Why are people comparing this to PS3 slim? That was a cheaper PS3. This is a more expensive PS4. Not really comparable.

For 1080p owners is this really an upgrade at all? More downgrade imo and I'm not impressed.

Games running worse and the increased sharpness from downsampling is quite frankly, not even worth it imo. This is purely questionable due to peoples differing perception, tv size and how close they sit to their screen imo.

I feel like Sony has scammed the 1080p owners and this console is purely about 4k and HDR, regardless of what people think of the downsampling - my own fault, I know.

Question is, do Sony really give a fuck? Maybe time will tell but I aint feeling too confident a the moment that they do. Look at the low key announcement, the low key launch, the conflicting info on Pro Standards etc.

This looks more like a console for VR players and to get in the same ballpark as Scorpio for when it launches. Maybe then we'll see more improvements but will 1080p owners really be catered for? The only chance I see this happening is because all Microsofts games are gonna be scaled according to each hardware and potentially forcing Developers to do a bit more work...perhaps...

At the end of the day, it's cost me an extra £200 (£350 - £150 sale ps4) to play some games running worse than my son's original ps4.

Now I just need another £2k so I can get the KS8000 @ 65" so I can really appreciate my extra £200 investment.

You have been scamed, you have nowhere to run , Just put more money into it as you go along.
:p

Also games running worse on Pro , Great to be confirmed by you.

Good lord, some of these reactions.. PS4 Pro isn't expected to sell base PS4 launch numbers, nor is it supposed to.

It doesn't matter if it's considered good or not.The console market is dead in Japan and stays dead. A midcycle refresh won't change that fact.

I don't follow sales numbers much compared to some here but from my little understanding of the Japanese market this seems pretty good no? To compare the sales to previous gens and expect like for like seems to not take their shrinking market and the current landscape into consideration.

Maybe I'm wrong and this is shit but it does feel that some people on gaf are running a narrative that unless the Pro comes out swinging and matches a new consols sales it's a bomb when this is a unique situation where a slim and an upgraded version are released in close proximity and are both being sold for a profit.

Like I said I'm no expert (and we know gaf has lots of those ;)) but maybe I just have reasonable expectations compared to some. I mean we have some people here who complain about the ps4's sales yet its still doing great comparatively and has introduced extra sources of revenue compared to previous gens.

i think the pro will start selling much better once the FF15 limited edition ps4 is sold out and everything is back to normal.

I do not see the point of buying a regular PS4 if you can have the pro as a new potential customer. like, it makes zero logic unless that PS4 slim is limited edition.

Oh, how the expectations have fallen.
Any reasons to have high expectations of the console market in Japan now after looking at the sales during the last 4-5 years?

Arent there like 3 games so far that has a lower framerate in certain areas? You say "more downgrade imo", making it sound like most of the games are downgrades from the base PS4 model, unless you've only played those 3 games that has some framerate issues. And what is the scam? What did Sony promise that arent delivered on?

The developement of the PS4 Pro was most likely started before Scorpio was even thought of by the way, so the Scorpio has no impact on this.

As a 1080P projector owner i couldn't be more happy with the Pro.
I think you're being a complete dramaqueen and not that well informed.

Not wanting to pay 100$ (or the equivalent in yens) for minor visual upgrades that mostly applies in western games isn't a logic reason ?

The lead PS4 system in Japan will be the PS4 Slim, zero doubt about it.

Seems fair, if you look at the home console sales in Japan for the past 3-4 years or so. Remember, this is not a new platform launch, it's a premium product, that is more expensive than the new Slim PS4 and has a somewhat limited appeal for those that down't own 4k sets (yes, there are 1080p improvements too but those are not the main focus I think).

The question is, will it continue on to sell some 10k-20k per week or fall down into WiiU level sales?

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
It certainly fared better than what I was expecting (around UK numbers), not a bad result for PS4 Pro in Japan. Sure, we'll have to see how sales will trend in the next few weeks, and I fear they will slow down rather quickly. On this subject: do we have any idea of what's the state of PS4 Pro shipments in Japan, not just by Amazon?

Scam? lol. this post is comical AF.

anyhow. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. You can get a pro, and later get a new tv and benefit from the console already being something you own.

Anyhow. Vote with your wallet.

A bit late for me though as I've already bought it lol!

I really love this kind of post.
Watch Dogs drops 4 frames in a stress test --> console is shit
Battlefield improves 15-20fps and resoltution --> silence

Again, subjective totally to tv size, distance and perception of a sharper screen. I suppose the quality of your screen and settings/calibration as well as 'personal preference' to say a softer or sharper image are paramount to this.

Dropping frames still happens and potentially can be seen no matter what subjective preference as stated above.

But I get your point. Regardless, as a 1080p owner I do not see the benefit and for an extra £200, it appears a poor investment - at least for now...

However, I've made plenty poor and good investments in my time, so I can take the rough with the smooth. It doesn't stop me voicing my opinion though - who knows, the more people that feel the same, maybe they'll be more chance 'all expectations' will be met by 'for all'.

edit:
@ vivek lol nice one!

@ always I also use a 1080p Projector so I've no idea what on earth you're going on about. Again, if you read my posts, my point stands that I do not think the downsampling is worth the extra money for worse performing games. End of. Nothing to do with being a dramaqueen. I was under no illusions of a ps4 pro making my ps4 games on far higher levels of beauty - I did not however, expect games to run worse. Playing Skyrim is a fucking joke, regardless of downsampling...on my 1080p projector...

lmao, so true.

Can't wait for the "But the VITA / 3DS upgrades sold XXX at launch" posts.

People still read those negative comments? Seriously just let them be, those are decent numbers for a pricey model, nobody expects this to outsell Slim anywhere and who does seriously Wth lol

Slim will be 249€ this holiday, packed with a game or 2, Pro can't compete.

