I would call it a downgrade if there wasn't parts of the game that were significantly improved. The landscapes look much better and some textures are sharper (not to mention better resolution and performance). So the lightning thing to me just feels like tweeking some settings to get the best performance where it matters.

Exactly, the lightining i didn't actually notice any changes until pointed out, while other changes felt much more clearer to me, from the textures to some stutters that the game had before. There's also some more details added like squirrels in trees at the start of the game, etc.

I need to see some retail build footage of shrines to really see if the lighting is good. We're going to be spending a lot of time in those, so I hope the lighting is appropriate.

No, I still need to finish TPHD, get a new monitor, new headphones, figure out where to buy the amiibo etc
I need February.

So with the lighting, are you all specifically talking about the starting chamber? Because that's the only noticeable change I have seen

To note: The version most people played during these events is not the retail version. Here's a video of the retail version on Switch, commented by Aonuma.

That's probably not retail it is the same version used at the other demos Ver. 12S, you can pretty easily see that at the end of the video in the bottom right corner of the start screen. If any version is retail, or near final, it's the one used by the Treehouse Live event which was 1.0.0 and likely also used for all the other footage we have of non Great Plateau gameplay.

I know Aonuma says it's retail but that could mean final retail content, not literal retail copy.

Why did the voice tell him to follow the marker on his Sheikah slate? I thought this game doesn't tell you where to go? Or is that just an initial thing?

I don't think it's an actual retail copy because that start menu is bullshit and a retail copy wouldn't have a timer that ends with "thanks for playing!"

I assume you're talking about the voice from the beginning of the game. I think that's just to unlock the first tower. Beyond that, I don't believe you're given any direct markers to follow on the map.

Yeah it's just an initial thing. The next objective that you get after that has no such marker.

As for whether the demo is retail. The Balancing looks like the retail version and it's got the animations from the final version of the game for Link. But beyond that, it could just be a later build released as a demo not necessarily the final build. The Treehouse demo on the other hand looks close to final.

That's just an initial thing for you to trigger the first Shiekah tower which is needed to progress (as it makes the others appear in the world too). The game will always give you a quest to progress the main story and you can see your side quests in your quest log. But from what we've seen you can ignore all of that but you're still going to need to trigger that first tower then beat the 4 nearby shrines to be able to get off the plateau and explore the entire world freely.

Is this screenshot new?

Yeah that's new. It's also Rad as Fuck. It's like Dark Souls and Zelda had a child and this Abomination was it. It seems you fight more of of them and the Steppe Talus in this game which I like. I find one off bosses while cool, could also help pacing a bit if they were used more often. What if you only fought El Gigante once in RE4? Would feel like a waste of a good enemy design.

Also I think this enemy has some of the AI of the regular enemies as the trailer depicted it with a weapon, meaning it can probably pick stuff up. Also I really like that it's got a necklace of weapons, presumably from the travelers that its killed.

I think it's absolutely awesome that Link's arsenal is visible on his person.

Its the little things that make it all that more immersive.

Well, not all of Link's Arsenal is visible. Just the ones that he's currently equipped with. So there's still hammer space.

But I do like that he can pick up any weapon dropped by his enemies, that's like something so many games don't do that (especially action-survival games like TLOU where enemies should have more ammo on them than they drop) it's really refreshing to see one that does.

Also does anyone get El gigante Vibes from this guy?

Okay I don't know what's new and old so...
Wii U
Switch

I wonder what this very unnatural cloud in the background is hiding. I feel like it's a part of the open world that they're really nailing, the fact that you can see so much of the world from any point. The flying bird, the giant thing on Death Mountain, the cloud that hides the summit of the hill... just looking around is filled with mysteries. Such a cool feeling.

Can get some real good direct comparisons outta this, despite different times of day here and there:

Some weird HUD differences, no forecast on the Wii U ones.

Maybe it's the compression making technical improvements less pronounced, but all things considered these are actually really close. It's that one horizon shot where the draw distance differences seem most pronounced.

That church one is weird though. The temple seems clearer on Wii U?

It's weird, the Switch ones are all 844px high (maybe it's 844p, not 900p?), but all blurrier, as if they've just been scaled up from 720.

Main difference in those first shots seems to be the sunrise actually illuminating all the water on Switch, and not at all on Wii U.

Older version, probably didn't have it back then.

Also, kinda hard to make a judgement because of the completely different lighting due to different time of day.

General texture work and trees seem improved.

Good call on the water, I am seeing some differences in the lighting there. The time of day is probably closest there and in the cliff pic.

And huh, that is weird. Makes me wonder if they were captured in handheld mode or something like that.

I've never been a zelda fan. I liked phantom hourglass a good bit but that's it. That fact has always made me a weird ninty fan. Then it occurred to me, I've really enjoyed zelda like games, a lot. Owlboy and Hyper Light Drifter are zelda as all get out and i love them. Botw looks incredible, but i'm having a weird revelation at the same time.

That first picture makes it look like there might be some significant improvements to draw distance/visibility in the Switch version. That'd be nice, since large draw distances are one of my biggest preferred graphical features. Also, the last picture makes it look like there might be slightly more grass in front of the Shrine in the Switch version? I wonder if the grass is randomly generated, though.

The fact that the HUD is different suggests that perhaps the Wii U version's screenshots were taken from a non-final build, but that would be odd.
