Gun Gun Pixies for PS Vita from Compile Heart/Shade

For what it's worth, Shade also worked on Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls.

Bullet Girls supports it and this is the same dev, so I'd say it's fairly likely.

Different publisher though - the developer is unlikely to have a say on whether the game gets added to the PS TV whitelist or not.

That's true. I think this game will probably be compatible though since most of Compile Heart's stuff is with the exception of the Genkai Tokki games, and those have a heavy touch focus (though Monster Monpiece's US version is compatible for some reason).

Teaser trailer is up. The normal-size girls seem to be college age (one of them has a stripper pole in her room), so at least they're not underage. Maybe they could actually localize it if it doesn't get too much lewder than this

Man, the premise already had me rolling but that trailer was something else.

Man... I clicked on this thread and said, oh, hey, compile heart.

Why did I click.

And now my Vita is judging me. Over there. Across the room with its smug Vita face.

I'm sure it will go much lewder

Language barrier will probably be low in a game like this though

Giiantess's are my thing. Please come to NA.

I wonder if it has much of a story. The mainline Neptunia games have tons of cutscenes but the side games (or atleast U) barely had any.

Considering the type of game it is, I would expect nothing more than the bare minimum in terms of actual story. The game's only intent will be to go after the crowd that's really into fanservice, which any meaningful story isn't going to appeal to that crowd as much as just making the game as lewd as possible through player interaction. Even from what little they have shown, it's clear this is not a game that they will expect a meaningful audience from, unlike the Neptunia series and a handful of standalone games.

I guess it depends on what you consider "meaningful story", but fanservice is always improved by story and characterization. That's why Senran Kagura is so successful

Oh wow, Shade was the UDG developer? Mad respect for them if so.

Yup, they were co-developer in the credits. I'm guessing the more methological puzzle/survival gameplay helped a lot, as did guidance from Spike Chunsoft themselves on some aspects of the game (puzzle design?)

Its a shame. A full story like a Neptunia for this type of game could be crazy good.

Well still might get it if it comes over if reviews are somewhat good.

some really good rpgs aren't coming to the west while compile heart pumps out these garbage games all time into our faces. the world is not fair.

Those kinds of CH games aren't coming west either.

Also what good (current) RPGs are we missing?

We did miss Metal Max 4 and Tri-Ace's Beyond the Labyrinth :p

In the case of Labyrinth no Kanata Konami was never going to bring it west but...

...Metal Max 4 was Kadokawa Games, and it's a shame NISA will probably never pick it up.

From one side I love the Compile part of Compile Heart. From other, is like... why they can't do "less weird" games?.

Everyone else makes less weird games.

Why can't we have one company that goes all out? You're not the only one that brought this up but I don't quite get it. There are obviously people that buy enough of the weird shit

I suspect people just feel down looking at the state of the Japanese game industry. Sure, Japan has always had weird games, and if there's a market for cheesy trash, so be it. It's just that there was a time when Japan was cranking out not just stuff like this, but masterpieces like Valkyrie Profile and the Suikoden series along with more experimental, mid budget fare like SaGa Frontier and Azure Dreams.

Japanese gaming these days is a little better; I wouldn't have expected to see stuff like Grand Kingdom coming out in the west in the PS360 era, but it's still far from the glory days,

I guess I just feel bitter when I see that the stuff that survived and even thrived in the HD era is thrash like Neptunia and Senran Kagura, rather than the kind of stuff that made me fall in love with video games in the first place

Well... its an original idea at least!

That said, maybe it will be fun and hironic... I don't know, the only "strange jap" game with these kind of sexual hints I played was "Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit", and besides that aspect, it was quite fun to play!

I wish more of these kind of games are available outside of japan... (not going to spend a lot of money just to import, and a second jap account on the VITA is a pain to use...)

Sure, but it's not like CH is responsible for that. They're the ones that survived because they adapted to a changing market, not the other way around. CH trying to make the next Suikoden (and failing financially) won't turn back time.

