?

so i'm a dummy, explain to me how i can play 4k games when it doesn't have a 4k disc drive? are they saying it will just upscale all 1080p games to 4k?

HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA hahahahaha oh man. Sony gonna Sony. Had a good couple of years then RIGHT back to business as always.

Ps+ pointless now, increased price, uninspired console designs, might as well throw the Spider-Man font on it for maximum lazy "you're gonna buy it you filthy peasant" attitude

Serious question: is there any clear advantage of upscaling games to 4K directly by the console rather than the TV?

Like, if your 4K TV does a good job upscaling 1080p to 4K (and most certainly do it well as 4K scales perfectly to 1080p), how about selecting 1080p output on the PS4 Pro settings so you get all the non-4K graphics and framerate benefits, and let the TV upscale to 4K?

The only thing left I need to know is if Pro mode games can be played at 60FPS in full HD. If it can't, that's a huge disappointment.

Pretty underwhelmed but I'll need a Ps4 for Persona 5, so might as well get the Pro if I've waited this long.

Hoping Until Dawn is on the list of patched games, as that could do with a boost to smooth out the frame rate.

As I get further into the thread, these post not only get worse, but make less sense.

Anyone else experiencing this?

bookmarked for when 4k still doesn't matter, budget PS4 & PS4 Pro continue to outsell everyone else to everyone's 'shock' despite their 'shortcomings'.

I originally thought it was dumb not to include HDR on the Slim (apparently that's happening) but not including 4K Blu-Ray on the high end model is so bizarre and off-brand for Sony.

The Xbox One S looks better after this event. You know MS is going to be damn near giving those things away this holiday season.

I really want to see a side by side comparison of a game running on PS4 and PS4p. I know they did it in the stream but that was so fast and not very convincing tbh

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
The biggest problem with this presentation is that we're leaving with more questions than answers.

  • Are games being rendered at 4K or simply upscaled?
  • What are the console specs beside 1Tb HDD?
  • If I have a 1080p display, the enhancements will be automatic or they need to be patched?
  • What kind of enhancements 1080p TVs can get? Supersampling? Better graphics? More fps?
  • Dos it have a fucking 4K BD player??

Mandatory 1080P 60 FPS
on games that are coming after November 10?
And maybe some older games will get a patch like bloodborne drive club, uncharted 4?

Everything about this says "we just fear The Personal Computer™", because it sounds like a half-assed very specific kneejerk reaction. They are throwing proper bluray support out the window just so they can get it out (and probably because they want to sell more of their own bluray players), a "gotta keep going, I absolutely gotta keep going strong" defensive strategy.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
I understand the naming of iPad Pro, because it's meant to appeal to people using their tablets for work.

So what is meant to be "Professional" about playing games? A few eSports players? Developers?

Please answer this for me, GAF. I heard Cerny in say PS4 pro will deliver 4k and HDR on those sets, and the PS4 Pro will add additional effects, lighting, environmental density, etc on 1080p sets.

My question - Do you also get the additional effects allowed on the 1080p sets on the 4K sets? Or on the 4K sets is it one or the other?

PS4 PRObably not
Heyooo!!
