9 months later, Street Fighter V has finally shipped (incl digital) 100K more copies

Wasn't Capcom hoping this would be an evergreen title where they keep shipping updates and (hopefully) it keeps selling? 100k in 9 months must be so disappointing for them.

Legitimately maybe the worst legs I've ever seen on a large scale "AAA" game. That launch was disastrous.

Especially when comparing them to say NeatherRealm's current output

I'd like to know the stats for the DLC sales. That seems like a more reliable income stream compared to retail sales now that it's been a year since release.

Not surprised the sales are that bad. There's a reason why it could be found for $15 for several months now. Ship complete games damn it.

lol that's atrocious

where did they go so wrong?

Only 100k copies in such a large time period for a franchise this big is insanely disappointing.

They were clearly comically overshipped at launch. I suspect they actually moved more like 500,000 units that were just sitting on shelves because no one wanted it until they fire sold them at tiny prices.

We consider million sellers bad now?
For a lot of games, even 3 million is pretty questionable!

Super disappointing. The game will need a big revival marketing push at some point to give the sales a jolt.

Also, first time MvC will outsell its SF brother in the same generation?

I mean they can't be large. A few hundred thousand probably.

Enough that it seems to still be worth them making them, but I doubt its a substantial revenue source

For a game like Street Fighter? Absolutely. And not just from us, from Capcom themselves. Its way under projections.

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
How about the dlc/microtransaction revenue?
I've heard somewhere that PS4 version also could cheat to get dlc/microtransaction via PC, is that true?

gave away the keys to the kingdom.

Well, strictly speaking it could be (and probably is) a bit higher/lower as the number is updated only every 100k, but even 199,999 extra sales over nine months across two large platforms would be a rather poor showing for a mainline entry in a reasonably popular IP.

Dude, man. It's been nearly a year, and it's SFV, and Capcom sinks a lot of marketing money into this. All sales have been frontloaded and it's not even close to the 2 million they wanted back in MARCH.

Yes, it's bad.

Its only sold 1.5 to date? That's horrible, I hope atleast they have a 1/3 season pass attach rate to make up for it.

I love SF but SF5 was a big let down for me, I'll pick it up again once all the season two characters are out. For know though there are too many other good fighters out or coming out soon.

I feel like there was no hype for this game. Everything was leaked, the initial trailer was garbage. They had terrible marketing material, and then they botched their launch with no content.

I feel like Street Fighter is the best fighter mechanically, but goddamn does Mortal Kombat absolutely shit on it in literally every other category.

I absolutely love sf5, but capcom has noone to blame but themselves.

Impressively bad.

Resurrecting a licence with so much quality only to kill it again after a few years. Sad!

This isn't really surprising. They lost the casual crowd so they're primarily focusing on esports and overpriced DLC to keep the game alive.

I am guessing most of the recent sales came from the latest huge psn discount (including me). It was 19.79 usd.

If you wanted to know how big the competitive audience is, there you have it.

Indeed. I've been preaching it for a while but if you want to make a large scale fighter and be successful in the current market you basically have two "smart" options imo.

1. Go all in. Lots of modes, lots of characters, single player content, tons of unlockables, etc. This is what you are seeing NeatherRealm (and from what we've heard Marvel vs Capcom Infinite) are doing. This is if you want to go for full retail price.

2. Use a F2P or a cheaper smaller scale product. Some examples would be say KI or Skullgirls.

You can't launch a fighting game in the current market for $60 with barebones modes and a focus on the competitive community. Its simply not a large enough market.

To the topic, sad to see this happen to a once amazing series but Capcom did it to themselves. Man, they even had that Sony help. They even promoted the hell out of this game. They even gave a great amount of characters new looks after looking the same for over 2 decades.

Geez that's rough.

Really hope they can turn it around. This game needs to add in modes from previous entries and have a relaunch with most, if not all, of the season characters by the end of the year. Similar to how KI has their releases.

I've bought multiple copies of the game physically and digitally, as well as all the season passed and DLC to show my support but that will only go so far. I'd hate for street fighter to be in the dark ages again.

A "Super" edition (with S1/S2 and "Super" expansion pack char bundle included + free system upgrades for everyone else) is inevitable. They need a soft relaunch after MvCI hits.

SF5 is a type of game that is supposed to have long legs because of positive word of mouth, tournament scene hype, and such. If it did the very same number right now but with 200k at launch, it would probably be bigger shock for Capcom at first, but it would be less alarming overall, because while that would suggest that people probably don't want more Street Fighter or the marketing didn't reach them, what we have here suggests people bought SF5 and generally did not like it (perhaps reselling PS4 discs to minority who did).

Reasonable expectations can't be that much higher for a fighting game. SF at it's best was never in the same league as Resident Evil, for another Capcom example.

Taking into account the different versions and releases, Street Fighter IV is approximated to have done just under 10 million

And that's why it was $10 at Amazon. They bought WAY too many copies and couldn't get rid of them fast enough.

Are you really expecting SF2 on the Switch to even reach one million sales?

And that's at 40 bucks too right? Lol. I am surprised at the low number of sales given the fact I can't get seem to get a fgc going or attend a tournament in my town that isn't strictly SFV or Smash Bros. Competitively, SFV is at the top as far as popularity goes.

So what would make it spike sales? The 'story mode' didn't do it, I can't imagine a character doing it and by the time they actually figure it out, no one will care anymore.
