Final Fantasy XV is now just one month away. Place your bets: will it be good?

Latest previews have been positive so I think it'll do great. I'm expecting around 84-90 on OpenCritic.

I'm betting the critical response will be in the mid 70s range and the most hyped up individuals here will love it at the beginning but after the hype has died down, will be disappointed by it. I think it looks pretty bad and uninteresting and I think it will remain like that. Fuck yeah if I'm wrong.

I didn't like 13 from the initial reveal, and never played it.

14 seemed similar to 11 from the demo I played.

15 looks good overall. I'll wait a few months for opinions to settle before I buy. I think it will be good.

It'll be the bees knees until about 1, 1.5 years later when people will start questioning if it was as good as they thought, we'll have a "RTTP: FFXV - WTF Is this shit?". That's my bet :p

I expect a game I'll consider shit to mediocre myself, and it will get mediocre to decent reviews, 70 to 80.

Wat. 50 would be mediocre, 60 is above average and 70 is decent. Good old 7-10 scale strikes again.

It will likely be pretty decent. Looking at footage, the combat doesn't really appeal to me, but others seem to like it.

I see a megacritic of >85.

Sales in the West will be abysmal.

You really don't need to worry about that. Just in the first third of the game (the country Lucis) you will find:
-desert
-beaches
-canyons
-grass lands
-conifer forests
-broadleaf forests
-swampland
-river valleys
-mountainous regions

Other confirmed regions later in the game are a lagoon, a jungle and a snowy landscape.

Also just to add, beyond the environments there are also settlements, a few cities(each being very different), caves/dungeons/mine shafts, and military bases.

That said each area seems to be quite large so you may be spending a lot of time in each region if you really like to dig in to side quests, but going based on previews, the main quest seems to take you through these areas at a typical JRPG's pace.

I haven't been closely following the development of this game and I haven't touched any of the demos.

I would describe myself as cautiously optimistic about this game but y'all are giving me hope that this game won't turn out like XIII did (serious low point for me).

IMO the general consensus will be that it's a better game than XIII. The mood will be one of pleasant surprise that it ended up being a good game after its historic clusterfuck of development.

It still might score lower than XIII, however. This will mainly be due to people simply having higher standards for cinematic story-driven games nowadays, having less tolerance for anime-style shit writing, and a sense of fatigue with open-world games.

And like usual, every negative review will be picked apart by fanboys and blamed on the reviewer having the wrong expectations, or not appreciating Japanese games, or wishing it were more like the previous games, or any number of other bullshit reasons.

For me there's zero doubt, but then, I've always had faith. From the get-go, even when it was still Versus, it looked like a winner. No doubt it changed a LOT during the years, but especially when it was re-revealed it felt like game with a mission: to make Final Fantasy relevant again. This one seems like the first game in the series since arguably VII to actually be able to make an impact on the public at large. I'm not necessarily saying it's gonna be a huge hit like the bigger ones in the series, but for me, I'm sure this is gonna be at, or at least near, the top of my favorite FF's list. Everything jst feels right: the look, the characters, the music. I think they're gonna hit it out of the park.

Not condescending at all to those people who may have issues with the game. Also "anime style shit writing", oh boy.

In general though, i think it will be impossible for this game to score lower than FF13. That has an 83 on meta. This game is not doing below an 83.

Well yeah if it's good, but if not it will definitely have no shield that would protect it from lower scores in a "too big to fail" style.

From what we've seen so far, which is a pretty decent amount, i think there's nothing in the base design of the game that would give it below an 83 meta in totality. the combat looks pretty good, graphics nice, world design great, mission structure...could get repetitive depending on how they do it. Characters seem ok...

Like unless the game just flies off the rails in the second half of the game, i can't see most reviewers giving mixed scores

Will it get good reviews?
Will it please the fans?
Will it live up to the hype?
Where will it fall in the rankings of FF games?

I can see it getting reviews that vary from good to great, maybe some above those. Honestly I see it sitting between 80-95. Yes, that's a huge range but I'm taking into account all the different factors that lead up to this, and the optimistic nature of the new previews are what make me think it may potentially be above 90. Cynically, I can see it be an 80-ish game because of different tastes.