Price is key here, not power.

Context, because you know. Context.

From the perspective of Sony’s expectation, Sony hopes to ship 20m PS4s and Pros this fiscal year, by end of March. Since they’ve shipped 17.7m PS4s last fiscal year and PS4 sales globally has maintained its QoQ performance this fiscal year, we’re looking, rationally, 18-18.5m PS4s sold this fiscal year. Flat or minor growth contributed by price drop.

That means expectations for Pro are to sell around 1.5-2 million units in 5 months. When we break it down to average monthly sales, that is 300k-400k Pros per month. That means that Sony is looking at the Pro as a buoyant of around additional 30% sales on top of their regular PS4 sales trending.

Where the Pro is right now, with 100k across UK & Japan…
That means 100k Pros at launch from the install base of approximately… 7 million PS4s in US/UK.
7 million is roughly 15% of the PS4 install base right now, and if we extrapolate PS4 Pro week 1 sales equally, that means week 1 of Pro is around 650k Pros sold in the first week globally..

Given Black Friday and stock replenishment of Pro in other parts of the world that only have extremely limited stock, I would suggest to guess that Pro will sell at least one million by the end of the month.

Sales will naturally slow down after launch heights and BF madness, but I think it should still be relatively easy for Pro to sell another 1 million units over 4 months of December, January, February and March, especially if Feb/March starts introducing compelling Pro bundles with games like Horizon.

Is Pro doing AWESOME? Of course not.
Is Pro “seemingly” doing as per what Sony seems to think it’ll do? Seems that way looking at initial reaction.

Honestly ? no its not logical . at least IMO. People pay 50$ and 100$ to get 1T or 2T hard disks. ( xbox one / PS4 )

The slim is 500Gb. for 300$. assuming its 1 T, its going to be 350$.

So basically you are only paying 50$ but you are getting much more value. heck. even at 100$. the pro is worth that much difference. its a future proof PS4 system for the upcoming games that will take advantage of the hardware.

All those games out right now while they look better than the slim, they are rushed for the release window. Give it some more time and the difference will be more obvious.

Of course to each has his own, but If I do not own a ps4, and I am in for a new playstation console, I will be honestly stupid to not pay extra 50$ /100$ (depends on what you stand in terms of HDD size price difference ) for a much better console.

Its also not applied for western games. the biggest game this holiday from the Japanese market will support a friggin 60 fps full HD . that alone for me is worth the 100$ considering I am big JRPG fan

as for your last comment about the lead. I am going to assume the pro will have the lead ( if the console isn't sold out )

its going to be fun watching the numbers early next year when both sku's are available.

For those wondering this is essentially 2x the number the PS4 by itself performed last week for Pro numbers. Take that what you will

Was there a point where there was a noticeable decline for a few weeks that could be put down to 'people waiting for the Pro'? I'm curious to what extent this could be postponed sales from earlier in the year.

A bit late for me though as I've already bought it lol!

Should have informed yourself beter. This is exactly what the Pro is and always was.

On a projector screen that is 100inch or more, jaggies have always been a bit more apparent. So any downscaling will help a lot in creating a cleaner image. And it has spectacular results in a lot of games now already and that list will keep on growing.
FPS wise, there are some games with small dips, but nothing really to worry about. All patchable stuff right now.

Yes, a bit of a drama queen in my perception. Don't buy a Pro if you don't know what to expect and if you don't have a problem with jaggies. Worse performing games is a HUGE dramatic hyperbole of what is actually happening. It's just a couple of patches now. It's the beginning. You'll be fine with your Pro and things will only get better.

Is there anything in Japan lower than Xbox One lifetime ?
Sperm counts near Fukushima. Too soon?

In all seriousness though I wouldn't be surprised if the Pro sees fairly sustained figures for a while. A lot of people seem to be holding out for more content that benefits from the Pro more consistently. Plus people may look to upgrade down the line as their original consoles die/get broken or when they acquire a 4k TV.

I'm happy with my special Batman edition PS4 for the foreseeable future, and am saving my pocket money for a Switch (or a One S if the Switch is a dud).

Pro numbers are fine since there's nothing to really compare them too. There hasn't been a home console mid-gen refresh released for more than the base system in any recent history. I suppose the closest you can get to that is when MS released the XBOX 360 Elite (but I don't exactly remember that setting the world on fire sales-wise either).

This is sort of uncharted territory.

Wonder if games like FF15, which according to reports seems to take great advantage of the Pro's HDR capabilities(among others benefits), will perhaps boost it's sales.

The Pro is more expensive in Japan than other countries.
Its at $400 in the US right? In Japan its at 48,567 yen which is around $443 US with the current exchange rate.
Plus, I don't think there are gamers who really can tell the difference or care about the difference between the Pro and OG PS4. Because the gaming market is being dominated by mobile phones and people also prefer handhelds.
So compared to other countries, not many gamers are interested in graphics.
Thats how my impression is from living here.

Also, my friend finally bought a PS4 recently and I told him about the Pro and its differences,
but he chose a slim.
Other friends either have a OG PS4 and are not interested in the Pro or do not own a PS4 and if they were to purchase one, they'll purchase the slim.
2 PSN Japanese friends which I do not know IRL upgraded to the Pro though.

Also, the Pro is sold out on Amazon JP, Sofmap, Bic Camera and some other retailers.
So not sure if Sony only shipped a small amount, but there are some people who are interested in the Pro.

Not at all because it's bundled with the slim model.

Eh, that could indeed cut some sales. Still, it's one of those things... if Sony has demos of the game running in 4K up until/during the launch, they may sway some costumers. Though again, limited appeal due to needing a 4K display in the first place.
