Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

Can't access dlc in game or anything. Can't even go to the Window store within the game without it crashing. I find it hard to believe that they tested this game on PC and releasedo it like this. I mean this is happening to everyone n it seems like.

Microsoft clearly doesn't actually care about the quality of their PC ports. Hell, their BC ports show more sign of work than this or Quantum Break.

What a mess. Can't believe I had less than a fucking gig left to download before it jumped back to zero. Guess I won't be able to post impressions until tomorrow.

Servers are fucked right now, might be related to the not starting issue as Window 10 needs to connect to the servers to verify license.

GTX 1080 at 2ghz
16GB DDR4 3000mhz
i5 6600k at 4.4ghz
XB271 gsync 1440p144hz

All settings on Ultra
Frame rate unlocked
Motion blur on
Dynamic Optimization on
Framerate smoothing on
gsync on

Averaging anywhere from 60-80fps until I get into the city and then it stutters down to around 45-50. Most of the time I'm at or above 60, though.

I did:

Reboot PC
Disable Avast (not uninstall)
Reinstall Nvidia drivers from scratch through geforce experience
Disable microphone
Unplug second screen

Nothing does it, won't go past that splash screen.

How did you disable the microphone? Via Device Manager or Recording Devices (via the system tray)? I had to do it via the system tray in order for it to work.

If it's anything like mine, it's crashing at the Forza Horizon splash screen window that opens when you start the game.

It was LIT-RALLY working like 30 minutes ago :(

Yeah I'm just wondering because mine was working then it started to ctd at the PG logo. A restart wouldn't fix it I had to totally shut down a couple of times and then it started working again. Really weird. It's done that a couple of times and I've had to shut down Completely and reboot.

Sooo it seems like it's finally time to get rid of my great old GTX670 and possibly 2500K. Until now I just didn't feel the neccessity to buy new stuff - I've been able to play everything on at least medium/high combo (literally everything that interests me) @1080p, but looking at your reports is very concerning.

I just hope that the stuttering will be fixed, I was incredibly happy that Forza will come out on PCs.

Yea im having the same issue, was literally playing this shit a few hours ago. Come home from work and can't even get past the Turn 10 Studios splash screen. I knew i shoulda waited till launch day lol

So here's a fun one, I gained full access to the stupid windowsApps folder, because I wanted to copy the game from my one pc to the other, well no matter what the fucking shit won't let me paste it... there's no way I can download this again this month with my Rogers bullshit Internet caps, why the hell is this happening?? The files must be secretly encrypted or some shit...

Woooooo, these hitches in the jungle area are something else. It's so bad that it's affecting my driving. Was bearable up until this area.

I fixed those ads for you guys, you're welcome.

Definitely experiencing stuttering @ 1440p Ultra with 8xMSAA and FXAA. FPS is ~45-70, and I'm using G-SYNC.

i7 4930k @ 4.3ghz
32GB DDR3 @ 1600mhz
Titan X (Maxwell)
Installed on my SSDs in RAID 0

Also somewhat annoying, photo mode seems to be a lower resolution than native? It's definitely blurrier than in-game. Scrolling through upgrade items is about the laggiest experience ever, too, especially when selecting wheels. The game hiccups every time I scroll over to one.

Lan Dong Mik

And why would I want them?
Has anyone successfully received a refund for something they purchased on the MS store? I'm about to request one since this game won't even download for me. Was at 35gb, now it's back to zero. I don't want to deal with this shit anymore :(

Edit: stuck downloading it twice because windtard 10 won't let me copy it over to the second PC. Good news so far I can get a solid 60fps on ultra with my i7 6700k, Gtx 1070 G1, 16gb ddr4 3200, Samsung 950 Pro. I did the nvidia power max setting so no stuttering at all so far, don't think it's possible to have a hardware bottleneck on my PC though lols

Also wtf @ needing an xbox one to reset save data?!

I tried locking it to 30fps on PC but it didn't feel nearly as good as Xbox version (which runs at 30fps). Is it just me or is something actually going on there?

What's going on is that it's clearly a quick port from X1's 30fps experience to W10 and it shows this whole X1 to W10 thing isn't as simple as they say it is . Doesn't seem to be working well with intel CPUs as im seeing people recommend turning off hyperthreading...

1080 Founders Edition
24Gb RAM (Yeah, I know. I upgraded from 2x4 modules to 2x8 modules and thought "why don't I just put all of them in").

