Seems to big for a handheld and not powerful enough for A modern home console. It'll attract Nintendo die hards I'm curious about the mass market though.

The promo is already at 8 million views. Only 1.3 million more to pass the BotW trailer as the most viewed video on Nintendo's channel.

Number one in trending too. It's really capturing some great attention, despite really just focusing on actors staring at blank screens.

I know it's very un-Nintendo, but the shape of those bottom triggers certainly leaves it as a possibility.

Well, they did do it (better than anyone else I might add) from the GC in 2001 until that lawsuit and the subsequent Classic Controller Pro, so we'll just have to wait and see. One thing going for them is that they're pretty much needed if there's ever a Sunshine HD port or perhaps a GC Virtual Console. Even games like Melee used the analogue information in determining shield density.

The GC's analogue triggers were heaven.

I just want to know the price of this thing before guessing its fate.

Anything over the 299 whatever will kill the switch faster than the wii U.

In the meantime I see the historical Nintendo at work, going firmly in its own direction, i see them giving zero fuck again on having a decent 3rd party support, trying to blend their shrinking handheld and dying home userbase in one big pool.

The concept may be cool, but i can't see people carrying the switch just to play and a smartphone along with it.
So i see them as they have sacrificed for a doubtful mobility usp the whole system.

And then remains to be seen one big point, the online infrastructure...fucking it up again will be a lethal blow to the system.

honestly dude, who actually carries a tablet around with them?

that's fucking weird.

Everyone I know carries a backpack around with them to and from work, and has tablets/laptops as well as gym gear and other stuff with them.

I literally don't know anyone who just shows up to work with just their wallet, keys, and phone.

THAT would be fucking weird to me.

By the way, anybody else skipping sun and moon on 3DS because we MIGHT get it on the switch?... Im on the edge, dont know if I should get it on 3DS or not...
Doubt Gamefreak would ever do ports, they actually may even release a sequel/third version of SM on the 3DS next year too like they did with the DS while they wait for the install base of the Switch to grow

I think it's a smart move that this isn't a, "traditional", home console. IMO I don't think they would've fared well with it being a regular console against Sony and Microsoft who are already established this generation. But we have to wait and see if they price it right.

A handheld with a dock is pretty much exactly what I want. If it has all of Nintendo's software as well as Pokemon mainline games and the great games that generally come out for 3DS, as well as some major 3rd party AAA games that run on great scalable engines? Sign me right the fuck up.

I agree with you. I'm looking forward to it. But there are a LOT of people, Nintendo fans included, who do not give a shit about portability. If that's the case for someone this hardware is probably pretty disappointing and won't cut it.

I don't see the Mass market who doesn't care about portability being interested.

I don't understand comparing game viewers to console viewers. Of course a console will get more views.

I still don't know if this will be a hit or a bust. If the price is too high then I think it will lose momentum and end up in the 20-30 million range. Then it might get outsold by RDR2.

As long as it's on par with XB1/PS4, which all signs point to it being, I think those people will still be satisfied. I don't think anyone will be grabbing this system expecting it to offer the next big leap in graphics/power anyways. Hell, Nintendo hasn't even targeted that audience in... how long now?

The tablet market where people desperately search for a decent gaming experience but end up never opening the games they download or only playing them once and removing them is probably where they'll find their market, as well as with core gamers that like flexibility and ease of use, as well as capable handheld hardware. I look at this as a superpowered replacement for my 3DS, that happens to have visuals near to what I get on my Xbox, or better, depending on who's rumor or technical breakdown you listen to, that will get 100% of Nintendo's software output. I... don't know how that can possibly fail unless it's $500.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
It has to sell at least 75 million to be more succesfull than 3ds and wiiu combined...

I'm not sure the Switch can do that.

Their will be more devices released based on Switch - this is just the first configuration we are getting. Expect a smaller portable as well as a Apple TV like home only solution in the future.

So yeah im thinking 2018 for a smaller 3DS type Switch device.

What?

Where have we seen that it's that powerful? Grabbing that from a few seconds of an NBA title that might not even be from NX is quite a leap in logic.

That pretty much sounds like me. And well, almost everyone in the office.

I brought an umbrella today though, it's pissing down.

They really lose me at the detachable controllers. I just do not see the appeal.

I'm still interested in the console, but that idea just makes little sense to me.

I think there most value will be in that they double as motion controllers. Otherwise, yeah they are kinda pointless, if there is the pro controller.

Rumors, that have largely panned out, claim it has a more powerful CPU than XB1 and PS4, but a slightly less powerful GPU, but it's a completely different architecture from the APU in the other consoles, so it really remains to be seen. Tegra's no slouch, and I think most believe it to be a custom chip based on their latest architecture. In fact that's what Nvidia said themselves, for all intents and purposes.

Get the 3DS. I don't see it coming to the Switch at all, and if it did it would not be for awhile. They would have to completely re-do menu stuff to account for the lack of a second screen.

How can they be pointless when they allow you to play the console while docked lol. Pro controller will not come with the console.

Okay. First off, I'm beyond excited that the portable hybrid console rumour turned out to be true. Getting to play /all/ of Nintendo's games on just one system is beyond amazing.

But I have to admit that I'm honestly pretty underwhelmed by the look/design of the system itself. There are so many tablets and phones out there that look so much classier/premium-looking than the Switch. And even as a docked home console, the PS4 and XB1S have a much nicer design.

