Yeah I was wondering the same thing. It could be a promotional picture provided to developers to show what the devkit they're ordering looks like. I don't know if that's a thing though.

I've typed in PS4 DevKit, XBox One Devkit, WiiU Devkit, etc. etc.on Google and all the pictures that come up are of the devkits in a real world environment, I can't find any that show a "professional" image like this one. Most devkits are bulky and ugly, I dont think devs would care for what it looks like since thats not going to be the retail unit so to make a picture to show them what it looks like just doesn't seem plausible. If its to show what each port and button does then they'd get a document that looks like this:

PS4-dev-kit1.jpg

So im calling fake.

That picture, if real, is clearly a dev unit. I don't know why people think that's the final product. It's like the antithesis of what Nintendo's image is.

I can see it. Red Dead Redemption forced Nintendo to reveal the NX as Take two would reveal it anyway. NX version confirmed.

I don't think the dock is in that picture. It just looks like the screen portion in two different angles.

Yeah thats what it looks like. But two separate exhausts and one coming from the screen means something. If it splits up into scd and screen ontroller unit. How do they interface?

Another guy from this thread would call you crazy for that.

I agree with you, although I just think Nintendo wanted to reveal the NX now, and Rockstar thought it would be a good idea to show the trailer the same day to be able to confirm all the platforms.

FYI, I've seen devkits (especially previous Nintendo ones) that are shown like this (and looked like this with the coaxial ports).

Not all devkit purchasing forms just show sketch document images, some are professional looking photographs. There's a difference between Googling devkits and actually having access to devkit order forms.

This could be fake, but the type of photo wouldn't be the reason why.

Do tell where this actively cooled handheld is going to land now, haha.

Well, crunching my numbers, assuming ~10-15W TDP for the full SoC (on the upper end of what would be feasible given battery life, but Emily Rogers did say battery life was poor), you'd be looking at:

If it's 2 Pascal SMs, clock speed around 1.5GHz and around 750 Gflops FP32 / 1500 Gflops FP16

If it's 3 Pascal SMs, clock speed around 1.3GHz and around 1 Tflop FP32 / 2 Tflop FP16

If it's 4 Pascal SMs, clock speed around 1.2GHz and around 1.2 Tflop FP32 / 2.4 Tflop FP16

Plus a pretty beastly CPU.

Even the first would stomp on any smartphone GPU and in theory be capable of close to PS4 visuals at 720p. That has me suspicious, though, as all the reliable sources have been saying it doesn't compete in power with PS4/XBO, and the above aren't that far off. Potentially I'm massively overestimating the TDP they're hitting, or perhaps there is a docked mode where the clock speeds increase and the fan turns on, and whichever dev has been leaking details simply hasn't been made aware of it yet, with their hardware running at portable clocks.

Honestly I don't know what to think anymore. I'm going to go curl up in a ball in the corner of the room and rock gently back and forth for a while.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Okay guys it's been a fun 2 hours, but I seriously need to get back to work. See everybody on the flip!

Laura's dropping bombs on twitter, specs before the end of the month.

Agreed. That fan vent, though...

If they've gone as far as custom moulding a case, then it would make sense that it's a relatively final dev kit. Which means that if it's actively cooled, the final product probably is too...

Time to update my NX performance spreadsheet.

Umm blu, does that mean I need to get my Peach costume ready? :)

Umm.....ohhh shit.

Oh, NCL said it's 3 min? Well, that's in Japan Time. We know from Smash updates that three minutes in Japan Time is actually three eternities.

So I have highlighted the curious things I noted and what I think is what from the potential dev kit.

The "dock" is not how I expected this thing to dock at all, its flush with the entire back. And second, both units have heat exhaust?

What the fuck is in each part?

I presume, if it's the case, that it'll function kinda like the Surface Book. Some graphical capability built into the tablet, enough to drive it, but the real-deal graphics hardware are in the base and enumerated when docked.

Interesting that it sounds like they are keeping the NX name. Is this the first time in history that the codename was kept as the official name?