2560x1080 (21:9) monitor

I can get it locked at 30 throughout the game (Surfer's Paradise included) with Dynamic Resolution active and the Dynamic settings on Ultra.

If I turn the 30FPS lock off these settings give me 50-60 out in the country and 30-40 in the city but the stuttering when it transitions is awful so I'm finding a locked 30 more acceptable than a variable mess.

I think is is turning something down in the city though - something seems a bit off with the specularity of the buildings so maybe it's tweaking things on the fly to hit 30 in the city. Regardless - if there's any hitches as it does so I'm not picking them up with is set to 30.

Oh, I have frame smoothing on too and the Nvidia Control Panel 3D slider set to prefer performance.

Alright, so now the game crashes everytime on the Playground games logo.

As excellent as the game itself is, everything around it makes me never want to buy anything from the Windows Store ever again.

Tried Forza Apex before deciding if I should dive in this and I thought that was decent, did the first races with everything on Dynamic except for AF. No noticeable stuttering, W10 anniversary, latest Nvidia drivers (372), power/performance mode.

That's free though, this is 99.99 , kinda hard to take a leap of faith for this price.

I wish more PC racing games had decent presentation like this (menus, etc, not graphics).

Hmmm. I'll try tweaking it again tomorrow. I don't have G-Sync though but that shouldn't matter to the actual framerate, just someone's perception of it, right?

I never really got my head around G-Sync but loads of people say it's great.

Well this topic has convinced me not to get a new pc so that's good at least.

It's one game, and barring dumpster fires like Arkham Knight, most big budget games get patches that fix performance fairly quickly. In this case id bet it gets fixed quickly as it's the first big AAA title for play anywhere. In a week you'll be playing a far superior version to the consoles.

A 6600k, 16Gb of RAM and a 1070 getting auto detected at medium settings
:^)

Yup, same system and same result, but I moved mine up to Ultra and @ 1080p I'm getting around 60 fps.

Right now I'm using the DSR 3840x2160 resolution and I get between 40-45 fps.

When I first started playing the game would crash at the intro vids. So I deleted Avast (something I should have done awhile ago anyway) and it fixed the problem right away.

And no disabling Avast didn't fix it, I had to uninstall it so Windows Defender would reactivate itself.

Did that, still crashing.

Very glad I didn't decide to preorder. Stuttering is my number one pet peeve (along with input lag) so I'm glad I'm not having to go through and change a bunch of options just to get a stutter free experience. I'll pick this up if they fix it.

If this is the measure of why you decided not to purchase a PC, then you must not own any gaming devices.

PS4? Nope no Man's sky was crashing for a week, and the Witcher 3 ran like crap for like 6 months.

Xbox one? Nope, 900p lol, Master chief Colection has no online for severla months, and a lot of gmes suffer from performance issues.

And when was the last time you didn't have to reboot your phoe cause some app froze?

Such a shame that such a great game is tucked behind this terrible storefront.

Knowing how Microsoft's certification works I would imaging it would be almost 2 weeks before a patch will appear.

Just as an experiment, I dropped my resolution to 1600x900 to see if it would iron things out.

I still get hard dips from 60fps into the mid-40s every 10 seconds or so, and massive hitches around structures (houses, buildings) with relatively sustained low-50's, where the controls become unbearably sluggish and unresponsive -- with and without vsync enabled.

Can't get 30fps to feel smooth with or without vsync enabled as well -- to me, it feels as if it definitively lacks the controller response of the moments of smooth 60fps gameplay I can get or the XB1 version which is also locked to 30fps. I don't have tools to measure frame pacing right now but I definitely feel there's a lack of controller response in those instances too, despite the 30fps counter never budging. I haven't tried to adjust my monitor to 30Hz

For background, game defaulted to "High" preset with the dynamic setting on when I first booted it up.

Again, this is playing on my gaming laptop: MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro (068 configuration)

- i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz
- GTX 1060 6GB
- 16GB DDR4 2400MHz
- 512GB SSD (PCI-E m.2 slot)

Feel like my spec is confirming the theory that the game relies on high clock speeds across the board (CPU, GPU, RAM) in its current state. Bit of a shame. I'm not super cool with the idea of rebooting into my BIOS to toggle hyperthreading on/off when I wanna play Forza, so I'm just going to stick to XB1 for now and hope they can sort it out for lower clocked machines, if at all possible. Sad no 60fps Horizon 3 for now.

My game was crashing at the playground logo too, I just went onto the FH3 page on the store and it asked me to download something, an update maybe, and after that it worked fine.
