So the issue with this are for those with 1080p only tv's and a PS4 Pro. In that they are only getting 1080p with no super sampling.
But for 4k tv owners it's an all around improvement on the base ps4? Improved IQ due to higher resolution and more stable framerate?
I don't think this would be a hard thing for them to fix. Just have the game run in 4k mode no matter what. Seems pretty simple to me.
Go into any Pro discussion thread and you will see shitposts like "the pro is a joke" on the front page.Who is blaming it on the software? People commenting on problems/concerns of the ps4 pro version of games doesnt mean they put the blame on the pro.
Also comparison with pc is always flawed because pc is a extremely wide range of hardware while pro is equally good or bad for everyone.
I think this summary doesn't adequately express the differences between versions. Shin-Ra's resolution numbers help, but since he didn't mention framerate that goes by the way. And you don't even mention what's improved on PC. A more accurate brief of what's said in the video is:Overall: PS4 better than XB1 but not perfect. Both platforms suffer FPS drops during opening mission cutscene and some battles, and XB1 has a lower resolution than PS4 throughout.
Modified idtech 5 was what they said before. It always seems to have performance issues when modified like with Evil Within.Honestly think he is wrong or misspoke. This is not idtech6... ckearly...
If you don't like the numbers, try this...Jesus all these numbers in the OP. I understand 1080p and 4K. Im a console gamer not a mathamagician. Times have changed.
wonder why they just didn't go with idtech6 with this game. after all the issues with 5....
I thought txaa is nvidia exclusive
Is there any comparison with ps4pro and a budget pc at the same resolution, and visual options?
DF made good comparisons last year with this kind of analysis, they are not doing this anymore.
Wow, didn't think it was possible to fuck up id Tech 6 enough to get it at the level it's at in Dishonored 2...
The PS4 pro version was downsampled when I had a 1080p TV so that's a benefit. Now tho I have 4K
Really sharp on 1080p tv. PS4 pro is the end of jaggies for 1080p owners.
Way to go! Here's a cookie. I've added some info here and there.I think this summary doesn't adequately express the differences between versions. Shin-Ra's resolution numbers help, but since he didn't mention framerate that goes by the way. And you don't even mention what's improved on PC. A more accurate brief of what's said in the video is:
Overall: Xbox One and PS4 both have dynamic resolution, but the highest res on Xbox One (which it often drops from) is still lower than the lowest res on PS4 (which it rarely drops to). Framerate on both machines struggles in opening cutscenes and in battle, with Xbox One consistently worse. PS4 Pro locks gameplay to 30fps (though it still dips in the first cutscene). On 4K displays it also runs in higher resolution, but there's a bug right now where downsampling to 1080p displays isn't working. PC is best, with better shadows and AO, plus improved textures in cutscenes. However, it is not well optimized and even elite GPUs fail to lock 60fps at Ultra settings.
I really doubt they don't, but they definitely will after the release of this video. How can we report the downsampling bug to the developers?
Do they know the issue?
2) OS option to output 4K regardless of what your TV is. Right now 1080p TVs can only pick 1080p, so in situations like Dishonored 2, they can't access the 1440p mode. If they could set the output to 4k, they'd get the 1440p mode and their TV would downscale. This would be a safety mode in case developers forget to downsample for 1080p TVs.
I really doubt they don't, but they definitely will after the release of this video.
You could tweet Harvey Smith about it..? Be nice!
Done!
Yes, I agree. Downsampling for this game works only if 4k is forced as output, and PRO is connected with a 1080p TV.
This is impossible, because 4k option is greyed in the PRO output video settings.
Developers ignored this thing.
Sony should add a supersampling option, because the Dishonored scenario could be a dangerous precedent.

It's not the hardware. Maybe Sony didn't give devs enough time for these early patches & we are still in the launch period but posts like "the pro is a joke" entirely misplace blame.
I agree with you on that, blaming the Pro for bad performance is like blaming the Pc for shitty ports.
Then again for every post saying Pro is shit or "all" Pro games are borked there are, literally, ten replies from sony faithfull disallowing the concerns and trying to hide the dirt under the rug.
Sweet. Keep us posted.
I linked the Digital Foundry video and this thread to him. There are new tweets from him but he didn't answer on this issue.
Not very encouraging, because he usually answers to everybody about game glitch or problems.
I could try with the Bethesda Support twitter account.. but I'm now a bit pessimistic.
No mention of the visual bugs I've seen on base PS4 and others on PS4 Pro too?
That white shimmering on textures - particularly noticeable on roof/walls and dark environments. Textures 'popping'/loading in from white when moving the camera around quickly. I'd take them being fixed over FPS at this stage.
f the engine really is based on id Tech, I wonder why Dishonored 2's performance is so much worse than DOOM's.
Modified idtech 5 was what they said before. It always seems to have performance issues when modified like with Evil Within.
What wasn't mentioned in the video, a little surprisingly given the Doom reference in the analysis, is that the Void engine in DH2 is based on id Tech 5 not the latest id Tech 6 which Doom was made with. It's been blamed for a number of the issues present here.
It's also funny because I have Dishonered 2 for PC and Pro, and am playing on the console because despite the patches on PC the better experience is on console for me at the moment. I have a high end system and the game isn't at an acceptable state right now on PC, yet people don't blame PC, they rightly blame the devs. Yet problems with a Pro port people want to point to the hardware as the problem. I'm playing Titanfall 2 on the Pro and it looks and plays amazingly, so it's a great indication of what the console is capable of.Go into any Pro discussion thread and you will see shitposts like "the pro is a joke" on the front page.

X1 version is pretty poor technically, but the art style manages to shine through. Still crazy it looks how it does, at a low resolution, and drops frames. Poorly optimized IMO.
Yeah it's a really shitty situation there for XBO owners performance wise, hopefully it'll be all fixed and patched up by the time it goes on sale.Wow. Very poor showing by the Xbox One. I know the hardware is lacking, but I feel a better performance should be possible. I'd really like to play the game, but not in this state.

OMG!
What a great video, kudos for that guy...very deep comparison between both systems, never thought a PC with that hardware is capable to run CoD IW with some better results than PS4Pro knowing that it's a bad pc port.
Supersampling bug aside, the performance is much more consistent on the Pro, just as thought - I don't understand why so many people were disputing that point.
Actually, PS4 Pro runs Infinite Warfare better at high resolution then his PC. Only if you restrict to 1080p is the Potato Masher Pro superior. What a great video, kudos for that guy...very deep comparison between both systems, never thought a PC with that hardware is capable to run CoD IW with some better results than PS4Pro knowing that it's a bad pc port.
