It's not exactly just "any" news though. He's stepping down from a rather important role in the film's development.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. You can't blame folks for being sceptical of the quality of future DCU films.
He's still writing and producing along with starring in it, not exiting the whole production. He's still the most important part in the films development. There's also a gulf between skepticism and conspiracy theory.

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
aquaman is going to be the first dceu movie to crack 85% RT

Somewhere Bobby Roberts is popping a top off a Natty Light and nodding "Told ya"

i just realized i havent seen that guy in ages

Why shouldn't I think this happened? Why shouldn't I believe the words that came straight from the man's mouth?

Because it would be incredibly naive to think that DC/Warner's constant woes, the BvS aftermath and the performance of Live By Night had nothing to do with this.

The DCCU Roller Coaster never disapoints

I'd bet that the performance of Live By Night probably factored into this. After that bombed hard (REAL HARD) for Affleck, I'm sure Warner was less confident in giving him the director's chair.

Told ya !

The thing that comes to mind was Chris Terrio talking up how he was reading Umberto Eco while writing Batman v Superman.

ehhhhh????

That's not a rumor or a leak though. That's PR. PR tends to be positive. I'm just wondering if there was ever a time where something leaked out from DCCU and was reported by the trades, and it was clearly positive and exciting. Feels like we haven't had that sort of vibe for a long time now.

Jeeeesus that just killed all the hype I had for it.

I'm imagining that Ben wants out of the DCCU but WB wont let him stop playing Batman. But they acquiesced on letting him out of the director's chair. Wasn't he talking about "if the script is good" recently?

wow, and I was right about my post half hour ago regarding my bad feeling for Batman movie.

The statement they gave as to why SOUNDS good, and like this is a good thing, but that's the thing with prepared statements....

Next best get would be Fincher, but it will never happen.

Sure seems like people are missing the point here. When he started and joined this venture he was gung ho but then after spending what the last two years working with these people he just wants the paycheck and not the headache of working with these people and if he is stepping down as director he clearly got meddled with so he throws hands up in air and just takes paycheck as fake producer and then focus on acting role.

At least he'll still be Batman, I guess.

How many directors have stepped down from doing DCU movies now? Three/four?
