It's a handheld, powered by Tegra. It's not going to be as powerful as a PS4/Xbox One. Likely it'll be as powerful as a Wii U/Xbox 360. So for example, Skyrim can run on it. Fallout 4? Probably not. 360-era GTA V should work, but not the PS4/X1 port etc.

Best for everyone to keep their expectations in check. Don't expect all the PS4/X1 games coming out will be able to run on this.

those burgers look pretty horrible. What's going on with the meat?

They aren't burgers bro, it's a roast beef sandwich.

This thing would smoke the Wii U/360.

Also ports are all about architecture, this will be able to run almost all X1/PS4 games as long as the games are scaled.

I want to know their stance on online subscription.

Sigh, wish they have sold the big reveal date.

Im hoping for free online but a subscription service like Netflix/EAAccess that lets you access most games from nintendos back catalogue for 7-10 dollars a month. Seems like a great way to build community good will

From a CPU standpoint the NX will have parity with the PS4/Xbox one while if the latest devkit rumours are true the GPU will be >5X the Xbox360 and almost 3X a WiiU so it should comfortably be able to play PS4 ports in either 540p or Checkerboard 1080p

But will they really do that? The development coats of an NS game will be much higher than for a 3DS game. So they won't just put the handheld games on the NS if they aren't sure they sell extremly well. In the WORST CASE SCENARIO Nintendo loses even the third party developer that always supported their handhelds when their games dont sell well...

Higher specs don't necessarily mean you must use more detailed assets. Development costs on switch will be probably lower, because more standard tools and engines are available and you don't need to optimise the hell out of the code to run the game smoothly.

Whenever there's a new console they get together a list of partnerships. Whether they pan out is a completely different question.

This graphic does tell us one important thing though: Platinum games is still alive. That's good.

This is the dream, really, but that's so unlikely it's (almost) not worth getting hyped over. A Dark Souls 3 port "definitive edition" would be a lovely compromise, and/or any future From titles.

Either way, I hope the partnership materialises in some way.

I wouldn't personally expect down-ports of current gen games too often. The power gap between the Maxwell Tegra and Xbox One is likely to be fairly big, like if it turned out to be 1/2 as powerful as the baseline XBO I would be quite surprised.

Skyrim seems plausible, and something cross-gen like Dark Souls 2 where there's both versions available seems plausible also.

I wonder if this thing will have Mass Effect Andromeda on it. I mean, both are supposed to come out in March, right?

Unlikely IMO but I could see a port of the ME trilogy edition or something.

We know Sony has and is putting a lot of money behind it. It's not coming to Switch either. Having said that, I fully expect Tekken 7 on it. Seems like a given. I'd also kill for a Guilty Gear Xrd port.
Perhaps though given the game's continued underperformance who knows. Will Sony really continue throwing money down the hole? Switch's quasi-handheld and technical next gen status may fall outside previous contract terms too. It's not like the Nintendo audience hasn't strongly supported SF when given the opportunity either.

I'm not surprised really, I think Nintendo is keeping that family oriented brand they have.

Nintendo at its most family-friendly was E3 2008... where they had a GTA game for DS without even having any footage, and screamed it from the rooftops with joy anyway.

If Rockstar wanted to make Switch games already, they'd be on the list. Nintendo would kill for their support from the get-go.

Retro? Why Retro? :V

Wut?

People toss around the idea of Donkey Kong 3D or Startropics as their Retro dream game, I would prefer if they tackled Nazo No Murasame as a 3D combat-oriented adventure game. Could even use the same engine as Breath of the Wild, with less focus in exploration/puzzles. The Kid Icarus Uprising treatment. Also, imagine David Wise doing a rearrangement of this:

I could totally see Nintendo + FROM making a Nintendo exclusive Souls-like. Seems like a style that Nintendo only people might love..

Yep, like I already wrote in another thread, for me the Souls-games (and some indies) are the only modern games i like outside of the Nintendo-plattforms, so for me, this would probably lead me to sell my PS4.

Codemasters means hopefully a nice racing sim on a Nintendo console again.
Telltale hopefully means adventure games and if Switch has touch screen (or the joy pads had IR) it would be ideal for them

Platinum Games will be the one that will develop a character action game starring Takamaru, just watch.
I wish.

I would never count chickens before they hatch in regards to software support for new Nintendo hardware at this point.

At the end of the day, as long as Nintendo insists on keep delivering under-powered hardware they will ultimately be left behind in the gaming space. Its very simple really, there are 3 popular platforms devs get to take advantage of by making a game to 1 spec, whereas the under-powered offerings nintendo delivers requires substantial redesign to work.

Mark my words, this system will lose 3rd party support after a year or two.

The only way it doesnt is it becomes a new Wii and sells truckloads along with high game sales beyond a wii sports.

I mean i am still even contemplating picking it up if the price is right cause Ninty games are still great, but there are only so many of those.

At least, if we're talking about the Japanese market, there are many games, even for consoles, that clearly don't even attempt to take full advantage of their hardware in order to keep budget low. I don't see why the Switch would change that.

Besides, where would that handheld support go? All to mobile, which is a fairly different market?

Gonna pretend we did not see this same screen of "partners" at the start of Wii U and be hopeful... again.

Has a screen cap of that list been put up in this thread yet? The WiiU list I mean. I don't remember it having nearly that many.

I saw the 3DS one and pretty much all of the Japanese partners on that list are still with the system so..

Nah, lack of support on the Wii U really had nothing to do with flopzzz. The console didn't natively support any of the engines third party devs were using for their games. Switch doesn't have this problem.

Pretty much. I want to believe but we've seen this story before. Partners were talked up for both the Wii U and N64, before ultimately resulting in a level of support that disappointed the majority of people.

It's okay to be hopeful but keep in mind that this narrative has played out poorly in the past.

Would TMS even be worth porting?

I now they have to change the way the phone works in that game.

Maybe they could sense if you turn the gamepad on it side. It would be like a big smartphone in landscape. I hope they do port it. It's a great game that was held back by being on the rotting corpse of the Wii U.

But seriously does anyone have a photo of the slide of Wii U partners that everyone keeps referencing in this thread but no one has shown yet?

It would be valuable to compare.

You show a lack of understanding of how little an 'engine' means to game development. Like i said, significantly under-powered hardware will cause 3rd party pubs a heck of a lot more work than its worth to redesign their ambitious games for a down-port if sales aren't incredible.

This list means jack fucking shit to me.

It's easy to put your name on a list. It's another to deliver the games people want.

A good number of people were saying Nintendo would get zero third party support/zero Western third party support over the last 18 months or so, so yes it does mean something.

Obviously what games these companies release means a lot as you say, but they've easily exceeded expectations as far as this step goes.

I'll be shocked if GTA V didn't show up. People would quad dip for a handheld GTA V

Yeah, it'll run it and the game still sells a ton. Makes sense.
