Switch charging time is 3 hours, non-removable battery

Official confirmation seeing as some people didn't believe the non-removable battery from the patent. (iirc that's where it originated.)

Also confirms there's no form of quick charging for those of you that were hoping that it had a USB-C Power Delivery port. (Although we still don't know if it has a Power Delivery port, still hasn't been specified as one then?)

Edit: To understand better about the battery charging, click the link to read this post from Thraktor: http://m.neogaf.com/showpost.php?p=228323268

I'm sure it is "removable" if you actually dissect the thing.
Much like 3DS, Vita, DS4 and such.

Edit: I'm sure it does void the warranty though.

I wonder what they would charge for this 'exchange.'

Probably $50 for labour and battery. Blech.

Is this non-removable like Dualshock 3 open the case non-removable? Or like have to unsolder and resolder a new one non-removable?

How does that work, 2.5 hours playtime and 3 hours recharge? Is that even possible?

The news just gets worse and worse...

At least on the Wii-U gamepad, we had the option to switch the battery for a longer lasting one!

I feel confident in saying that this is a console that is portable and not vice versa. IMO the Switch is the Wii U fully realized in a compact format. 3 hours to charge!

I guess USB-C will (hopefully) be common and cheap enough to always have one handy and near by but still.

I'm feeling that SoC nVidia offered is.. while very reasonable price wise, as for battery life it is simply not competitive at all.

4310 mAh????

BIG mistake Nintendo, my phone almost has that and has a screen that's a couple of inches less in size.

You're touting this as portable??

With its formfactor I think its gonna be build like any modern tablet, i.e. everything glued and soldered together.

Because a lithium battery has a very specific charge cycle. The first 20% of charging is done quite slowly (low current). The next 70% is done quickly (high current). Then the last 10% is slowish again. There are plenty of articles out there that explain this. Now there are newer battery tech/charge solutions that use higher current for faster charging (Samsung is one). But it looks like Nintendo elected to not use one of these or they could not fit this charge solution on the PCB.

Yes, if you play extremely demanding games on max settings.

But anyone who doesn't configure their console to save even a little battery life shouldn't complain.

Most people here are going to be playing what qualifies as 'extremely demanding games'. Even at lowest brightness that battery life is almost certainly going to closer to that 2.5 number than that 6.

I guess not being in phones for the past few years, nVidia never bothered with a quick charge competitor? 4070 mAh in a new Snapdragon charges in two hours. And the first fifty percent is quite fast. Weird situation here.

I'm sorry but this is absolutely ridiculous the tablet is huge they could easily squeeze more than a 4000mah battery in it

4310mah is actually normal for the screen size, if not higher than compared to the average phone with the same screen size and most phones with a similar screen size are 1080p

3 hour charging is pretty bad. Looks like i will have to wait for a handheld only revision.
Man, i would be fine with a DS style portable. 480p would be enough for me.

Soooo, it takes longer to charge than the time you can actually play it.....

They never tried to sell it as a portable replacement. In fact after the reveal trailer, they came out and outright said that it's a home console and shouldn't be looked at as a portable. You can take it out, but it's not the new DS, like some members want to believe.

I don't see how it couldn't have Quick Charge that's basically the whole point of USBC

Not exactly, there are variants of USB-C and the standard most people know are 15W = 5V * 3A

To get a form of quick charging, you'd need higher voltage which is what USB-C PD (Power Delivery) delivers.

Come on Nintendo there was no need for that nonsense.
