I'm legitimately depressed. I, like, many others was so confident that Hillary would win. I don't want to follow politics right now and I'm taking a fucking political science class.

I'm about to go down this bottle of Jack.

On my 9th beer bro, nothing can faze me now.

I voted for the most qualified candidate. The rest of my country did not. I feel ashamed and depressed. The media and all the forecasting was totally and completely wrong, as a result we are now the laughing stock of the world.

Well tbf the US Gaffers have spent recent times being all smug a fuck laughing at the UK over Brexit etc

You can at least now join us in realising it's all going to shit.

When it comes down to it people will always vote (rightly or wrongly) in what they perceive as their own self interest.

I would love to say the same, but I fucking hated when Republicans said that about Obama so to do so for Trump would be hypocritical.

Obama didn't call my Latino brothers rapists, mocked people with disabilities, or say that I shouldn't be in this country as a Muslim.

Neither did bush or McCain or Romney.

This man isn't my president.

I'm pissed too...but this attitude is exactly what emboldened peeps in the first place. You guys attacked folks for their hatred...WITH hatred. You only made them feel even stronger.

learn from this and approach things differently.
I'm not going to apologize for calling bigots exactly what they are. Their is no "delicate touch" for the reprehensible bullshit the Trump campaign has stood for. This is a giant shit in the bed of human decency.

just can't believe

This dude is going to be literally written into history books and taught to children

The fuck

Most Americans disagree with you. Democracy isn't getting the results you want.

It's not just about results.

Republicans came out and said their plan was to make Obama fail. Their plan succeeded. Looking at Obamacare as a first, almost impossible step in the face of deliberate obstructionism, is too complicated. It's so simple to say "get rid of it and then ???". They didn't even let Obama appoint a supreme court justice, so we went with a depleted court. And that worked too. They get to appoint an extra justice now. Trump said if he was in charge his political opponent would be in jail. And it worked; it got his supporters frothing and chanting with excitement. Every single anti-democratic, despotic, racist, sexist action they took, worked. Because as awful as those things are... nobody can say they aren't effective.

Even if Trump lost, his campaign and the last 8 years of Republicans would be a horrible blow for democracy. Now that he won it's a crippling blow.

So we're stuck with the ultimate status quo of trickle down economics, along with having an unhinged commander in chief who vows to start wars over insulting gestures, build a great wall, and denies the ability of judges to do their job if they aren't white. On top of which, he is a known con artist who literally says that it is our fault for letting him get away with it. He never had to release his tax returns or reveal his business ties with Russia. No need. Voting for him gives him a blank check to fuck the country up as much as he wants, because he already said he'll do whatever he can get away with.

Because he's reading a speech that he 100% did not write or probably have anything to do with. Constantly looking back and forth at teleprompters, and interjecting with his own commentary are dead giveaways.

True.

At least he got a new speechwriter...but fuck...can't believe this shit.

This ladies and gentlemen is the start of the Trump era. The era in which it will become socially acceptable to defend racists and bigots. The era where the "racists feelings" are viewed more important than the rights of a minority. 2016

Not a racist or a bigot. Not a Trump supporter either. But still my feelings don't matter. Good empathy.

Their candidate represents fucking evil. He WILL DESTROY my rights.

Fuck him and yes. Fuck ANYBODY who voted for him.

I'm done.

Good. You need to sleep it off.

You can hate Trump all you want. But there's no reason to hate those who voted for him. And there's zero reason to attack them for that.

Only way he can even sniff half of the shit he's talking about (while cutting taxes) is by printing trillions of dollars that we don't have.

Wonder how the GOP Congress is gonna like that

1. Run a whole campain on demagogy and divisiveness.
2. Talk vaguely about inclusion and working together in victory speech.
3. "Oh my god! So presidential! Wow!"

America proved to me tonight that is not great, but fucking dumb.

My allegiance to this country, my respect for it is now just completely fucking non-existential.

Nobody tell me to respect or call my country great or whatever. Not ever again. That's all bullshit as of today.

Well, I can't say that I saw this coming. I was telling my friends that this would be the biggest popular vote margin we have seen in decades in favor of Clinton. Jesus fucking christ.

The vitriol here is stunning, but I understand the shock of what just happened and the fear and uncertainty it necessarily carries. I just hope that we can stop the cycle of polarization that has been occurring for the last few years and find a way to get along. I fear that it will be a tough road ahead, especially due to the racism and sexism that Trump has espoused.

This is unexpected and understandably distressing. Stay safe, stay sane, and try to be kind to one another.
