Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Yr Anniversary Edition |OT| Hello from the other side

I just started the game. How far do I have to advance in the story to be able to try the VR mode? Thanks for your help.

Edit: I found it

I'm about half way through by the looks and just finished the Baba Yaga mission (the rope thing I certainly couldn't wrap my head around for the puzzle to get to her). But the lag/gunplay kinda ruins the game sadly. When you're not having to aim and fight the game is rather enjoyable. But trying to be accurate or quick in doing anything while aiming just goes out the window. And it drags the whole game down somewhat because of it.

Feels a bit like browsing Gaf over the past day.

I hope this will not be an issue on the Pro.
Shouldn't be an issue ar all.
Is that a pipeline problem, with everything going in in the game?

I'm enjoying the game a lot on pc, but man, did they have to include so many collectibles? It's crazy, they totally went overboard. Yeah, I guess you could ignore them, but most are really helpful. It's just that there's so many, it kills the pacing for me.

Also quick question, when/how do you unlock the retro-Lara-skin? I can't find it in the outfit-menu, it seems.

You can more or less safely ignore the survival caches, coin caches and challenges unless going for 100%. You'll have more than enough money for a few purchases in the shop, resources to craft with, and skill points without any of them.

Well whaddya know, got the non-shitty version from ebay which I honestly didn't expect.

There seems to be a nasty bug near the end that stops progression. I googled "rise of the tomb raider trebuchet bug" and found an easy solution. Just so that you know.

Being honest, I can not aim for shit in this game. Even with a guy right in front of me. I'm terrible. I hope there aren't too many big gun fights, i'd be happy to spend the whole game exploring and doing puzzles.

Just bought it and downloading it now. Loved the first one so looking forward to this. Thankfully i've avoided spoilers for a year (!!!!).

You can get through many of the encounters using only stealth.

I wanted to upgrade the pistol and apparently I have 6 pistols at the start of the game now? Is that normal or did my game glitch to give me late game stuff.

Maybe those are DLC guns? After all, the PS4 version comes with the DLC packed-in. (I don't have the PS4 version, though, and I haven't bought any of the DLC so I can't really be sure.)

Finished this like 5 minutes ago.

I really, really liked it. I think it's even better than the first one. I didn't have any input lag problem (I compared mine to one video I saw and my response is immeadite) so I enjoyed even the fights.

I didn't bothered to sneak around, I went in gun blazing like in my opinion Croft should. After upgrading stuff and getting better weapons the fights are absolutely exhilarating. Lara becomes such a killing machine that's really no stopping her. This was the regular difficulty btw.

The platforming in this game is just phenomenal. Controls are responsive and excluding couple single instances I always knew where I should be going and which way that is. Maybe once or twice Lara refused to grab hold of a ledge etc. but that might have been my fault too. Other than that traversing in this game is just so enjoyable. And so are the tombs - there were one or two which were a bit more difficult than the others but in general their difficulty level is on the lower end which is fine for me - they are great experiences and mostly very, very well built. Though I think I prefer the tombs of the first game a bit more - there were some crazy ideas like the wind tomb or whatever it was really called.

If I compare (and why wouldn't I?) Rise to Uncharted 4e, my vote goes to Tomb Raider. Uncharted has the better script, it is better written, characters are more lively and funny - but as a GAME, Tomb Raider is in my opinion clearly above Uncharted. Whereas Uncharted's climbing and traversal felt at times like a chore, it is never that in Tomb Raider. Also the pace is very different. Both have great set-pieces too. Rise had a grander ending, in my opinion.

Oh, I ran into another bug even closer to the end. Before a cinematic I as greeted by a black screen when the next scene should've started. Had to start the game again and then it worked.

Edit: If anything, I would like the globe-trotting of the old Tomb Raiders to make a return, more locations, more exotic locations! And vehicles, motorcycles! That would be sweet!

Got a question about the game while i'm downloading it. One thing i hated, really hated about the previous game were the death scenes for Lara. I fucking hated them, way too gruesome for me. Almost felt like torture porn. Turned the game from a 9 to an 8 for me. Are they still in Rise?

I haven't seen one as gruesome as when she's impaled on a metal pole during the river part. But generally, yes.

Gonna try to finish the game today. And do the Blood Ties DLC, really excited for it.

Shame, yeah that one in particular was truly awful. Wish they would give the option to skip em and go straight over to the game over scene.

I know what you mean. I found the guns and stuff to be quite unresponsive at the start of the game, and I died several times because I couldn't hit a guy in open view. It might have to do with the input lag reported by amongst others Digital Foundry. After some time (two hours or so) I started to feel more accustomed to the controls (conditioned to think in lag?), and around halfway through I no longer notice it (just cleared a big enemy encounter quite efficiently on Seasoned Raider difficulty). It sucks, but you can get used to it for sure.

What ever you do, don't fall into a spike pit LOL.

Am I the only one experiencing a weird thing when streaming to twitch - on other games I can stream in HD (720 and 1080), but the highest option I get when starting a stream in this game is 540p.

What's the issue here?

Well, to the developers defense the original Tomb Raiders also had pretty brutal Lara-deaths. But to answer your question, yes, I do enjoy them.

Fair enough. I remember putting the game down in disgust several times when i were playing it. Anyways, Rise is now finished downloading, off to raid some tombs!

They just need to fix the dead zone. If you move the stick very slowly nothing will happen until you get past a certain point. Easy fix. But who knows if they will patch it...

No it was not immediate.

Posts like that are so funny.