Naw, it won't please the fans, nothing ever does, expectations are just too crazy to please every fan. Like all mainline games it will have vocal defenders and naysayers. Some fans will love it, others won't, simple as that.

I don't think anything really lives up to the hype expectation management is key. Personally, I'm "hyped" but not HYPED! My interest in Vs XIII still outweighs FFXV but I've come to accept it for what it is. So it's a different kind of hype.

Like all ranking of FF games, varies from person to person. Based on previous history with the series, such as first FF game played and varying artistic/stylistic interests. Each game is different enough post VI that it's understandable why someone doesn't want to play IX (though it's their loss really). Or why someone who loved the SNES FF games hated how much things changed with VII.

XIII reviewed particularly well, therefore I will continue paying critics' assessments of JRPGs no mind.

I'm nowhere near as invested in FF as I once was, so while it would be nice if XV were good, it makes no difference to me if it isn't (my expectations are very low either way).

During last gen? I would have agreed with this, but in today's landscape with critics being a bit harsher? I think there's a good chance it will do below 80. I've watched every piece of media released for this game and it just looks boring and uninteresting to me.

Mind explaining why you feel that way?

I think it will get plenty of good will for being a cut above 13's trilogy by default

I think it will overall be fine, but I'm imagining some of the complaints will be:

- Grating VO
- Nonsense story
- Boring enemy design that fails to capitalize on the combat system
- Filler side quests
- Bad dialogue

You seem to have accidentally hit the 9 key instead of 5

I think the hype will carry it to decent reviews.

Personally, I've lost track of the game but I doubt they've overhauled the gameplay mechanics -- and from the demos I think the game plays like absolute garbage. One of the worst feeling action games I've ever touched and certainly the worst mainline Final Fantasy in terms of mechanics. XV is the first FF I'm skipping.

...well, because of that and also because the cast sucks.

I am confident it will be a good game. I've seen enough to know it will at least be enjoyable.
For all the flack that XIII gets, at the end of the day it was a decent game. I think XV will be a bit better.

I think not only will it be good, but that it will possibly be the best game this year, and then some. My confidence this only continues to increase as we see more of it.

I predict an 84.

There will be a couple reviewers who complain about the development cycle. Which is stupid, but what can ya do.

If you have an issue with something I said then make a counter argument. Don't just pretend to get all offended and storm off.

I think it'll be great, but then the only reason I'm onboard is for the Japanese take on the road trip. Because that is just... new to me.

I originally thought that it wouldn't be all too good and that the reviews would be in the high 70's, but since I saw the previews and since that goddamn omen trailer ramped up my hype, I want to believe it will be great. It will get something around an 85 on metacritic and I'm thinking the fan reception will be very divisive. I think I may enjoy it more than I orinigally thought. I was worried it would fall somewhere at the bottom with XIII and X, but now I'm more confident it will be better than those.

Now I just have a couple days to decide whether or not to cancel my ultimate edition pre-order.

- better then XIII
- overrated reviews from the magazines based on its legacy and hype, as with a lot of modern AAA games
- 85
- a few months from now or say future it will be put in the middle of the pack when it comes to rating the whole franchise

Fool me once. FFXIII was praised initially and still is to a certain extent. However in on a good day in my opinion it's just an average game and that's about all I'm expecting here. Long development cycles a good game do not make.

Unless of course this all tanks in the latter half so far none of this has been mentioned by reviewers in fact most have enjoyed the story so far only negative is they hope it picks up a bit more in later chapters.

Side quests have gotten praise as well. Enemy design as well for staying true to the series

I hope so with all my heart... ;) been on media blackout, only thing I watched was the Omen trailer last week so I havent really seen anything except the demo area of course and that goblin dungeon and the mech type fight...I have erased that Summon fight from E3 from my mind lol...

So please be gud...I think it will be.

It's so, so hard to breach 90 these days, and I think that FFXV will challenge that obstacle, but I'm unsure it will overcome it.

Regardless, I'm confident that it will be highly praised, but not universally. Based on what I've seen and played, I think I will enjoy it immensely, though, and that's all that matters.