At the end of the day, I'm still gging to be buying the Switch but I guess I was just hoping for something a bit nicer looking. /:

If I didn't have my backpack with me or at least in my car, accessible if needed, I would feel woefully unprepared for life. Everything from the multitool, to the tablet, and the 3DS and lens wipes for my glasses.

I'd be surprised if the Joy-Con Grip is packed in.
I'd be surprised at the opposite. It's something that seems to have no function except give less range of motion to the detached joy-cons; how much are people willing to spend for that?

What if that skyrim footage was just the switches's ability to be used as a device for streaming games from your PC, Or other console and wasn't running on the switch at all?
Then I'll eat a 3DS card.

Yeah now do a version without the screen for cheaper. Like 100$ less atleast sounds about right.
Ditching the screen and battery is not going to save a hundred bucks. Hell, you can buy a whole tablet with a higher resolution than that for a hundred bucks.

But why should a customer buy a Switch for home console gaming if there are alternatives with better graphics for the same price?

All the arguments for picking the Switch fall down to "but Nintendo games".
If they're a person who doesn't care about any of the things unique to Switch, the reason they should buy it is that they are an idiot.

With so many configuration of control they are trying to put in the Switch, I can't believe they take out the most important of all (and one that Nintendo started with in the market) : THE TOUCH SCREEN.

I really love the DS era with the innovation they brought to touch screen gaming. Now they back out of that. Same with motion control.
The video didn't show them, but I'm not really worried about them yet. The same rumors that have been right on pretty much everything else say they're in, so I'll believe that too. Nintendo would have to be superdumb to willingly ditch the control advances that pushed them to their biggest successes ever in DS and Wii.

Looks like Breath of the Wild might be the final Nintendo disc-based title.
It seems when it comes to game discs Nintendo gets to be last in, first out.
Still no pressure sensitive triggers huh?

Goes back to this probably.

The GC controller had amazing analogue triggers and the Wii Classic Controller had pretty good ones. After this nonsense, the Wii Classic Controller Pro removed them.
Remember in recent years they produced new GameCube controllers for use on Smash Wii U, analog shoulders intact.

If this does replace the 3DS (which it seems like it will, if not immediately then soon) I really hope the price isn't too crazy. Part of the appeal of handhelds is playing your own game but connecting with other people. Animal Crossing and Pokemon are great for this. It'll be tougher to justify two people in a relationship or two kids in the same family each owning a $400 hybrid so they can each train Pokemon at the same time.

This is the most sleek system you'll ever get from them Nintendo. The fact it doesn't look like a fisher price toy is a miracle. I mean you can't expect it to look like a iPhone or some shit especially with the hardware it's packing.

It looks more premium and sleek than the xbox and PS4.

I'm starting to think there is third peace to the switch. something there not showing? There has to be more then just the specs and games left to show. This seems to basic of a hybrid for Nintendo.

I'll agree that the Xbox One S (Just the S) has really great design. The Xbox One, and the PS4, and all iterations of the PS4 are completely uninspired and uninteresting to look at. Not one element of the industrial design do I agree with.

This actually looks incredibly sleek, makes good use of varying textures and finishes to both minimize grease and fingerprint marking, as well as to make the separation lines clear so you don't yank on the wrong end or wrong area. It's not gonna be as thin as a typical tablet, because what it has under the hood is going to generate more heat. It also needs to be thick enough to be comfortable to hold. hold an iPad like a 3DS for an extended period of time... It's not comfortable and will strain your grip pretty badly.

Only way its gonna be as powerful as xbox one and ps4 at this point is if it has a much high clock speed on the dock to match current gen specs.. Or it gets an SCD n the near future.

Nah, I'm getting it on 3DS. I'll play it, love it, and then probably skip any Switch version that comes out.

Seriously.

The complaints about how it looks are totally baffling.

I mean, the system goes up against the awfulness that is PS4Pro and the mediocre PS4 slim and X1 slim.

I wanna see the receipts about sleeker looking tablets in the 250 bucks range too.

So happy that I'll be able to have two separate controller pieces again, that comfort was the best thing about the Wii remote and nunchuk. And no wire this time as well!

Looks very cool. The Ad had me shouting at clouds at times though.

WTF - you lousy dog owner put the console down and throw a ball for your damn dog

WTF - friends wave you over to join them to socialise - leave damn thing at home

WTF - you stop playing actual real basketball to play simulated basketball on small screens (outside) - get back on the damn court

I know they're just conveying the "keep playing" aspect but some of those use cases rustled my jimmies as poor social choices.

Still looks very cool though. Want to see how screen really looks though.

Presumably this will come with some sort of cover or screen protector. I can see it getting scratched and battered if it's lugged around in a bag on a regular basis. There nothing to protect the sticks or screen which is one advantage of the clam shell design that they've now abandoned.

ok, i can see that but whose really going to buy this? It's one thing that pokemon go became a fad sensation for a time there but to shell out 200 or 300 plus dollars is going to be a tough one. Especially since your smart phone now costs you full price (paid per month). Whose gonna do a smart phone AND this device?

Nintendo has a very dedicated base but beyond that i just don't see it reaching the crowd that the wii did. Without that casual crowd it's going to be the same outcome as the wiiu and gamecube.

the point is they're increasing awareness of their products over platforms people casually play or through other means of entertainment not usually related to video games. if 500 million people downloaded pokemon go, and 1% of those people are buying hardware to play a fuller experience they might not have been previously aware of, they're increasing their sales by five million.

and people already do smartphones and ps4 and smartphones and xbox one and smartphones and 3ds. it's not really an issue.