He seems to actually think his copy of the game is magically different. Like, he's got two options:

A) His identical copy of a video game somehow operates differently from all over copies

B) He's wrong

Better go with A

Oh, you don't have manners. Sorry I didn't understand that, I would've talked down to you sooner.

A) I'm the only one who's not having input problems

B) Because of A this problem seems to be in some way related to some problem with TV or PS4 model or something else. Idk.

How the hell is it so difficult to be POLITE and try to come up possibilities that "there may be there are some people who don't have this particular problem I'm personally having" - instead of labeling all these other people blind idiots.

Making a problem universal because "I'm having it" - when it evidently isn't because there are people saying they don't have this problem - is induction. And that is just stupid. Because in my post I didn't say NO ONE DOESN*T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I just don't.

Edit: And to be exact, this is the video I'm comparing to:

Is there a lot of gameplay here or is it a short game?
Thanks.

I'd say there probably 15 hours of main story to go through, and this is where your gun fights and stealth action will come from (there is a good amount of those in there). Besides that, there are puzzles in the form of tombs that give some extra gameplay. The rest, however, often feels like filler and can easily be skipped. So adding main story and tombs, you'll be looking at around 20 hours of real gameplay (where "real" is defined as 'not just running around finding loot and relics and other stuff').

Yeah I think that might be the only really gruesome one. The torture porn was pretty annoying in TR2013 ( going down the river and all the way to Shantytown was so fucking ridiculous especially), but they did tone it down a bit in this game.

I'm sure that sounded a lot cooler in your head.

This isn't a matter of opinion. This is a tangible, repeatable feedback mechanism. Parts of it are immutable.

Parts like the input lag. Your inability to perceive it speaks only to your personal reflexes, or lack thereof, and not to magical properties conferred to your game disk.

The input lag you are referring to would effect everyone.
their lack of reflexes and being unable to notice it would not make them better than you with the input lag, they would have more of a problem with it.
The lag is there, no doubt but I found it amusing you mentioned reflexes as a reason he don't see it.

It literally does not matter what you say, it is a problem that affects every single copy of the game no matter whether you notice it or not.

It has nothing to do with the TV or the PS4 you're using, it's the game.

You're wrong.

Last couple of chapters or so left I think now. Looking forward to wrapping it up and moving on to DQ Builders. Kind of wish this came out at a bit quieter time over the summer so I had more time to complete things but trying todo as much as I can.

It's a good game. Not U4 level good however. There's definitely a difference in quality between the two titles. Rise, you could say was a year too late to the party after U4 release, but on its own it's a very solid title, slightly let down by its head scratching input lag.

Started this a couple of hours ago. It's my second playthrough though; first being the other version which was great.

Man, this game has a great opening and is fucking gorgeous to boot.

Is anyone else seeing some weird line artifacts or snow (the old TV-like kind, not the literal snow) during the dark scenes about an hour in? When you're awakened at camp.

Also, how is Baba Yaga unlocked? I didn't play it before.

Finally got to a point where combat becomes semi-regular. Well shit, you guys weren't kidding, the aiming is pretty bad. Dual analog aiming in general is already garbage but this is like, advanced garbage. There's the usual 30fps input delay but this goes beyond >.>

Simple stuff like that first trap very early on that requires you to shoot the weak spot to break it is significantly harder than it should be because of it.

You unlock it as you play through. It's available at some point in the Soviet Installation.

Finished, 100%, playing Blood Ties now. Here's my bullet point review.

Positive:

- beautiful game. Syria is stunning. Great locations.
- good score and VA.
- optional tombs are a true delight this time. They kinda peaked for me with the second one but the rest were still good. The final one was a little meh but overall, way improved over TR13.
- puzzles in general were more involved.
- traversal is still fun
- addition of optional missions was a good idea i'd say.
- Lara's a lot more in line with her old self, not saying shit about hating tombs and generally not seeming like being a true explorer.
- story is typical stuff but I appreciate the fact that there are far less annoying AF sidekicks here. I would still say it's better than TR13.
- great amount of content
- the final boss is actually a really fun and cool encounter.

Cons:

- the already discussed to death issues with shooting. The few deniers can deny it all they want, but it does exist and it does make the gunplay weaker than TR13. Also still missing features like shooting while hanging from a ledge and blindfire.
- Lara never shuts up if you use survival instinct while in a puzzle room.
- final parts of the game are very much TR13 retreads
- still a reliance on set pieces, though some are cool. But it's feeling stale and predictable, Lara still gets the shit beat out of her because the universe hates her I guess.

Overall a great game, worth full price, and I truly hope a third game is made. Scorewise, an easy 8.5, possibly a 9 if not for the aiming. Luckily it's not Uncharted 3 levels of "how the hell did they ship this." Speaking of, my personal wishlist for a third game

1. Dual pistols. It's time.
2. Globe trotting adventure. Rise has a tease with that but that's it. They can even get away with flashbacks style as long as there are more locations. I get what they're going for, but I can think they can mold what they have to fit more locations.
3. No stupid
supernatural
shit, it's annoying and not even implemented well. If they actually put some effort into the enemies, cool, but since I don't see that happening, don't even try.

Does anyone else who's played Blood Ties think Camilla Luddington sounds vastly different as Lara here? I almost questioned if it's even her. Especially during recital of the relic blurbs.

I have a problem with aiming and moving the camera with the right analog stick. It moves considerably slower to the left, like 50 percent slower at least. This doesn't make the game completely unplayable (probably would on the highest difficulty level) but it's really annoying.

Seems like it's a software issue. Why else would the right analog stick work perfectly normal with the web browser and Uncharted 4 for instance?

Anyone else have this problem?
