One would think the most interested in promoting 4K tvs are Samsung and LG. Sony is a little player in TV market.I think there can be some legitimate criticism with regards to how Sony is marketing this to non-4k TV prospective buyers. The problem is Sony as an organization wants the Pro to push 4K displays, but you don't want to promote them too hard as then you alienate the majority of the public who can't afford one (and the early stages of HDR do indeed ratchet up the buying complexity of a combined Pro+4K HDR TV purchase). So Sony is somewhat at odds here, it's kind of hard to avoid.
Ultimately though, the most sensible decision Sony has made with marketing the Pro is to keep the price under $400, and also to increase the storage to 1TB. The value proposition over the Slim (or the equivalent 1TB XboneS) makes it far simpler even if it's a little difficult to impart game-changing differences to owners of 1080p TV's. You're paying a very small premium for more future proofing.
I consider strange they dont mandate a 1080p mode with better graphics and performance.
Would be funnny MS did it with Scorpio.
