Nintendo's Corporate Management Policy Briefing | Feb. 1, 10:00 AM JST

From: https://twitter.com/mochi_wsj/status/826599055438471169

- 17% of Sun & Moon players purchased Pokemon handheld titles for first time
Not sure how they figured that out, but if that really applies across the 13 Million sold, that's amazing.

apparently based on activity log, so 17% is for 1st pokemon game on 3ds played lol

Is the Q&A going on right now then? That's the best part, I hope the investor questions are even dumber/more entertaining than usual.

I think so

Mr. Takahashi. Edit: whoa wait, huh? I have no idea what that is saying

There's a slide showing FE: Awakening sell through at around 1,9M WW and Fates at around 1,6M. Somehow I thought Fates was much closer to Awakening.

Splatoon 2 in particular will offer voice chat, a
much-requested feature from our overseas fans,
using smart-devices and the ability to bring eight
Nintendo Switch systems together for eight-person
local multiplayer

Fuck DeNA. We wouldn't have this shit if Iwata was still alive.

Any news if they will really increase production of the Switch to meet demand?? :'( I still haven't gotten a preorder yet, y'know :'(

Q3 (Holiday) Software sales for 3DS daaaamn.

Pokemon Sun and Moon was ridiculous. Well deserved too
I can't wait for the meltdowns when they announce a new Pokemon game only on 3DS. Rumors be damned because I can only seeing GF seeing the $300 price of Switch and laughing at releasing Pokemon on it.

If it is Switch exclusive, then it is but I can't see it at all.

Some initially laughed at it when it was announced for the 3DS, but then that was prior to learning about more 2017 titles. Still can't see the next titles continuing on the 3DS unless it's a cross-release.

Not for March

Nintendo said:
We are continuously producing in earnest, and there are no changes to our plans to ship two million hardware units worldwide by the end of March 2017. Pre-order sales have also begun across the globe. We have heard that many retailers have already closed pre-orders and have allocated remaining inventory for sale on launch day. This pre-order momentum is reassuring proof that the core gamer demographic understands the uniqueness of the Nintendo Switch and continues to support us. We are preparing our supply system to ensure that we will be able to make continued shipments after launch as well.

Splatoon 1 had zero voice chat

the app is just giving every game the chance to have voice chat, unlike WiiU/3DS where a lot of games didnt have it.

Like I have been saying, I beileve a game can have voice chat without the app, but it will be up to the developer.

Wow thread is dead. Wheres the usual hype for these meetings? We could've had an investor ask the most important question in "WHERE IN THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THE ACTIVITY LOG???" but no hype killed all important news. You people are anti hype. :(

Yeah with a title like the Nintendo's Corporate Management Policy Briefing I don't understand why everyone isn't losing their minds.

There hasn't been anything interesting out of the last several from what I recall.

If they build it in at the system level then all games a can get it also, but on the actual console.

"The Fire Emblem series is a franchise that is supported enthusiastically by fans in their 20s and 30s in particular."
Interesting...

Finished reading the slides, other than the 1.5 million sell through for NES Mini Classic there wasn't much else.

Oh that's right, the establishment of Nintendo Sale Co. LTD

Finally, I would like to cover our sales company that
is planned to start operations in Japan on April 3. In August 2016, we announced that we would acquire one of the largest distributors in Japan handling Nintendo products, JESNET Co. Ltd., as a subsidiary, and that we would accept an assignment of business from AJIOKA Co., Ltd. The purpose of the newly-established company is to provide an integrated system from the development through supply of our products, allowing for rapid decision-
making and an improvement in sales service. It will operate under the name Nintendo Sale Co., Ltd. The company overview is presented here.

They talked about HD Rumble, too bad they didn't mention who they were involved with for the hardware of the HD Rumble.

So they're not really unifying development with Switch and they'll still have two different kind of studios (one for 3DS games and other for Switch games). Not sure if they can maintain this for too long and avoid droughts... Didn't work great with 3DS/Wii U years.

Maybe they're saying this just like the "third pillar" DS thing just in case something goes wrong... If Switch is a success, they'll drop 3DS quickly and if not they'll keep supporting the 3DS until they release a new handheld or a new home console...

So Nintendo's software plan about the Switch is less about having a strong launch from day 1 but making sure there's a steady flow of games.

Yo-Kai Watch is at 700K in Europe and still tracking ahead of the Japanese release. Not bad.

Awakening had stupidly good legs. Hopefully Heroes gives Fates a boost so that it can match Awakening. And of course Echoes.

Active user volume for Miitomo increased since the November update, so that's positive for engagement I suppose.

Yeah that seem pretty clearly to be the case. Just hedging their bets in case Switch struggles. They're clearly not focused on 3DS since it's hard to even find one to buy (at least in the US) and there aren't any major games announced.

Typical third-pillar talk.

And that will be true only for this calendar year / next fiscal year. We don't know what will happen in 2018.

the numbers for fates actually decreased, at least for japan numbers. probably they decide to change the way the count to sales (single game purchase vs path dlc) I assume

Which honestly i prefer since the droughts on wii u from a first party perspective were really really bad.

Yeah when you add up all the first party titles in 2017 it's a huge improvement from the Wii U and even 3DS, but they're much more spread out so the launch still feels underwhelming.

Nice to know they've Okayed 20 more third party games within the last 3 weeks though. Imagine if they can add 20 titles every 3 weeks for the lifetime of the console!

I'm surprised we didn't get a Switch forecast for next year, and very interested in seeing the Q&A once translated.

Still doubling down on voice chat through a phone app huh? Lol....you aren't getting my money Nintendo. This is beyond stupid. It should be an ALSO choice, not The ONLY choice.

When we last got an update it looked like the shipped numbers included the extra paths, but the sold numbers with a graph didn't. That was confusing. As for Japan numbers, these new numbers are approximations, so I wouldn't look into that too much.

It's interesting that they seem to almost directly be talking to gaming enthusiasts with this line from the briefing (page 19):
Tatsumi Kimishima said:
Here are the announced first-party titles that will follow the system launch, releasing through 2017 in Japan. Some of those who have seen this lineup have expressed the opinion that the launch lineup is weak.

Our thinking in arranging the 2017 software lineup is that it is important to continue to provide new titles regularly without long gaps. This encourages consumers to continue actively playing the system, maintains buzz, and spurs continued sales momentum for Nintendo Switch.

For that reason, we will be releasing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, which is making its debut on the Nintendo Switch during the first half of 2017, and Splatoon 2, which attracted consumers' attention most during the hands-on events in Japan, in summer 2017. We believe that these titles exemplify the concept of the Nintendo Switch, which is to be able to play anywhere with anyone and at any time, and will expand and invigorate competition between players.

Splatoon 2 in particular will offer voice chat, a much-requested feature from our overseas fans, using smart-devices and the ability to bring eight Nintendo Switch systems together for eight-person local multiplayer. In this way, we are working to create titles and environments to invigorate the competitive gaming scene so that a wider demographic of customers can enjoy, talk about, and continue playing the Nintendo Switch.

Looks like the Q&A is over. Mochizuki didn't really tweet any news from it and said there was nothing new being said.

I dunno. if they bother to put ~1.4m for awakening & ~1.1m for fates (worldwide), why they keep both at ~500k for japan numbers? :p
