Honestly, I will probably never get the Switch pro controller.

Split-controller gaming like the dude on the plane in the trailer does is just comfort heaven in any situation whatsoever and the only downside to the JoyCons is the D-Pad (which I absolutely have no problem with as long as the buttons are not squishy like on the DS3).

So on launch day I will just get the console itself, all the games that interest me and maybe a case if there is already one available.

So 250€ for the base model and 299€ for premium? So with the controller and one game it's gonna be 400€.

LauraK says that 200 british money thing...

EDIT.
To clarify, GAME to price at £199.99.

I think she verified with at least couple of her sources, previous Tweets were saying something like that. So I'd say it may be actually kind of close. And it is kind of close what most of the people were thinking, right?

EDIT2.

Link to LPVG with additional infromation:
http://letsplayvideogames.com/2016/11/report-uk-retailer-game-to-price-nintendo-switch-from-199-99/

Don't want to paste too much here, their site could use more visitors...

"It is important to note this is not a Nintendo set RRP, as in the UK manufacturers are not allowed to set RRP prices for consoles. However, it is safe to assume this gives us a solid indication of the price the system will sell at nationwide.

We have also learned that a separate SKU featuring more internal storage and a packed in game is planned to sell at £249.99."

New news, new topic? Can't make one, I am too small for that kind of undertaking.

Laura is KILLING IT with her reporting! Good news overall if it holds. I am happy to buy the Premium SKU but it seems like a single SKU would be so much easier on everyone. It will be the Purple GameCube / Basic WiiU all over again.

$300 including a game (Laura, tell us what you are hearing) sounds great to me.

I predicted a while back $249 for a barebones version, and $299 with a game and extra storage.

EDIT: Well, new question, will answer that one soon.

Just give me party chat and a more convenient messaging and notification system and I will be completely satisfied.

Edit: on top of a snappier OS in general, although I wouldn't call that a "feature"

Oh and menu screen jingles like the Wii's channel screens or the 3DS' menu. The Wii U menu was kind of sterile compared to those.

I'd like to see the Switch's OS take some cues from the Vita's. Not sure if this counts but the ability to continue on right exactly where you left when the thing runs out of battery mid-game would be amazing.

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
I'm currently in a life situation that would be ideal for the Switch. I am between cities right now, working on the weekend in Portland and the during the week in Seattle. I'm spending 7 hours on the bus every week shuttling back and forth. The plan is to move to Portland fully by the end of the year, but there are no hard guarantees yet.

I want to get a PS4, but it wouldn't make sense with my current setup, as theres no living room or TV for a console in the temp place in Portland. But the switch would be absolutely perfect. I could play it in both locations and on the bus with ease. Just thinking about spending my weekly commute playing the new Zelda has me salivating.

I constantly see people on the bus playing tablet games. If that could be a full console experience like Call of Duty or Skyrim, that could be an absolutely huge deal. Or traveling with a buddy and playing Mario Kart the whole way.

I just keep hearing people say the Switch wont be a big deal, but for people in my situation it sounds like an absolute dream product. Especially if it's priced right, I could see a ton of people getting it. The main caveat is that it probably needs a touch screen so it can have some games familiar to tablet users.

What feature(s) would you like to see in Nintendo Switch's Operating System??
The ability to bypass a main menu interface and go directly to the cartridge that's in the system slot.

For example, if i have Breath of the Wild in the card slot, I'd like it to where I can power the system on while pressing-down 'A' so that I don't have to wait for the interface to load and then pick the game.

The biggest thing for me would be the overall speed; Switch NEEDS to to be quick. Outside of that, I would love the ability to browse the store and queue up downloads while having a game suspended in the background. Xbox One and PS4 separate "games" and "apps" and allow you to have at least one of each open/suspended at a time. It would be lovely to play a game like Zelda and be able to hop out and do something else without completely quitting the game.

I would also love to find out that Miitomo is the way Switch handles friends and interactions. Imagine how neat it would be to find out that we've been preparing our profiles for the launch of Switch this whole time!

I like the basic design of the Wii U menu, so I don't mind if that sticks around. Just bring around the custom theme feature from the 3DS and that would be amazing.

Quicker transition between Home Menu, eShop, Miiverse, Download History, and all the home menu features. Right now it takes too long on loading (specially eShop).

Multiple NNIDs linked to one system like Wii U was (and not 3DS which was only one NNID) and combined with Region-free so I can have American, European and Japanese accounts linked in one Wii U to go digital on imports.

3DS ACTIVITY LOG. Wii U one was a huge step backwards.

Wii U had those in the boot screens, kind of.

It's not the same. It's the one thing Twilight Princess Wii has over the HD port, that epic channel screen jingle.

If Switch has something similar, my choice between BotW U or Switch will have been made so much easier.

Low-mid priority

-Bootup sequence similar to the GameCube or even the DS.
-Expanded friendlist functionality. Also the addition of gifting games again.
-Miis that function similarly to Miitomo (in that they have customizable outfits and speak with the vocaloid software used in Tomodachi Life and Miitomo.
-Quick messaging features with friends (which would also be used alongside the mii vocaloid stuff).

Mid-High priority

-Badges and themes! (Maybe this time buying certain games or tapping amiibo can give you free badges and themes. Also being able to use MyNintendo coins on plays in the Badge Arcade.)
-A damn good internet browser (WiiU's is too good, it's a crime).
-Greatly more detailed Play Log. I know this is probably a minimal feature for most, but the 3DS Play Log was such an underrated feature for me. This time I'd add more detailed stats, photos taken in games, and also the ability to share your Play Log with other people.

