The Wii U launched with around 22 games.

But only 3-4 of them were exclusives, and they were not "heavy" like a new 3D Mario, a new version of one of the most succesful games of the generation* and a MarioRpg spin-off.

EDIT: *Ok, WiiU had Mass Effect 3 and Arkham City, but you know it's not the same :p

True, but I can't really imagine a console launch with a new main Zelda and a new main Mario together. Obviously, as a gamer, I would like even Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Kart 9 too at launch :p

Isn't that supposedly similar to how Code Name: S.T.E.A.M plays?
I think so. I've never played it either. I watch gameplay of X-Com and not sure how I feel about that gameplay lol.

I know that's a more mature title and this Mario RPG will be more lighthearted and probably look more fun gameplay wise.

A Mario RPG? Yay.

Nintendo intends to pitch the project to consumers as a Mario RPG project in collaboration with Ubisoft, in spite of Ubisoft doing most of the work on development.

Awwee. Well I liked South Park so I hope Ubisoft can deliver on another good RPG even though they don't grab my attention like other companies do in this genre.

Liam Robertson is saying that his sources are calling it a strategy RPG more akin to Fire Emblem.

Squeee.

I hope this is difficult. I love turn based strategy games and the Rabbids are amusing. I can imagine the bs hijinks in such a crossover.

I would pay a lot of money to play Spec Ops: Captain Toad's Koopaland Crusade

It's actually a prequel that explains why Bowser keeps attacking the Mushroom Kingdom.

Did you know that Bowser's castle used to be in a veritable paradise before Captain Toad turned the water into lava?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Actually, if this is really a strategy RPG, aren't the chances it uses UbiArt higher?

Some french site said they heard about a yoshi and rabbids crossover about a month ago for Switch. They also heard about a possible Splinter cell for it to so look out for that one. But the same site also said that there is no dock for switch for tv but a portable dongle...

Liam said the game is more like X-Com being a tactical RPG. I've never played X-Com so I'm not sure how it plays.

Confused, sorry - did Liam said SRPG like FE or did he say Tactical RPG like XCOM? Aren't the two different?

Probably not if it looks like XCOM, right? Isn't UbiSoft 2D only?

He specifically mentioned Fire Emblem

Edit: He said FE first, but then backtracked and said more like XCOM

This being a strategy RPG makes sense really. They'll want this to be distinct from the M&L games and SRPG is a genre that Mario hasn't been a part of.

I hate Rabbids though, so I'll wait to see how pervasive they are before I think about getting hyped.

Mr Nostrebor‏ @Doctor_Cupcakes
@Wolfgang63000 @MrJonFaust @E3NintendoBot I haven't played it. I just know it's a strategy RPG with turn-based combat.

Basically, it's a SRPG (according to him), but I don't know if he knows exactly what kind of SRPG other than it being turn based. He uses Fire Emblem as an example and later he said a tactical SRPG like X-Com.

Third version of sun/moon coming to switch later 2017

Oh, that's the big Eurogamer news people were saying was coming today. I see. Thank you both!

He specifically mentioned Fire Emblem

Thanks. Didn't he mention both, though? I've never played either but was under the impression the two played very differently.

Thank you. Is FE considered a turn based SRPG? If so, I wonder how XCOM comes in.

I'm really interested in how exactly does a mushroom turn water into lava.

ITs like Paper Mario Sticker Star if now all the enemies were the same exact thing too. Toads and Rabbids. Some good toilet/plumber jokes I bet.

🎉

The rumor talks about many new characters so...
if we believe the rumor, we should believe all parts of it, I suppose.

Mario has featured in the best games of every generation for thirty years. Rabbids, meanwhile, are a shovelware franchise. I can't see this ending well.

Rabbids were party games; some of them were REALLY fun, if judged as, you know...party games? Plus, this clearly is a partnership supervisioned by Nintendo, for a Mario RPG: yes, I can totally see Nintendo trashing on their most important IP working with the most loyal of the Western software houses for the launch of their (so far) unique dedicated hw on the market.

Not even Mario&Sonic is treated as trash, despite it being "a party game"

They're very different but I can see what he means. With X-Com you have a view from "behind", and on Fire Emblem it's a top-view. I think the former suits more a home console game than the latter. Maybe you can change seamlessly between the two "views".

Peach sent him to assess the military capabilities of the Koopas, and after determining they had immense military strength, Toad infiltrated a Bullet Bill artillery yard and aimed them at the local mountain, releasing the magma within.

Ubisoft is probably the last big Western third party I'd want to collab with Nintendo... though I'm not surprised as they seem pretty close.

I do look at this and think "Anything is possible", which is good. Going forward, if this is successful, I think Nintendo is going to be way more willing to lend their characters to all sorts of third parties like this. And it makes a ton of sense, assuming the games retain that certain level of polish and quality that people come to expect from Nintendo.

I just hope the plan isn't "Flood the Switch with Mario and Zelda titles, including a bunch from third parties". Let an indie team make a new 2D Metroid. Let Playtonic make a 3D DK platformer. Pitch something to EA, Rockstar and Bethesda.

Interesting times.

Well isn't that purple rabbit you steals your shit in the Mario & Luigi games ( I think he's Mario Wii U) a rabbid anyways?

Isn't that more like the speech of Metal Gear Solid : Shrooms Eater ?

Hopefully that rumor turns out to be false or that Nintendo still decides to launch it at launch and have Pokemon and Smash for holidays or something.

I seriously can't wait till fall lol thats another whole freaking year game was anounced in like 2014:/.

I will reserve further judgement until facts are revealed but I feel they are going to be fighting an uphill battle.

Regarding third party/first party collaborations: If this is what it takes, so be it but it better be interesting/worthwhile.

Well, I was trying to avoid spoilers, but he only did it after Toadette convinced him the Goombas were being oppressed by the Koopas, who was actually working to hide the previous botched military mission into the area.

That's why she/he also said "at least". I am sure there will be more at the January Direct... if there are any surprises left with all the leaks until now and the probably coming ones during the next 2 months. I guess there will be quite a bunch of games of games at launch and the launch window. AFAIR it was Emily Rogers who said something like that.

I can actually see this working provided the writing is in tune with the goofy style Nintendo's kept with for the Mario RPG titles. This needs the entire Mario cast though.