And even IF is trying to do somewhat more serious games like Black Rose Valkyrie.

Bon Appetit is the worst Senran Kagura game by quite a margin. You should play the mainline games! We're actually getitng a lot of games like this here, like Valkyrie Drive and Gal*Gun

Did you ever stop to think for a second that the reason why Compile Heart is still able to do whatever it wants is due to actually producing things fans want? Where as those other companies that produced your so called masterpieces have been totally fucking up their IPs and ignoring the fanbase. That or turning other beloved IPs into mobile games that no one wanted.

The glory days are gone and never coming back. So better get used to it.

Other companies are attempting to go on more traditional formulas but at the same time too the domestic market itself is a bit of a mess as you can see with the Media Create numbers.

Generally the companies that are surviving are the ones who know generally what their fans want and keep trying to bring out titles that will keep them interested. Its the same reason why Visual Novel producing companies are still around even though its quite the niche genre.

These games (to generalise) were around when times were good, remember how the 3DS had stuff from D3 Publisher in this vein at the start of its life, and the first Senran Kagura games? That was an era before the generation-on-generation decline, when the industry was adapting from the mega successes of DS/PSP to the next generation.

The difference is, because these sorts of titles are razor focused on an audience that will buy them (they are basically "games industry games" but more targeted at a smaller audience), they've been sustainable to keep making.

In 2011's rough transition from last gen to this gen, beginning with 3DS not capturing the DS audience in its entirety and Vita not capturing PSP's in its entirety, we've lost all the investment that was previously sustainable to justify but no longer isn't.

Big publishers invested heavily in 3DS in 2010-2012 but few came back to greenlight similar titles or sequels. 3DS and Vita development costs and expectations were also higher to the point where a publisher can't just greenlight a crazy left-field project and not worry about it having to break even. The rise of mobile gaming also means for every few million yen spent on a 3DS/Vita game, a publisher could potentially be earning more on mobile, or using its workforce to make mobile games.

That might work out if the thriving mobile market consisted of the same kinds of experimental and traditional games people loved on the PS2 or DS, but as a market for games-as-a-service type games with a heavy focus on skinner box techniques and mechanics. The sort of game design we've come to know and love is slowly dying out - even the sustainable Compile Heart stuff like Neptunia relies more on skinner box mechanics to be compelling than the typical JRPG.

This is what I don't get and I see argued every time a game like this gets revealed. The two things are unrelated. Compile Heart have never made; nor will never make something like Suikoden or Valkyrie Profile. They simply adapted to the market and release stuff that's selling to a small but dedicated enough niche to make them profitable.

You need to go blow off steam in the 'Square Enix announces x mobile game' or 'Konami announces x Pachinko' threads, not here.

Basically this. Whether it's a good thing or not is another thing entirely -- arguably the most fondly remembered titles come from developers making games we never even knew we wanted yet.

Not to say you think it's a good thing, but it's a point worth mentioning in a wider context.

Yeah, it's not like I'm blaming CH for the state that Japanese gaming is in. I'm just sharing why I think people have a pretty emotional reaction whenever they see a new Neptunia game or whatever; it's a fairly constant reminder that not are the games we love dead, but the sole survivor is largely the antithesis of what many of us loved about Japanese gaming.

For the record, I'm not trashing moe and fanservice games from on high without ever experiencing them. I own ever combat focused Senran Kagura game, some in both English and Japanese, a bunch of Neptunias and even some games that are banned on GAF. I'd still throw all those away in a hot second for another Suikoden or Valkyrie Profile though.

...are you even responding to my post, or did you already have a preplanned screed that you just needed to get off your chest? I'm well aware of the realities of the Japanese market and don't need your condescension to explain it to me. Or does me explaining why I have an emotional reaction to CH somehow offend your precious sensibilities?

In case you didn't know, there's a new SaGa game called SaGa Scarlet Grace. It's for Vita and it's coming out next month in Japan. Hopefully Square Enix will bring it over to the West.