General feeling from the reliable doctor_cupcakes on Twitter is that the 3D Mario will be the big game on day 1 and Zelda will be a bit later.

Goes along with what Emily said a couple of weeks back.

an achievement system of some sort, think they should also expand it into a rewards program. refining what they currently have.

Buying games in store or online would give you points, and then completing all achievements in a game would give you the same amount of points. points could be used to purchase games, store credits, system themes, discounts, and enter into sweepstakes.

Microsoft has achievements, Sony has trophies, Steam has achievements, and i feel like Nintendo can come up with their own system.

I also would like to be able to switch users easily and set up different region accounts.

System UI customization would also be nice, more than just themes. Like adjust text size, folders. i would also sacrifice some of these if it meant that the OS was quick and snappy.

background apps would be nice but i would restrict it to messaging and system menu if it meant keeping things quick and snappy.

I honestly enjoy 3D Marios more than Zelda so this is super perfect to me! I can see Zelda being their big holiday 2017 flagship title along with perhaps, that rumored Smash Bros 4 port, along with Bayonetta and Cloud amiibo. Booom!! A year with a 3D Mario and a home console Zelda... 2017 already better than the whole Wii U lifespan lmao.

System-wide party features, voice chat, virtual console output akin to early Wii days, and a full-fledged account system. Share button functionalities with integration into Mii-verse would be a plus as well.

Metadata on eShop purchases so that it can intuitively bucket games by genre, publisher, series and (in the case of VC) platform. All that needs to be done is add metadata tags to eShop purchases.

Desired Switch OS Features

1. Speed - Though not really a feature, the general clunkiness and snail's pace of the Wii U was a huge turn off for me. When I need to go into the settings menu, it shouldn't take its own long loading screen.
2. Friends and Messaging - just make it useable. Easy to access and manage. Adding friends shouldn't be a deterring process.
3. Play Log - I enjoy this on Nintendo consoles and find it funny other systems don't employ similar tools.
4. Themes - Especially since the console can function as a handheld, I want to organize it and make it uniquely my system.
5. Trophies/Achievements - I like them. I want them. I don't care how dumb people think they are.
6. Accounts - Of course we should have a no fuss account system, but I would also like multiple accounts to be registered to a device. If a friend and I are playing Smash locally, I would hope he could log into his account on my system and potentially earn those trophies I mentioned earlier.
7. Battery saving mode like on 3DS

That's all I've got for now.

Speed is always a good.

Good battery saver/sleep mode.

I don't know if this is OS per se, but I really want PS4's video recording/sharing feature. They dabbled in video replays with Mario Kart 8 but I think every game can benefit from something like that- just look at all the videos and gifs we have of BotW. I hate doing something absurdly ridiculous in a game only to realize that no one else saw it.

Something like streetpass, if not standard streetpass. That type of functionality in full console games could wind up being very unique.

Here's one. The ability to use the badges you've already won on your 3DS. They are tied to your NNID after all.

The Wii U would notify you and tell you that vac friend is online, but you would have to open the 'app' to go into Friend list/Miiverse to look at their profile.

That is long.

Make the social aspect accessible and non intrusive. Miiverse has the potential to be big, especially if they introduce a verified age filter, allowing users to say incredibly offensive things like bum or poo without getting banned.

The ability to bypass a main menu interface and go directly to the cartridge that's in the system slot.

For example, if i have Breath of the Wild in the card slot, I'd like it to where I can power the system on while pressing-down 'A' so that I don't have to wait for the interface to load and then pick the game.
So essentially bring back WiiUs quick start menu?

I would like more social options. Facebook, twitter integartion would be great, and an easier way to talk with my online friends.

Faster OS, loading straight into game.

I'd like it compatible with the Wii U Pro controller. It and the Switch Pro seem to have the same number of buttons and I'm not enthusiastic about paying £40 for an extra controller I shouldn't need. Probably won't be getting the Switch at least until Christmas, but still.

EDIT: And if it does have a pointer, it'd be great to have it compatible with Wiimotes as well. While the Wii U suffered from requiring too many different kinds of controllers, that needn't be an issue if the Switch is compatible with previous controllers as optional alternatives.

Hi Tom.

You mean like the quick menu on Wii U so you can jump straight to one of the last few games you played without having to wait for the system to fully boot to the menu first?

What feature(s) would you like to see in Nintendo Switch's Operating System??

Speed. I want it to be fast. Between apps, games and Miiverse or system settings I want the shortest possible loading times. And I want Pikmin doing the "work" on the UI. A shame we only see them during system transfers. Everybody knows it is not GPU and CPU working in Nintendo hardware, it is the Pikmin!

  • Easy access to friend list, to see what they are playing from anywhere. Easy menu to talk/chat with them or join if they are in the same game
  • Speed of the UI, the eshop etc
  • Trophy/achievement : maybe do something like a miitomo room where you can see throphies. Not just a boring page where you see all the achievements
  • The unified account system where you can link all your games (switch + VC) into your account

The quick menu on Wii U is pretty fast but I guess we wanted to say a way to boot the game directly like it was on GC, 64 etc. You turn on your switch and you play directly your game without any menu poping up
